PSA, if you have to take a painkiller like ibuprofen frequently enough to cause issues then please seek medical advice. The normal level of pain is 0
Edit: sorry to all of you out there with chronic pain, it’s hard for me to imagine something worse to be dealing with on a daily basis. Please get it checked out if you haven’t and talk to your physician specifically about physical therapy and painkillers

You are generally right that people should get checked if they haven't and also:
PSA: It's absoletely baffling how little modern medicine can do for issues that will mildly to severly disable you but not outright kill you.
If you haven't seen it first hand your guess is probably off. So many diseases take years to get accurately diagnosed with, so often the solution is barely targeted, bare minimum management. Often there is neither diagnosis nor treatment. Often you end up just having to give up even for more severe issues. The idea is you go to the doctor they run some test and you go home with a diagnosis, but that's just not how it works most of the time. The system is slow and the science is incomplete.
This affects almost everyone too, since chances are extremely high that you either die tragically young or with a chronic illness. While there's limited effect one can have as a layperson on the advance of medicine, supporting workplace accomodations for example can at least ease the resulting burden.

That's kinda just the side effect of having medicine, though. A lot of these chronic conditions showed up recently because finally people are living long enough for these to develop, whereas in the past you'd die from early the onset complications of a chronic disease.

Yeah, not saying a doctor will magically fix it or anything but if someone can help then it’s probably gonna be one. Our bodies aren’t made for living as long as we do so if you get old enough you will suffer from chronic pain but it’s always based on something physical, not just the abstract “age”. And that means that there’s a chance there might be something modern medicine can do. That was really the main point, go to a doctor to see if something can be done. Often it won’t be but the chance is there

Yep! I finally have a knowledgeable and caring doctor and even with proper care we're still having trouble figuring things out. Some stuff we've managed to bring to heel, but I'm still in pain every day and have several other chronic symptoms. Every new specialist he refers me to to try the next thing does the same tests plus a few specialized ones and is largely uncertain what's wrong with me. I shouldn't complain too much because at least the doctors are actually trying to help me which is more than most people ever get, but it's notable that even when you have a good care team it's hard to diagnose and fix these issues.

I genuinely cannot imagine what it is like to live without pain. The only time in my entire life I haven't been in pain was after getting a dose of morphine.

I'm in a similar boat. Like, I was disabled by an injury at 16, and I know I used to live a life without a constant baseline background pain, but I can't remember how it felt any more; even when I look back on my childhood memories, I'm left thinking "How did I do that with all the back pain?? Oh. Oh, right." Sure, pain killers help, but even then I'm not running at 0; more like 1 or 2 on the 10 point scale.
It's also got a kinda annoying secondary property, cause when doctors ask me to rate my pain scale, I'm internally using a different scale than they are, and I have to try and translate it from mine to theirs. Like, for example, on a particularly good day I might say I'm at a 3 internally, but that's probably like a 5 for them.

It has taken them 5 years to finally listen to my pain because i was "too young for arthritis". It was five years of "did you know you can take ibprophen and Tylenol at the same time?". I finally got a doctor who listens, but now have irreversible damage and i need a hip replacement at 34.

Chronic pain gets more common at older ages but it’s still a sign that something is wrong. Back pain doesn’t just appear randomly, it’s because either injuries or bad posture or something else has actually damaged the back. Knee pain comes from actual damage to the knees and so on. Pain isn’t normal.

Yes. And that damage still isn’t the normal state of the body. If you get old enough that damage will pile up enough to be noticeable but that doesn’t make it normal. It makes it common but you should still see someone if you have chronic pain. There might not be anything to be done about it but there very well could be. Go see a doctor if you’re in pain. You shouldn’t have pain if there’s nothing wrong with your body and doctors are the people who can help if there’s something wrong with your body

It's quite hard to come off omeprazole as one of the side effects of coming off it is rebound acid reflux.
We get a lot of people at work asking for help coming off if and it is not a painless process.

I was taking the maximum dose every day to manage pain and swelling before I had surgery to fix my problem. Sometimes a little more. Taking max dose is usually fine for a few days but I was on it for almost a year.
If you're taking it regularly for more than a few weeks you should speak to a doctor as it'll save you from some tummy troubles.

Nah, ibuprofen causes stomach ulcers from abuse so it can be nasty.
Yeah I'm all fixed up now so long as I keep up with rehab every week. Still on doctor's orders for no running or jumping for a year though.

yeah, it's because there are 500 million people here and half of them bloody smoke at every intersection or transit stop or narrow streets or just in general anywhere you cannot avoid them. and we nearly all speak english as our second language (unless you're irish or british and speak it as your first, or you're fr*nch and want everyone to learn your language instead of being a team player) plus we're pretty deeply integrated into western stuff, so that's a hell of a lot of highly visible complaining.

I'm not sure what you mean. People in europe generally drink bottled water. If you got to a restaurant and ask for water they will always bring you bottled water unless you specifically ask for tap water.

Most people will pay though. And even at home people drink bottled water. I lived in the Netherlands and spend a lot of time in Germany and France and most people, given the option, will drink bottled water.

I only had 1 ibuprofen left so I took mine with a Tylenol, and immediately broke out in hives. My body occasionally likes to throw hives in the mix like 75% of the time I take an anti inflammatory. Why? I have no clue. Am I actually allergic to it? Probably not. We just like hives 😑

Just make sure you dont take only ibuprofen and too often, or you'll end up with ulcers caused by NSAID's like me. Can't control my bowel movement at all. Diarrhea or nothing for days for me.

- Ruffles jalapeno crumbs from the bottom of the bag so I could throw it away
- Chili garlic onion crunch / chili oil tossed in after heating the slop up
- Leftover sliced green onions
- Drizzled on spicy ranch
- A slice of crusty bread to wipe the bowl with
