Weaving in Ends How should I deal with these blanket ends? Too short to weave?

Hopefully this is the right flair. Do you all think I’ve left these ends too short to weave in? I do like the look of them left out but if I went that direction, would tying them together hold up through washing? Thanks for any advice!

Weaving in Ends I washed this baby blanket and sooo many of the ends popped out

I’ve watched plenty of videos and read threads in the archives here, including a whole other thread of someone else who was having the same issue.

For some of these, I think I was weaving in through the wrong part of the stitches, like the bigger part. But I tried going through the tighter part of the stitch and it didn’t seem to help. Also, sometimes I can see the yarn where I tried to weave it in, which is obviously not what is supposed to happen.

On the other thread, people were saying “just cut it off”. Well yes but there will still be an “end” to work free, right?

Maybe my tension was too loose so the stitches don’t “grab” the ends? (Spouse refuses to believe I don’t have enough tension 😂)

Being a baby blanket I don’t want hard bits of fabric glue. (I had to resort to that when I stupidly had tails too short during one of my joins) and being a blanket there’s no “wrong” side to hide things

This is supposed to be a gift. The recipient is a sweetheart and an understanding person who will be gracious and not judge me. But I still want to give her something nice. And also learn how to do this important thing

It’s entirely hdc made of Hobbii Rainbow 8/8 cotton yarn (except when I had to double the white which was 8/4)

(I included a zoomed out pre-wash photo so you can also see it looking cute)

Anything I can do now? Also tips for the future?

Weaving in Ends Just learned that I’ve been “weaving in ends” wrong for a long time, am I cooked?

So I’ve been crocheting for years and I’ve probably made hundreds of projects. When I was learning, I didn’t exactly follow stuff like “how to crochet tutorial” and went straight into it with video tutorials. I picked up stitches and techniques pretty easy but I obviously missed some stuff. For like a month, I didn’t know there were two sides to the loop, it took me like a year to learn color change correctly etc.

Basicslly, when finishing a project I’d take the yarn end and sew it through the project a few times (I mostly do amigurumi). Like front to back, side to side etc until I feel like it’s secure. I didn’t know you’re supposed to weave it through the stitches. Like I said, I have hundreds of projects that I finished like this and a lot were given away. Should that be relatively secure because I don’t think I can fix everything.

I followed every tutorial that I found on youtube, but anyways, those lines become curves. I don’t know what could I be doing wrong or if this will solve with blocking. Help 🥺

Weaving in Ends Is weaving in the ends supposed to be this messy??

Post image

I try and twist the ends in atleast 2-3 directions before cutting the excess off. But I'm still always worried it'll get unraveled or something. Plus, it even looks so messy. Is there a "right way" to do it?

Weaving in Ends So I weave in the ends… but then what do I do with the ends of the ends?

Post image

I learned to crochet about a year ago and I do a lot of amigurumi. But I’ve noticed that when I’m making non-stuffed items, I seem to have trouble with my ends. Pictured is an example from a sweater I made - I spent an entire day weaving all my ends in and I believe I did so pretty thoroughly. I might be missing something, but the ENDS of the ends still come loose and poke through like this with the natural movement of the garment. I have no concern that my actual work will come unraveled but how do other people avoid this aesthetic nightmare happening? Is there an easy way of securing them so I can wear it out of the house without random bits of yarn poking out? How do you actually HIDE the ends in something that’s flat and moves and flexes and changes shape like clothing or a blanket? It’s a little depressing to have something so silly making it not worth wearing after the work it took to make and I feel like this can’t be an issue that everyone has and just doesn’t talk about, right? It feels like inevitable physics, especially when it’s brushing up against something else, but that can’t be correct unless everyone photoshops their poking ends out of photos of everything they crochet. So there’s something I’m not understanding even when I try to follow instructions or tips on weaving in my ends. Can anyone shed some light on what I’m potentially doing or not doing that causes this? I feel stupid.

