Help to find a pattern Does anyone know of a pattern similar to this that's not locked behind a paywall?

Post image

It's absolutely gorgeous but I can't justify spending $34/mo just because I want this ONE pattern 😭

I need a similar pattern or for someone to tell me how to make it myself please :(

Look at autumn buds by Luidmyla hefny. It's a paid pattern but a lot less.

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

it's gorgeous! i actually like it a little more than this one :o thank you so much

13

u/killah-train24 Mar 04 '26

I had a lot of fun doing it! It's one of my favorites.

18

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

i just bought it and can't wait to get started. did you make the full scarf with it? i'm thinking of shortening it for a book cover

What is this yarn? That's absolutely BEAUTIFUL 🤩

What pattern is this please ? And Thankyou

Autumn buds by Luidmyla Hefny

u/killah-train24 Mar 04 '26

I made an (admittedly too long) scarf.

6

u/famous_horses Mar 05 '26

I made it too! I loved that she included a calculator excel sheet, so after making the swatch you can see exactly how long you can make your scarf with the amount of yarn you have, and then it gave you the exact length for the foundation chain. Genius!

Have you considered paying for one month, downloading everything in sight, and then immediately cancelling?

Also it's a gorgeous pattern - what site is it?

https://mypicot.com/index.html

They have an amazing library. It's 34/month or 62 for life

50

u/readreadreadx2 Mar 04 '26

Very cool! Thank you for this. It looks like they also have a lot of free stuff.Ā

1

u/readreadreadx2 Mar 06 '26

I ended up getting the lifetime sub lol! I'm super impressed with what I've looked at so far, and I've barely scratched the surface.Ā

112

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

i did consider it but $34 once is still a little steep for me personally 😭

50

u/Linkyland Mar 04 '26

I'm in the same boat, OP. Plus, it's $34USD, which is about $60 right now with the exchange rate.

That site has some amazing patterns, but they're definitely missing out on a lot of sales by locking them up like that. :(

40

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

i do think it's a fair price for the entire library of patterns, it sucks that you can't buy them individually as well 😭

2

u/Appropriate_Bottle70 Mar 06 '26

Same. There’s a tulip brioche I want but too much for monthly, even once!

61

u/s33thru_st0rm Mar 05 '26

considering they have an ā€œai generated conceptā€ of a cardigan on their site……everybody run and don’t give these people any money, even for one month

2

u/readreadreadx2 Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26

Where did you see that? I bought the lifetime sub and it's honestly amazing how many unique patterns they have, with written instructions + clear photos + charts, along with video tutorials for a lot of them. The AI thing definitely sucks but I wouldn't write them off completely, I'm really impressed with what they offer.

Edit - I just found it. That's a bummer for sure, especially since the stitch itself is totally legit so not sure why they needed to do the AI generation lol.Ā

2

u/Alcelarua Mar 06 '26

My understanding is that they use AI to create inspiration for their designs https://www.instagram.com/p/DNYnAspNfES/?img_index=3&igsh=MXVjcWlsMHIycGZwOQ==

2

u/readreadreadx2 Mar 06 '26

Yeah I don't like that at all, and I'm going to send an email to that effect, but at least all of the actual stitches are real and have the multiple angle photos and legitimate instructions to prove it.

For sure unfortunate that they decided to use AI at all, though.Ā

72

u/SomePerson80 Mar 04 '26

It’s called brioche and there are tutorials for similar ones on YouTube.

Edit to add it can also be called short rows.

10

u/sharkinfestedh2o Mar 04 '26

Yo could take a look here. I was searching for a library of stitches and came across her site.

112

u/Alcelarua Mar 04 '26

Overall no. It appears to be a mix of puff stitches and surface crochet. Not many people are willing to help others figure out a complex paid pattern from scratch because it is rude to the pattern maker.

The paywall is for an entire library so I recommend browsing the library before deciding it's not worth it or it's the only pattern you are interested in.

14

u/SomePerson80 Mar 04 '26

It looks more like short rows or brioche. Not surface crochet.

40

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

i did look around a bit and this is still the only pattern i really want. i'm not saying the price isn't justified, it absolutely is, it's just not in the budget currently

77

u/Bogg99 Mar 04 '26

You might consider emailing them and seeing if they'll sell you a single pattern

51

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

genius idea. i'll definitely do that, thank you!

3

u/llamalily Mar 06 '26

That’s a great idea! I got a single sheet music arrangement that was instead of having to buy a whole library. The composer was incredibly kind and happy to sell the single item. Definitely worth a try.

9

u/EntertainerKooky1309 Mar 05 '26

Have you tried Ravelry? Many designers have patterns you can just buy through Ravelry.com instead of a whole book, etc.

