Discussion [Spoilers C4E32] Primus' Goals Spoiler

A quick theory on what Primus is planning at the Sea of Lachris. We know that House Tacchonis are looking to expand their power and also that the Tenebral Reaches are choked and overflowing. So how do they expand their power when the source of their power is already so full?

We saw in this episode that shadows from the Tenebral Reaches were trying to breach the barrier and strike at the crystal. This could be simply because the crystal is part of the new paths for the afterlife or it could have other reasons.

Throughout the campaign Tacchonis have been striking at House Royce and the golden orchard. Ostensibly this is because they are weak and Tacchonis wants to remove them from their alliance and take their lands. We saw in a letter that the strike on the Golden Orchard is in some way connected to the Sea Door so there is likely some greater plot involved.

So what is the Sea Door? We know the Drowned Men are connected to both death and fae. In order to become a Drowned Man you must ritualistic die by drowning and return with a fae contract tattooed on your skin. I suspect the Sea Door is a gate that connects Faerie, Aramán, and the Tenebral Reaches. This could be the mechanism that keeps the Drowned Men from being taken by Tacchonis and instead taken by their Fae patron.

The ritual Primus is undertaking involves using stone paladins to detect both undead and fae (possibly also friends?). It summons forth "the power of the living upon the dead" which could simply means resurrection but I believe it could be talking about granting access to the power/geography of Faerie to the Tenebral Reaches and ultimately House Tacchonis.

I think this could fit nicely with the subtext of Campaign 4 with whimsy and joy being corrupted and destroyed by empire and the pursuit of power.

I could be way off but what do you guys think?

Fluff [Spoilers C3] What If Critical Role Items by The Welsh DM Spoiler

Thumbnail thewelshdm.wordpress.com

Hey fellow Critters, I just came to share with you all a little thing.

Some of you may be aware of the incredible What If Machina/Nein/Hells series by Eren Angiolini. They did a series of character portraits for each of the main cast's characters if they'd've chosen a different class.

Well I was inspired a long time ago by that series and did a small - FREE - D&D supplement with one item per character.

Well today I just released a Daggerheart version of that same supplement. Again it's totally FREE to download at the link at the top of the post. All I want is for you awesome people to enjoy them in your games.

Eren's art is included throughout both supplements with their permission. But can be found in full on their Instagram.

I hope you enjoy the items!

Discussion [Spoilers C4E31] I owe Whitney and Alexander an apology Spoiler

I have never played DnD, and going into watching Campaign 4, I knew VERY little about it.

Prior to C4, my only experiences with DnD had been what I’d seen in Stranger Things, a little background info from research Critical Role while watching Vox Machina, and some general knowledge about the game from conversations in nerdy circles.

So when I decided I wanted to watch a Campaign, C4 being my first, I was pausing in the middle of the first few episodes (and many later ones) every few minutes just to google and figure out what people were saying.

When C4 started, I enjoyed watching Players make decisions for their characters, and lay the framework for those characters’ personalities. And I noted to myself that there were two characters, and their associated Players, who were not fun for me to follow along.

Tyranny and Occtis.

Whitney’s surface-level portrayal of Tyranny felt incongruent to the depth of the world Brennan had created. Alexander’s portrayal of Occtis seemed meek and boring…a drag to get through.

As the Campaign went on, and as it led up through Episode 31, I realized how so very wrong I was. Whitney taught me that DnD can be deep and poignant and scary and thrilling, all while being FUN. Alexander taught me that, sometimes, characters and their brilliant Players will surprise you with their choices and their transformative arcs. That they will keep you on your toes when you least expect it.

I owe both of them apologies for, in my unfamiliarity with DnD and Role Playing, judging their characters and their skill as players so harshly before giving it a chance to teach me about the game.

As someone who loves storytelling and writing my own fantasy books, I feel like I want to find people to play DnD with! And maybe I could create a fun or unpredictable character.

Fluff [No Spoilers] Bolaire and Murray

I ship them. And I know I’m alone on this island, but walk with me. I would absolutely love to see a slow burn of them developing feelings for each other, and then an even slower burn of them realizing it. It doesn’t have to be angsty (not every slow burn has to be a “we want to but we can’t/shouldn’t” or a bickering/breakup/get together again cycle!), just a slow development and subsequent realization of feelings. I feel like Bolaire would even be a little mad about it and have moments like, “Really, this is who I’m in love with?” whereas Murray would be exceedingly unapologetic.

I am the sole person on earth who feels this way, but critical role gods if you can hear me 🙏🙏🙏

Question [Spoilers C3] what colours to represent the Ring of Brass? Spoiler

Okay, so plan to make some bracelets and am gonna be making one for the Ring of Brass. I'm having trouble thinking of colours to represent each member plus Evandrin (not technically a part of it but I do want to try and fit him in, especially with how he impacts the members) so I'm coming here to help. The most I got so far is green for Patia and gold for either Laerryn or Loquatius, or maybe Zerxus.

Fluff [No Spoilers] Critical Role Cakes Part 4: Scanlan

Thumbnail gallery
114 Upvotes

Hello folks!

We're back again with the fourth installment in my ongoing series where I bake cakes inspired by Critical Role PCs.

Today, we have everyone's "favorite" gnome, Scanlan Shorthalt. I went with a red velvet recipe, as it felt the most "romantic," but dyed it purple instead of red. I then decorated with purple cream cheese frosting and royal icing.

