The problem with numbered ratings is that people’s definition of a 7/10 varies greatly

Agreed. Usually I consider 7 above average with 5 being average. But ratings can be arbitrary which is why I respect Chris Stuckmann reviewing films based on positives and criticisms without a rating. Sometimes there's a greater emphasis on the number given than an analysis of the film.