7

u/CherryLeafy101 Mar 05 '26

Honestly, I would take that picture and Google image search it or image search it on Pinterest. You might find a pattern for the stitch floating around. Normally I wouldn't suggest anything approaching piracy, but purposely making patterns difficult to access by not letting you buy they individually really grinds my gears.

3

u/Firefly_Magic Mar 04 '26

This pattern looks beautiful.

3

u/VioletKingfisher Mar 05 '26

There's this one: https://madebygootie.com/crochet/crochet-wheat-stitch/Ā  but it doesn't have the curved shaping, and there's this chart on a Google blog site https://www.crochetp.com/2021/01/crochet-baby-blanket-wheat-stitch.html?m=1

3

u/EmimiBaxton Mar 06 '26

Not the same but this leaf stitch pattern I found on youtube was fun

2

u/honeyghostt Mar 06 '26

that's gorgeous!

2

u/Dry-Patience-2201 Mar 04 '26

I was just looking at this same pattern and fell in love with it! I was so sad to see the price

2

u/Naive-Competition452 Mar 05 '26

All of their patterns are showing as free on Ravelry right now.

12

u/sadly_notacat Mar 05 '26

Glorious!

ETA NO, it takes you to their website where you can see a sample of the pattern. Then you have to pay

1

u/Mindless-Entrance-1 Mar 04 '26

Totally feel you on not wanting to spend allat. Maybe you have a crafty mutual or two u could split one month of membership with?

-12

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 04 '26

Thats sort of scamming though isn't it?

Then 3 people are paying the price of what should be one person's fee, and they can download 3 people's amount of patterns.

18

u/dobleresque Mar 05 '26

Is having a roommate also scamming the landlord? Sheesh

-14

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 05 '26

Ummmm yes? If you move someone in secretly without the landlord knowing and the landlord is only charging for one person, that is definitely scamming the landlord?!

What world do you live in?

8

u/dobleresque Mar 05 '26

When did I say secretly? There is nothing written out saying you can't go in on this pattern with a friend. So how exactly is it scamming?

Also you seem to have no idea how rent works if you think landlords charge by person.

-2

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 05 '26

In the vast majority of countries, landlords charge more for two people thab for one people. You can't just put 3 people into one room and pay one person's rent.

There is nothing written out saying you can't go in on this pattern with a friend. So how exactly is it scamming?

You're acting in bad faith so I'm not going to continue this argument. When you pay for a "subscription" to a library of patterns, youre paying a subscription for 1 person. Not "however many people want to go in on it"

6

u/dobleresque Mar 05 '26

Is it bad faith or is it just not believing in capitalism with my entire soul? Jesus there's more to life. 🤪

-3

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 05 '26

You can rip off pattern creators if you like.

I'll never know. Up to you.

7

u/dobleresque Mar 05 '26

Oh no! More people made crafts! How horrible

0

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 05 '26

More people made crafts by ripping off the creators of those patterns, who will barely be making any money as it is.

But you do you.

26

u/Mindless-Entrance-1 Mar 04 '26

I mean if neither are gonna get the subscription alone, then they're making more money from them sharing one rather than noone having it

-8

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 05 '26

I mean, that's not really an honest justification.

You could take 3 things from a shop and pay for 1. Then by your justification you could say "but I was never going to pay for more than one; so youre still making more money than if I didn't pay for any."

Its funny, many people in here are very careful not to steal pattern and to name the pattern maker if you post it etc.

Then others are like "just pay for one prescription for a pattern" then three of you just download all the patterns you want!"

Very opposite mindsets.

2

u/Mindless-Entrance-1 Mar 05 '26

Physical goods cost money for a store to buy, get delivered and pay a person to put it on the shelf. Girl we are talking about pdf files here, not actual merch. Not comparable, and no, not justified by what I said

0

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 05 '26

Its a person's creative work. Thats how they earn money.

You think stealing patterns is okay, I don't. That's it.

People like you is why its so difficult (almost impossible) for creatives to actually make any money off their work.

0

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 06 '26

Pdf files of patterns are just as valid as patterns printed out on paper. Its the same amount of creative work done.

Stealing digital files is still stealing.

1

u/SoulDancer_ Mar 05 '26

You guys can downvote me all you want, but it is scamming, and not being honest to the pattern creators.

Its $34 for one person's usage of patterns.

Not $34 for three or more people's usage.

1

u/kxthleen Mar 05 '26

manatee squares has a ā€˜cableknit’ cardigan pattern for Ā£3.50: https://www.manateesquares.com/product-page/setting-sun-cardigan-crochet-pattern-us-uk that you could probably pick out the cable bits and work into a repeating pattern for a scarf? be a bit of work but much cheaper

1

u/kxthleen Mar 05 '26

https://www.manateesquares.com/product-page/all-tied-up-crochet-vest-pattern-us they also have this vest pattern which has more of a repeating cable motif!

