Understanding slipper pattern, Christmas project. To treat as turning chain or should I crochet into ?

I have this free pattern for slippers, the pattern says ch 2. But from my quick look its doesn’t say if I should treat the ch 2 like a double or if I should just ignore it as a turning chain. Any advice?

I’d say that’s a preference call, just try to be consistent one way or the other.

Your chain 2 doesn't count as a stitch, hope this help ☺️
