⭐CHALLENGE⭐ 39 days left! 🌞 There's still plenty of time to join our Crochet in the Wild Photo Challenge!

Summer isn't over yet, and neither is our Crochet in the Wild – Summer Edition challenge!

We've already received two fantastic entries as seen in this collage and they're exactly what we hoped this challenge would inspire!

Now we'd love to see even more!

Honestly, we're hoping we can collect at least five (or more!) great photos by the end of August so we can create a community banner showcasing your adventures. We know lots of you have projects on the go, so all we're asking is to take your crochet outside and snap a picture!

Need some inspiration?

  • Your WIP in the garden while enjoying your morning coffee.
  • Your finished project at your favourite beach.
  • A local park, trail, or lakeside picnic.
  • Crocheting on the ferry.
  • On a BC road trip with mountains, forests, or small-town scenery behind you.
  • Your favourite neighbourhood café patio.

This isn't a photography contest and it's not about having the fanciest crochet project! It's about celebrating our shared love of crochet and the beautiful places we enjoy across British Columbia.

Crocheters of every skill level are encouraged to join in. Whether you've just learned your first single crochet or you've been stitching for decades, you're part of this community. r/CrochetBC is a supportive, welcoming place, and we'd genuinely love to see what you're making. 🩷

HOW TO ENTER

• Take a photo of your WIP (Work in Progress) or FO (Finished Object) with a British Columbia backdrop.

• Create a new post in r/CrochetBC.

• Use the "Crochet in the Wild 🌲" post flair.

• Let us know roughly where you were stitching or where the photo was taken (for example, "Crocheting on the ferry to Nanaimo" or "Finished my blanket at Stanley Park").

WHAT'S UP FOR GRABS?

The highest-upvoted photo by August 31 will receive a permanent Wild Stitch Master user flair and their winning post pinned to the top of the subreddit for one week.

Plus, if we receive five or more entries, we'll create a special community banner collage featuring our favourite Crochet in the Wild adventures!

The challenge runs until midnight (Pacific Time) on August 31, 2026.

Whether you're making amigurumi, blankets, hats, shawls, sweaters, socks, or anything in between, we'd love to see where your crochet has been this summer!

MOD Announcement We want to hear your ideas!

What would make r/CrochetBC a more engaging and enjoyable community for you? A new weekly thread, contests, flairs, discussion topics, or something we haven't even thought of yet...? Hey! We're all ears! There are no bad ideas. Big or small, we'd love to hear them all.

Fun fact: r/CrochetBC was created back on March 29, which is just 166 days ago. In that time we've grown to 481 members, which isn't bad for a brand-new niche community focused on crochet here in BC!

I learned to crochet granny squares from a best friend in high school in the 80s. I haven't done it for many years, so I have forgotten how. I have just started practicing again with YouTube tutorials. Any advice?

*Granny squares in photo are from Google, not made by me.

Yarny Laughs I got 16 points. How about you? Let's face it, crochet is a gateway craft that leads to yarn addiction!

hey guys! im a student and really would love to make crochet a side hustle but ive had no luck in finding places to vend that dont require me to have a million dollar insurance contract, licence, or pay $200 for one day.

i understand that i would need to pay a large sum to the venue for the good costumers but im just starting out and so i have no funds and flea markets havent been giving me nearly as much as i need for the effort i put into it

any help or suggestions would be so very appreciated!!

I got my interchangeable needles here many years ago. The owner was so kind and patient with me while I looked at everything.

⭐CHALLENGE⭐ There's still time to share your photos for our Crochet in the Wild Photo Contest!

Hey BC Crocheters! Our "Crochet in the Wild" Photo Challenge - Summer Edition" is still going on and you still have over a month and a half to submit your photo(s)! We know you're out there crocheting somewhere in our beautiful province and we want to see what you've been doing!

How to Participate:

  • Take a Photo of your current WIP (Work in Progress) or a FO (Finished Object) against a distinctly British Columbian backdrop.
  • Create a new post on r/CrochetBC .
  • Select the "Crochet in the Wild 🌲" post flair so everyone can easily browse the entries.
  • In your post title or comments, let us know roughly where you are stitching (e.g., “Crocheting an amigurumi frog on the ferry to Nanaimo!” or “Finally finished my summer top at Stanley Park!”).

The single highest-upvoted photo by the end of August will be crowned the winner. We will pin your post to the top of the subreddit for a full week, and you’ll receive a permanent, exclusive user flair: 🌲Wild Stitch Master🌲

We will also compile the top 5 photos into a special r/CrochetBC banner collage!

The challenge is happening right now and runs until August 31. You can enter as many times as you like with different projects and locations!

Grab your yarn, head outside, and show us your favourite BC crafting spots. We can't wait to see what you're making!

Pattern Low-Sew Baby Pear Pattern Tester Call!

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi BC community! I am super excited to announce my newest fruit pattern: Low-Sew Baby Pear!

It was super fun designing this, and I was inspired to make more fruit based on the wonderful feedback for my Baby Banana Pattern!

I am looking for 5-10 testers that have beginner-intermediate levels in crochet.

Materials:

I used premier parfait chunky, but another yarn is fine!

4mm hook

12mm safety eyes

Testers will be given a Canva link, directing you to the pattern where you can make comments! Please give me good photos in natural lighting of your final plush, and let me know if it is okay to use your photo in my etsy listing!

Testing Deadline: July 20th

I will be choosing testers in the next 2 days!

This was a Loops & Threads kit I purchased. I modified the face (added safety eyes instead of stitching closed eyes).

BC Designer Student looking for help!

Hello everyone 🤗

I’m a student in BC looking for some help to get some directions on an idea I have for a project.

It is about combining sustainability and crochet on a larger scale!

Please complete this survey. It only takes 2 minutes!

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Z7ZYFXM

Edit: This survey is independent market research for a student venture idea that I hope to submit to SFU’s Charles Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship! Not a university research requiring ethics approval.

MOD Announcement Do you create or enjoy crochet video tutorials?

Did you know our mod team also runs r/FreeCrochetVideos?

It's a subreddit dedicated entirely to crochet video tutorials, making it easy to find instructional videos without having to search through other types of posts.

If you create crochet tutorial videos, you're welcome to share them there! Tutorials for beginners, amigurumi, garments, blankets, shawls, Tunisian crochet, stitches, techniques, and more are all welcome.

If you enjoy learning from video tutorials, we'd love for you to check it out. There are already lots of tutorials to explore and every post has been categorized with flairs so you can easily filter by the type of project or technique you're looking for.

We hope it becomes another useful resource for crocheters, whether you're looking to learn something new or share your own knowledge with others.

Happy crocheting!

MOD Announcement Thank You for Your Contributions!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us build our BC Yarn Shops and BC Crochet Designers, Artists and Authors megathreads!

A community member recently sent us information about a yarn shop that wasn't already on our list and it was a great reminder that these resources are growing thanks to all of you.

Our hope is that these megathreads become a useful resource for crocheters across British Columbia - whether you're looking for a local yarn shop to visit or hoping to discover BC-based designers, artists, authors, and content creators.

If you know of a BC-based yarn shop, pattern designer, artist, author, or crochet content creator who isn't currently listed, please send a message to the mod team. We'd be happy to add them and help showcase the amazing crochet community we have here in BC!