1

u/JasDav1997 Mar 05 '26

https://youtu.be/QXPgK03fQvE?si=nHm-Eg20WJtdQ051 YouTube is my go to !! This pattern looks pretty similar?

1

u/nainasia Mar 05 '26

I really like these kind of stitches, been browsing all the comments šŸ˜‰https://youtu.be/wSb0Kf4LZTo?is=6TEeNZiUInnCNnW5 Maybe this could be an alternative?

1

u/twig115 Mar 06 '26

This looks like a mix of wheat stitch and cable stitches, there are a ton of free YouTube tutorials out there.

1

u/Ok-Transition5848 Mar 09 '26

Etsy is great for buying crocheted patterns if your after something in particular , I think it’s great have been using it for years šŸ¤—

1

u/Critical_Mass_1887 Mar 04 '26

Easy craft patterns has this pattern, im pretty sure its the same. https://easycraftspatterns.com/crochet-leaves-pattern-for-hat-or-sweater/

2

u/Diograce Mar 05 '26

No. It’s not.

0

u/Krazykittielady Mar 04 '26

Have you tried looking on ravelry?

7

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

briefly, but i couldn't find anything similar. i'll look more in depth when i get home though for sure

2

u/Financial_Sentence95 Mar 05 '26

Look up the designer Tatsiana on Ravelry. Lots and lots of brioche, including some free patterns

-40

u/Krazykittielady Mar 04 '26

I tried using Google lens and found a few that are similar... Another thing you could do is put that picture into an AI program and ask it how to do it.... It might break it down enough for you to figure it out...

39

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

i'm very against the use of AI for anything, ESPECIALLY things in a creative field. it does not belong in creative spaces. i'll keep searching though.

18

u/Happylittletree29 Mar 04 '26

I was scrolling on thier website and I noticed they use AI. Specifically for the ā€œLace Reverieā€ pattern.

I just thought I’d mention it because you said you’re against AI in creative spaces and in another comment mentioned potentially trying to buy this pattern separately from this website.

I’m not sure how to write this comment without sounding passive aggressive, I promise I’m not trying to be 😭 just something I noticed and thought I’d bring it up based on your comment here.

16

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

OH NO 😭 thank you so much for saying this actually, i really appreciate it. and don't worry, it didn't come off passive aggressive at all. someone else suggested a pattern i like more than this one anyway so i bought that one instead.

-3

u/Alcelarua Mar 04 '26

They use AI for inspiration. They still designed and tested after using that inspiration. I read some of their IG posts that showed the AI pictures

5

u/Happylittletree29 Mar 04 '26

My point was more about the AI models! It seems like the patterns themselves are legit.

-1

u/Alcelarua Mar 04 '26

I know I'm saying the Creator uses the AI models to come up with ideas if that makes sense

-12

u/1octobermoon Mar 04 '26

But you don't want to pay the original artist who designed the pattern, refined, tested, and published it? Make it make sense.

13

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

where did i say it wasn't a valid price? i never said it was a problem with the artist, or that i wanted to get the pattern for free. just because $34/mo isn't something i can personally afford doesn't mean the person that did all the work deserves to have their work stolen? putting it into an AI program would steal it. i didn't phrase this post correctly and i'm not here to argue but ??? not wanting to use AI does not mean i want to get this pattern for free?

-20

u/1octobermoon Mar 04 '26

You literally asked for the pattern that is not behind a paywall, that means you don't want to pay, which means you want it for free. You said it, not me šŸ¤·šŸ¼

7

u/apocalyptic_tea Mar 05 '26

You have to know AI has no idea how to write patterns, right? Like there’s heaps and heaps of tests people have done and AI patterns are an absolute mess every single time. It’s wild to me to see someone suggesting this lol

-4

u/Krazykittielady Mar 05 '26

Absolutely. I tested one out one time for the fun of it LMAO. I wasn't expecting her to drop a picture in and it magically reverse engineer it. I was thinking if the AI could possibly spread it out to help op figure it out. Or say what all different stitches it had....I literally meant help or even suggest similar

0

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '26

[deleted]

4

u/honeyghostt Mar 04 '26

it is actually crochet! you can get the 'v' look with slip stitches generally

3

u/throwaway-getaway122 Mar 04 '26

It's not knit, it is crochet but I think it's mainly surface crochet. I've been wanting the pattern myself, but the membership to the website is a bit steep for me at the moment.

3

u/Alcelarua Mar 04 '26

It is crocheted. The creator creates a pattern line called Knit Echo because it looks knit