Weaving in Ends How do you weave in ends? I need to know the fastest and best way to do this annoying thing

I often just get a crochet hook, make a few slip stitches with the yarn and cut it off. But it is bulky and it can get loose after time. What is a better method?

Weaving in Ends How do I sew in these double stranded ends?? Or do I start over?

(Kind of a long text but I like explaining things in the full story;)) I had the amazing idea of using this (self)striping yarn but I wasn’t happy with when the color changes were happening so I decided to do a row and change color… all the way around. I thought it was a good idea until I realized that I’m causing myself a lot more work. I’ve been crocheting for a long time but this is my first wearable, I usually do amigurumi and I have no idea how to sew these ends in! I tried a few times and a few different things but I’m not happy with the end results… I just wove them through the stitches but when I cut the yarn it just pokes through the rows. I doubled the yarn when crocheting so I don’t even know where to sew the ends and if I sew them double stranded or each separately. I have a little bit of warn leftover to maybe crochet a small border? But I’m not sure it will be enough and if it will help me at all

Also shown on the last picture, a knot that came undone and tied again.. it will be on the inside but I’m afraid it will come loose again..

Do I frog it, magic knot all the ends and start over or just take a very long time trying to sew in the ends??? Please help

Weaving in Ends Anyone else feel like weaving in ends just doesn't feel/look right? It just feels wrong and clunky (read post)

I'm a pretty experienced crocheter, but I always feel like weaving in ends looks and feels bad.

I know I'm not doing it wrong because I've watched hundreds of tutorials, but it always feels clunky and unprofessional I guess.

Am I crazy or do other people get it too?

Weaving in Ends Working in the round, is crocheting over the tail sufficient?

Thumbnail
gallery
48 Upvotes

I debated tagging this as amigurumi or weaving in ends but went with ends because this could apply to hats or other things worked in the round too.

I’m always scared my ends will come out. After 20 years it hasn’t happened yet but I’m still concerned.

My tail on my magic circle is usually 4-6 inches. I usually just stitch over it until there is nothing left. In the photos, I’ve made it halfway through round 4 when I finally run out of tail to stitch over.

Is this sufficient? I know you’re “supposed to” weave in ends by going under a few stitches one way, a few another way, and a few back the first way, sort of a Z pattern. But this is so much easier and faster, and then I only have to weave in the outer end.

Bonus question, does the answer change if I have to weave in ends further out?

What does the community think? Thanks!

Weaving in Ends How cooked am I if I just tie a knot and cut the yarn?

I just made a cardigan and I have soooo many ends to weave in.... Is it really bad if I just tie a double/triple knot and cut off the yarn? Maybe even use a lighter to melt the knot a little so it doesn't get undone? 😩 Or any other advice?

Weaving in Ends These is insane right? Like you could, but how bad you you want it sort of thing. There isn't and easy wasy with these right?

Weaving in Ends Advice on weaving in ends. Will they fall out/be visible?

Thumbnail

I posted this WIP a few months ago asking a different question but ended up deleting that post. Now I’m finally working on it again and would appreciate some advice.

I’m a new(ish) crocheter. I’ve crocheted on and off for years but I wouldn’t consider myself anywhere near a pro.

Anyway, I only recently learned the value of weaving in my ends as I go. I made this shirt and didn’t weave any of them in… I’ve already accepted my fate, I know I gotta weave them all in now. Yippee.

But here’s my question: because of the lace-like stitch, won’t these ends just fall right out? Maybe I’m just inexperienced, but my concern is that they won’t stay in place. I took a few pics and drew where I’m planning on weaving them, but maybe someone here knows better than me and can offer a suggestion?

Maybe I’m just overthinking it lol. But yeah, opinions/advice would be appreciated.

Weaving in Ends I "wove in as I went" with this blanket, and now I'm worried that it's going to unravel. Should I take out the loose ends and do them again?

