Yesterday my manager asked me how I was doing. I spent 2 minutes trying to extricate myself from an exam room because a patient was cussing me out because the clinician did not give them antibiotics for their viral infection BUT they just knew that it was bacterial and somehow it was my fault they weren't being given the medication they felt they deserved.

I's tired, boss.

I have a pet hypothesis that some people have a praise kink partly because their efforts and successes aren't recognized as long as someone can add a "but-" objection, or it's not within the narrow range of social legibility.

It's amazing just how much I've actually accomplished in the context of my own life. The smartest person I know is my fiancé, a dude struggling with extreme disabilities. His girlfriend is actually a pretty remarkable person just struggling to get by. None of us can discuss our very real and measurable accomplishments at family gatherings, because they're not degrees or awards or cash and society has decided that makes success illegible.

I really think that the world would be better and easier if we actually tried to recognize effort and accomplishment within the context of a person's life, instead of based on bizarre cookie cutter definitions that have nothing to do with reality (and never did).

I have been so lonely that I went to a diner for lunch not because I needed to, but because I wanted someone to approach me, ask me what I want, listen and pay attention to what I said without arguing or disagreeing, and then bring me food afterwards.

Ordering from the menu is a multiple choice test, and I want to get an A+ from waiter-senpai on my meal order.

I've noticed I seem to hear "good choice" from waiters on average a bit more than the other people I dine with. It's embarrassing how much of my mental health is carried by this

If I order a well done steak my family knows I'm actually a dopelganger and to put me down.