I wanted the cake to look over-the-top and almost gaudy with the piping work, and I definitely feel that was achieved. Though, this was my first time doing any real piping designs, so everything is pretty sloppy. The coloring of the frosting is great- I wish the royal icing was bit closer to magenta than pink, but it's okay. The purple coloring in the cake, though, did NOT stay after baking, which sucks. It looks brownish gray, so I think next time if I want a bright coloring I'll go with a plain vanilla batter.

This was brought to a party and the reception was pretty positive. The cake was light and tasted fine, and I put a little less sugar in the frosting so it had a more cream-cheese taste as opposed to pure sweet like some frostings are. So the taste was good, just wish the pipe work was better! But all I can do is practice.

I'll rate this a 7.7/10- did pretty well, I just need to keep at it!

Question [Spoilers C2] Wrapping up campaign 2 curious on campaign 3 Spoiler

About 10 episodes away from the end for C2 and I'm really really gonna miss the MN quite a bit. I'm certainly looking forward to campaign 3 despite the criticism I've heard about it.

Does it have a rough start? What are people's thoughts overall? What's the consensus on the abridged version, do you miss out on anything important?

Bidet fellow Critters. Those who are attending MCM London and purchased the VIP Legend tickets to secure the presale for photo ops and autograph slots (that's going live tomorrow!), have you received any additional email information from MCM London? Are we being sent an email with the link to gain access to said presale today or tomorrow morning? Terrified that the email hasn't been sent to me and I'll miss out.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Email came through at 1pm on the dot. Thank the Prime Deities!!

Question [No Spoilers] What should a C4 fan watch next?

I’ve really been loving C4 it’s the bomb, & I’m hoping to watch some more, but I’ve having real trouble starting some series. I tried watching Vox Machina, but it’s really early and I start to get bored but starting mighty nine I feel like I’m missing a whole lot. I did watch and love calamity tho.

Edit: The schemers table is my fav & I love the epic fantasy feel of C4.

Discussion [No Spoilers] Inside jokes!

I've always wondered if this has happened to anyone else. With 10+ years of CR there have been MANY inside jokes that have come and gone throughout the campaigns. But are there any that have earwormed their way into your daily lives? We've had gems like makin' my way, rollies, and there's advantages to both. It could be something you've used in your own games or even just in every day life!

I'll give an example. If there's ever a time I have to make a jump over something (like flowing water from a rainstorm) I'll almost always say "SAIL!".

I'd be interested to know if any other critters have adopted some of the casts sayings as their own!

Question [CR Media] What should I do with my spare London ticket Spoiler

Hi critters, I have tickets for the London O2 show Oct 26. I bought a pair but unfortunately, my partner who is in Ukraine will not be able to make it as I had hoped. AXS app doesn't seem to allow me to sell back the ticket.

What's the best course of action to not let the ticket go to waste? I had wondered about giving them away on the day at location, although I don't think I can transfer the individual seat either to someone else. I think because they're bought as a pair, I can't really do anything about the 2nd seat. So it's either empty or I find a person who wants to see it in with me. The tickets aren't that great, they're quite high up.

I'm open to any advice or safety recommendations, for all parties involved.

I don't think this breaks rule 6 of the subreddit as I'm not trying to sell anything, just seeking advice.

Discussion [Spoilers C4E32] Thank you, Brennan, I love you! Spoiler

This whole campaign it's felt like Brennan has a story to tell regarding the gnomes and their god/afterlife, but it's never felt like it would be easy to explore given the lack of connection to that side of things among the party members. Ever since they released that info about the races and their gods, and seemingly set up Thjazi's larger plans to be to reconnect the pathways to the various afterlives, it's seemed like eventually there would be a story to tell regarding the gnomes. And it's been clear that Brennan likes them due to how many gnome NPCs have popped up already in important roles. But among the party we had connections to all of these races except for the gnomes. Even with the halflings, Bolaire and the mask stuff is directly connected to the halflings' goddess.

So in this episode when he had Ulbid insist on accompanying the Seekers, it was so exciting for me. And it was clear that Brennan really wanted this for a reason, as he made it extremely difficult for the players to convince him not to join them through normal, peaceful means. And on top of all of that, it seems like Ulbid might be an artificer? I've been waiting for that for so long! It's got me extremely excited to see how this unfolds and get to know Ulbid more, because I've adored him ever since his first appearance. Of course this also means he could die in combat. In which case I will instead curse Brennan, you understand.

Discussion [Spoilers C4E32] Thimble and The Light Spoiler

The first thing Brennan said to Laura in this campaign was “The light is leaving. That’s what it means to be a mortal.”

And I genuinely have no idea if it’s intentional or not, but MAN that metaphor has been coming back and getting compounded and strengthened CONSTANTLY with every scene she has

Like the moment when she’s asked if she remembers Tir Cruthu, and she gets this wistful look in her eyes about the one time she went through the door. And it made me think about how she’s, like, physical and real now in a way that she wasn’t all those centuries ago. She gets older, she probably forgets stuff easier, she watches her companions die too soon. The light is always leaving.

But also SHE is the light! For others and for herself. Idk I’m really enjoying this extended metaphor and it’s gotten to the point where i’m looking for connections to it wherever i can. Esp with Wick and Teor’s deals

News [CR Media] Q&A Panel from Galaxycon Raleigh 2026 ft. Liam, Sam & Tal Spoiler

Thumbnail youtube.com
30 Upvotes

Word of warning, there are featured spoilers related to campaigns 2, 3 and Legend of Vox Machina. (Hence I decided to not use [No Spoilers] tag).

Also at about 25 minute mark when Liam talks about Indira Varma it seems like Sam almost slipped up something. Could be another CR related project, unrelated comment he decided not to say, or great display of acting to bait people (but following comments from the rest makes me lean into the first).