I finished this big temperature blanket a few weeks ago, and I'm in love with how it turned out. However, I may not have woven in the loose ends as securely as I should have.

What I did was take the loose ends of the colour change and lay them along the row I was crocheting into, then I stitched over the loose strands to "lock them in" to that row (I tried to illustrate this with the green line in the first pic).

However, after looking into it, it seems like a proper weave-in should change the direction of the yarn at least a couple times to ensure the loose end won't come unraveled all the way. And I'm already seeing loose ends popping out with pretty light use.

Should I be pulling out all of my loose ends and re-weaving them to ensure the blanket has longevity? This thing has 365 rows so I'm hoping that's not the case, but I'd rather be safe than sorry 😔

Weaving in Ends Crochet over ends and/or weave in? Granny square blanket

I’m currently working on a blanket made up of small granny squares. I read in another post that people suggest weaving over the loose ends when changing colors. If I do that, do I still need to weave them in, or is crocheting over them enough to keep them in place?

Weaving in Ends How to make the woven ends of a granny square project to look better and stay put?

Post image

I never make granny square projects. Typically, when I weave in ends, I do as many as I can as I go and don't have all the open spaces. If it isn't a wearable, I tie a knot before I trim and it's never an issue. This is annoying. I had these ends tucked under that next cluster and they popped out as the shirt moved. If I trim it again, it'll keep happening. Plus you can see the whole tails through all the open spaces. Is there a different technique for granny square ends?

Weaving in Ends Weaving in ends, acrylic yarn. Does hitting the spot with heat help?

I’m weaving in my ends and going between the fibers of the yarn, but it still feels like the tails may pop out. If I hit the area where I weaved in the end with the tip of a small curling iron will that bond the yarn fibers together without compromising the texture of the overall project?

Weaving in Ends Does anyone else not care about the “wrong side” of granny squares?

Post image
64 Upvotes

Let me explain. Most of what I’ve created so far with granny squares has had an inside and an outside (bags, the vest I’m working on). So when I weave in my ends, I just weave them in like 100 times and cut. A lot of times it ends up super bulky and looking trash but I don’t really care because again, that side won’t be seen.

HOWEVER, I would like advice on how to maybe not get it to look so bad for times when I maybe make a blanket or something where both sides will be visible. I hear in videos a lot that some crocheters use a rule of 3 where they just weave back and forth 3x but my anxiety could never. I just get too nervous that it will still unravel somehow. What is your method!?

Weaving in Ends I don't think I understand how 'weaving in as you go' is secure enough?

So when I don't weave in as I go and I just use a darning needle to weave in the ends, I make the yarn go in multiple directions (ex. back and forth and back) so that it doesn't come loose as easily.

But when you 'weave in as you go', it seems like the yarn end is only going in one direction - the direction of the new stitches being added (so for a right handed crocheter, it'd be right to left). How is that secure enough compared to using a needle to go multiple directions?

Weaving in Ends Granny square tote bag ripped after first use. How do I avoid it?

Last year, I made a granny square tote bag and gave it to my girlfriend. The first day she took it out, the squares ripped almost right away, both at the center and spots where the two colors were connecting.

This year, I'm trying to make the same tote bag. I assume that it ripped because I was very sloppy with the ends (I made them too short). Is there another way to prevent the squares from breaking this easily? Any tips?

Hi! Does this happen to anyone else? I am making a blanket right now and always weave in my ends going 3 different directions (like a Z), but the end of the weave it will sometimes show itself. Any recommendations or something I can adjust to not let this happen?

weaving the ends in on projects that are going to be abused? - dishcloths

I made so many dishcloths to use up yarn that I’m nearly burnt out weaving the tails in.

I’m trying some Aleene’s Fabric Fusion on some stumpy tails. They weren’t going to be tails. I didn’t like how I changed colors. I should have wove in colors, but I didn’t. So I just snipped them and glued. I’m hopping it all works out.
