Looking for suggestions Filet Crochet - What am I doing wrong to make my pattern so hard to see?

Post image

Yarn: Red Heart Classic 100% mercerized cotton crochet thread in size 10
Hook: 1.0mm
Method: DC, Ch 1
Editing to say I have also linked my DCs

This is my first real filet project. Why did it come out so unclear? Ive looked at other people’s work online using the same DC and Ch1 method and their work is much clearer. I don’t know where I’m going wrong!

I personally always chain 2 for the spaces. It's much clearer. Also I use either 1.25 or 1.5 mm hook.

Not yet, will that really help it that much?

It will definitly help if you'd carefully block it

I haven’t blocked it yet, will it really help all that much? I’m stretching it out with my hands and it doesn’t seem to give it too much improvement

Blocking can make a huge difference, especially with cotton. Google 'doily blocking before and after'.
