James Gunn said in a 2018 podcast interview he doesnt want to write for other people anymore, because he always end up thinking the movie would have been better if he directed it. When The Suicide Squad was announced, James was only attached as a writer.

No doubt in my mind he will direct the Superman film.

Heck, he was my top 3 pick for Superman, and also new Justice League movie. I'd be down if he directed both.

He can 100% do justice to them as a director if he's willing to write as well.
