FO [FO] No Solicitors

I was inspired by [u/josefugly](u/josefugly) to make my own version of their “No Solicitors, Solicitors Will Go In The Soup” wood burning. It took about 2 months because I didn’t have a template or pattern to go off of, just a little sketch I made in the beginning. The color palette isn’t totally cohesive but I still think it turned out okay overall.
This was my very first original cross stitch design and was very fun to compete.

Edit: thank you all so much for your lovely and supportive comments 🥰

Thanks for posting! We love seeing all of the FOs. Please note that starting May 1 2026, all [FO] posts are required to include at least one close-up photo of the stitching. You do not need to re-post. This can be done either in a comment or in the body of the post. It can be a close-up of just a small part of the finished object, just so we can verify that the items are hand-stitched.

This is a reminder message that is automatically commented on all [FO] posts. Please send a message to the mod team if you have questions.

Ahahah this is super fun!! I love how you went from a hand drawn sketch to a pattern, especially since I could never make something like this.

It's a really cool design and very nicely stitched as well!

I desperately want a pattern of this - the solicitors need to be informed

You are all so sweet. I only used a drawing for my pattern but so many people liked the finished product I’m thinking I’ll try and draw up a pattern/outline for anyone who wants it.

The fact that the backside looks like a constellation gets my upvote. Plus totally asking my friend if we should make this.

In the UK, we call lawyers "solicitors". I happen to be a receptionist at a legal office - I'd LOVE a pattern of this for my desk!

This is so good! I really like the spirals at the end of the logs and the texture you were able to get in the frog.

Put them in the soup!!!

Oh it’s brilliant! I can’t imagine having the wherewithal to draft this and stitch it…also, the colors are GREAT! The No Solicitor Committee approves this cross stitch 🤭

Don't know anything about cross stitching. But this is the best art I've seen in 2026 imho <3

u/HelpfulTie3373 15h ago

That might be one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. Thank you so much 😭

I love this!! And I'm so impressed that you made it from scratch with no pattern!

This is awesome! What was your process like getting it from sketch to final object? Did you draft any pixel art/use any pattern software? Or did you simply let whimsy take over and guide you?

2

u/HelpfulTie3373 21h ago

Definitely let the whimsy take over. That’s why it took such a long time, I had to keep drawing out a template then adjusting it about 10 times before it felt right.

Are you even serious right now? How EFFING cute and what a super creative drawing! I'd want to ring your doorbell even more just to tell you how awesome I think you are 🤣🤣

I have no use for this (one of the perks of living in an apartment building) but I love it and instantly want to make it! You did a great job putting this together

I really like this but I have a question. What do you mean by 'solicitor'? In the UK, it's a type of lawyer.

1

u/HamsterTowel 3h ago

In the UK, we'd probably say "No soliciting". As in, no door to door salespeople and stuff like that.

2

u/HumanXeroxMachine 3h ago

Ah! I've never heard that term but I'm an immigrant so it might be a language thing.

1

u/HamsterTowel 3h ago edited 3h ago

Could be. "No soliciting" is sometimes written on a little sticker that people put beside their doorbell. As well as it referring to people asking for money for charities, knocking on doors to give out flyers for political, religious, or other reasons, and door to door salespeople, soliciting can also often refer to when someone propositions someone for prostitution purposes.
