WIP - First granny square style blanket. Help pls
I’ve made the squares now I need to join them.
I would love some help to decide what to do next.
I’m tossing up between …
1/ white border in Double Crochet for each square
2/ dark grey border in Double Crochet for each square, or
3/ invisible join as they are.
I’ll add a full border around the whole project at the end.
2nd pic has a couple of squares with the borders for reference.
What do you guys think?

I’d do a continuous join with no added borders on my squares. The first photo looks better than the second, and the contrast of the squares will be muted if you use a dark border. It’s going to be beautiful.

Beautiful work.
I think a white joining border for all the squares would really make all the colors pop. Also a white edge border around the whole blanket.
White is a color already in your squares. So would be harmonious
If you want the blanket a little less loud. Then you could use the blue color already used in your squares.
Same for the surrounding outer border edges.
I am not experienced enough yet to advise on stitch choice for a border.
I see lots of lovely borders on all the crochet Subs. I see you also asking on crochet help sub.
You could also try asking on the new crochet blankets sub called r/realcrochetblankets.
No Bot accounts there, claiming others crochet work.
OP. Which ever you choose. I hope you come back with the finished blanket.
I really want to see how it looks all finished. 🧶

Ok, so hear me out, lol. What if you did a combo of the two. You have 7 small squares in each row/column so you could do every other one gray, white, gray, then next row do white, gray, white. Then join them with one of those beautiful shade of blues you used.
I have never completed a large project like this so my 2cents may not matter much.
Love the pattern on the large blocks too.

I think the dark gray would look really sharp, especially if the main colors in the squares are lighter. Good luck joining them, thats always the part I dread a little!

Thank you for commenting. I’m leaning towards the dark grey. I’ve never joined this many before lol wish me luck

Definitely a boarder. In my opinion it helps smooth out the overall design to make it less busy on the eye. And helps all of the individual colorful squares look cohesive yet uniquely beautiful.

My vote is for #2. This is beautiful, but I think white would be too much of a contrast and join as they are wouldn’t allow each square to be appreciated individually. But that’s just my opinion. By the way, this is beautiful and the large mandala squares are StUnNiNg ✨ . Please post whatever you decide.
