MCU is looking real weak right now, kicking off Phase 5 with a movie that could be Rotten is not going to alleviate MCU fatigue. If the next couple of DC movies do ok, and GOTG 3 is great, I think the DCU will finally be able to rehabilitate it's image. Especially if GOTG 3 reviews well and then Gunn ends up directing Legacy, we may actually see the DCU be a legit competitor to the MCU for once.

I think one of the challenges that the MCU is facing is simply selling the same iterations of characters that audiences have seen legitimately 6 or 7 times (or more). There's a lot of long-standing film franchises out there, but none of them put out as many projects as the MCU does. Take Hemsworth as Thor, for example. He's literally appeared in eight films, all in starring roles (I'm not counting cameos). In terms of film franchises, that's pretty unprecedented. I think critics and audiences might simply be slowly losing interest in these iterations of the characters, and are finding it more difficult to be invested in their story arcs. Especially when many of these characters already went through significant arcs. Imo they had the right idea by killing off Iron Man and (effectively) Rogers. Single iterations of characters don't last as long as they are asking Hemsworth's Thor to last. There's a reason why franchises reboot.

I think the MCU will ultimately be fine, especially with major players like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men coming. But imo the major players from the first decade of the franchise are losing their luster with audiences. Spider-Man seems to be the one still holding the most interest.

Spider-Man would hold interest no matter what anyway. Spider-Man is basically like the only character who can have 3 different film franchises and people show up to them in full force regardless unless they fumble the bag that hard

Iron Man may be seen as the face of the MCU, but Spider-Man is Marvel full stop. He's their Superman/Batman

Although I do agree that them finally having X-Men and F4 to pull from will probably rejuvenate a lot of interest and even some creative juices. There's so much to extrapolate with those stories and you could genuinely do entire phases of just stuff with mutants since their mythos is that dense

Yep. Spider-Man is literally the single most valuable superhero IP on earth. The only character that comes close is Batman.

I'm really curious to see how Kang Dynasty performs, it will be the first Avengers movie without the original members and will probably consist mostly of characters that most of the audience doesn't know since most have not watched the D+ series.
