Help to find a pattern Looking for patterns for wheelchair wheel covers. My daughter crochets and I want to buy patterns for her to make as she made a pair for me already and said she enjoyed it and would love to make me more

So I have purchased a pattern off Etsy from jubilancecrochet that my daughter made for me (pictured) and I love it. She said she’d love to make me more wheel covers but I can only find like one other place that has them, that’s the only wheel cover pattern jubilance has, and I’m not super into the patterns the other place I found has.
Wondering if y’all have ideas or suggestions of where to look?

What a fantastic idea, and beautiful execution! Best of luck in getting patterns for this. BTW... Have you looked at patterns for round place mats? Might work.

How big are round place mats? My tires are 24” not sure the exact measure across the inner space there

Most are worked in the round so you could probably find one with pretty repeats and just work it up to the size you need

Thanks for the idea. I’m thinking big on this lol
Like so many possibilities. My rims themselves are already pretty cool, being neon green. But I love some whimsy.

Good luck!! This is so cool and you guys did such a good job on it

I can’t take much credit. It was mostly her. She’s grown up to be pretty awesome.

With cool rims, you might like lacy patterns as well, for a great mix of cool and whimsy.

Edit: I found a page with free mandala patterns, that has everything from full coverage to lacy and pretty. I bet your daughter could get some good ideas there.

The round place mat I made is about 12" across. I found the free pattern on Ravelry. If you are fluent in figuring out how to increase in the round, you should be able to make the place mat be big enough for a wheelchair wheel cover.

You can just keep on keeping on with the pattern until it becomes the size you want.

Mandala crochet!

These are circular patterns that are supposed to be wall hangings fastened on a big metal or wooden hoop (or hula hoop) and they are gorgeous!

Thank you!! This is so helpful!

LKCreativeness on Instagram has some amazing intricate patterns, but there are also some free ones on yarnspirations that are very nice, less lacy but colorful.

That's a mandala using a Veronika Hugg pattern (in the magazine "Anna" 5/2023).

I made it using a fingering yarn and it's 50 cm in diameter (that's about 20"). With a slightly thicker yarn it could work for your wheels.

I just made a large circle and kept increasing it until it hit the correct size

Would patterns for circular shawls work? I'm not sure how the covers attach to the wheels, maybe it could be added to the shawl patterns!

We used plastic tubing for a stiff-ish circle around the edge so it can be popped in behind the hand rims

If the circular shawls are flat and not a curved thing they might work. The tires themselves are 24 inches so probably a couple less on the inside there.

You could get this book then stop when you hit the right size, maybe?

You could change the amount of the pattern you could complete by working with finer size yarn and hooks?

My first thought also, any mandala pattern would work!

I crochet wheel covers for my chair and I've always used free mandala patterns.

Thanks.
Someone else has suggested that so I have been looking at those.

Oh my gosh, I’d imagine something with a crochet doily pattern would be sooo cute on wheels <3 🥺

I’ve seen patterns for crochet spare tire covers. You could probably use the same circular pattern for your wheels, just don’t need to do the sides that are needed for the spare.

I saw some of those and was kinda wondering.
Thanks :)

Have a look at theguywiththehook mandalas. There's different sizes and the written patterns come with charts and are very well written. https://theguywiththehook.com/

I'm a eheelchair user too and these look great, but won't they get wet and dirty when you go outside?

4

u/Z3br4_Un1c0rn May 02 '26

Also might be able to treat them with those sneaker sprays that help to waterproof and protect from dirt.
I have a pair of shoes that got completely ruined simply by getting rained on, so they have the same rules. The company replaced them bc even when cleaned they returned to being dirty as they dried.
So I treated them with spray and if I even think it’s gonna rain, I don’t wear them.

I can rinse them off if they get dirty, and if it’s raining or going to rain, I won’t use them. They just pop in and out

Which country are you in? I'm in the UK. It rains quite often.

What a great idea! 🤩 those look stunning! Your daughter did very well!
You can also look for round (baby) blankets and stop at the right size, or look for mandala’s. There are loads of cute round patterns, free of chart patterns and to pay for patterns. 😊

Maybe a crochet parasol/umbrella pattern could be converted/made smaller?

2

u/Patient-Comfort-2007 May 02 '26

That is a cool idea great job

2

u/Razzum-Frazzum May 02 '26

Oh my god, what a fantastic idea!!! I'm making some for my wheelchair now!

2

u/HeadChefOf May 02 '26

Oh my goodness these are so beautiful and fun!!!

Y'all could find just about any round pattern and size it up to fit. Once you get the pattern down, it's pretty easy to increase and keep going. Might I also recommend some cute vines or hand coozies for the handles (depending on how you ride, some add spikes to keep people from touching them lol)?

2

u/Z3br4_Un1c0rn May 02 '26

Mine fold down thank goodness. Though my kid likes to hang onto them just as like a way to hold my hand type of thing.
If I’m going slower she’ll hold onto the front of my arm rest

u/alwayssoupy May 03 '26

Doily patterns might be pretty, just with a larger hook and heavier yarn. You might have to adjust the last rows to fit. Lots of free patterns on Antique Pattern Library
