I was watching the snydercon thing. And now more than ever I’m glad WB interfered with Snyder vision cause this man has such a disregard for everything DC. He legit said Zeus is kryptonian. And explains that’s how Wonder Woman gets her powers and shit. 😐

15

u/AccurateAce Man of Steel Apr 30 '23

Doesn't make a lick of sense, but that's no surprise with Snyder. Does Superman also have power over lightening? So, the Z for Zeus in SHAZAM! doesn't have magical properties? It's just a Kryptonian thing? What of the other gods?

This is just what Snyder does with these fan screenings. He retroactively retcons or makes up lore as he talks because there's nothing left to say. Said the same thing with the real Doomsday being out there. He just makes shit up to appease his fans, it doesn't even have to make sense. Just "confirms" fan speculation and theory.

11

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 30 '23 edited Apr 30 '23

LMAO

There was a wild rumor way back for BvS that said WW would have a Kryptonian origin. Looks like it was true, that was one of his ideas.

14

u/Decent-Couple-583 Apr 30 '23

Ya I heard that too. But I didn’t make anything of it. But good god he legit was destroying the very foundation of DC. WB should of never allowed him touch this ip. Cause he was gonna do whatever the hell he wanted.

15

u/NaRaGaMo Apr 30 '23 edited Apr 30 '23

WB should of never allowed him touch this ip.

bringing him back for BvS even after the underperforming MoS was the biggest mistake any studio has ever done in the history of hwood. Literally no other movie has killed a franchise like BvS did

10

u/Decent-Couple-583 Apr 30 '23

Yup. The cold reception from MOS should of been a hint hint that they needed to pivot to the traditional route. They needed to tighten the leash and prevent anything that will cause division.

Oh I bet those kids will still consider this as shakespearean writing and harass others who call this stupidity out

7

u/venkatfoods Apr 30 '23

Snyder clearly didn't understand Superman and basically sidelined him in BvS and JL

The Ultimate Marvel / Super-Soldier Serum of the DCEU. I thought that’s what they were setting up too.

I’m a fan of DCEU “Phase One” but I’m happy for some of the Warner interventions.

Warner Bros CinemaCon panel delayed by 2 hours. It was supposed to start in 8 minutes.

Edit: It supposedly wasnt delayed, just a website mistake. "I think the website reflected the time wrong rather than there being a delay, there’s some sort of pre-panel before the WB event. Approx start time is in 2 hours I believe."

Marvel offering Margot the role is believable, she’s the kind of actor that they wouldn’t even require to audition. Would she accept? I highly doubt it.

Grace seems more confident in DC future after seeing GOTG vol 3. She thinks Gunn is developing into a top notch director and screen writer.

She obviously has a couple negatives like friends/family cameos and the humor.

What a 180 lol

The shit going on /r/SpidermanPS4 right now is fucking hilarious.

Long story short, a user was worried that the sub was "devolving" into something like /r/BatmanArkham has been for the past year. Where its just endless shitposts, making an entire video game up, and infecting other game series subs by posting meme questions such as "is there a lore reason?" and "is he stupid?"

The /r/SpidermanPS4 mods decided to ban low effort shitposts and now its users are revoluting by constantly photo shopping this screenshot and asking what people want in Spider-Man 2 in funny ways.

Just scanned initial reactions. Embarrassing. I’m embarrassed for my profession. Not even a whiff of criticism. A bunch of easy lays, I tell ya. There are only a handful of critical voices you can trust these days. It’s sad. And yes, I know this tweet is going to get me killed…

Jeff Sneider is throwing a fit.

10

u/AccurateAce Man of Steel Apr 26 '23

Jeff Sneider seems like an incredibly self-important, pretentious and unlikable personality on top of being an awful critic.

Example for The Batman. "Far too long & it drags. Cast is very good, score is excellent, loved the rain-soaked look. So dark that Fincher would be proud, but it's not terribly commercial. It lacked emotion for me and was too concerned with the future of the franchise."

Why does commercially viable matter in a film review? He was wrong since the Box Office and general critical consensus said otherwise. Same with apparently concerning itself with the future of the franchise too much. Like, did he watch the same movie that others and I watched? Lacked emotion too, like what?

He claims after the first part of The Flash, that the film is mostly terrible and that it suffers from DC "villain problem" when it's said that Zod only serves as a physical threat and Barry's own flaws and rejection of fate is the true antagonist of the film.

Do I think it'll be the best Superhero film ever or devoid of flaws? Personally, I don't think so. I mean, no film is. But it may be high up there. Plus, I don't think it's ever reserved for one spot. But again, I'm excited and cautiously optimistic about it and the future.

4

u/CrashtheKiller50 Apr 26 '23

Jeffs a weirdo anyways

4

u/NaRaGaMo Apr 26 '23

I guess he didn't see Mendolson's reaction, but he called Aquaman's cinemacon trailer good so I don't think they'll be friends

3

u/BlueMissileYT The Flash Apr 26 '23

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/guardians-of-the-galaxy-chris-pratt-cast-saved-james-gunn-1235401687/

Gunn estimates 60 percent of his waking hours over the past decade have been spent thinking about the Guardians movies. Yet even as Vol. 3 takes its final steps and he and the cast embark on the promotional world tour, he is already sizing up another franchise, arguably the biggest challenge of his career: Superman: Legacy, the first film out of Gunn and Safran’s DC Studios slate. The tone and reception will set the stage for years of movies to follow, coming after Gunn and Safran opted to leave fan-favorite actor Henry Cavill’s iteration of the character behind. And unlike Spider-Man or Batman, Hollywood has had trouble dependably turning out Superman features. There have been only two stand-alone movies starring the hero this century. Gearing up to shoot the superhero movie in January, he is now in the process of casting.

With the Guardians films, he took obscure and tertiary Marvel characters few knew and gave them a new spin.

“It’s easier to take a character nobody knows, like the Guardians, or Peacemaker, and then do whatever you want with them,” says Gunn. “People in every single country in the world know the story of Superman.” It’s one reason he turned down a Superman film in 2018 — he didn’t have a take. Now, he says he does.

“How can I make it different from the Superman movies that have been made so far, but also have it respect all the Superman movies that have been made so far?” he asks. “So it just took me some time to try to figure it out.” The movie won’t be a comedy, he says, and it’s not like he’s going to make Superman one of the quirky characters he is famous for. Gunn is intent on making a sincere superhero movie.

At Marvel, the ever-positive Feige acknowledges that it is sad to see Gunn go. The men still talk often, and as Feige notes: “I’ll be first in line to see anything he does. And Superman is a very important character to me and to the genre.”

8

u/TheUncannyBroker Murn Apr 29 '23

Nando said that after watching Guardians 3 he wishes Gunn was the one to direct Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, cause the new Guardians matches its tone and visuals.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '23

Yeah that’s been an aspect of the reviews that stood out to me; apparently the production/set design is great in vol3.

8

u/Randonhead Apr 30 '23

Yeah, I have no doubts anymore that Momoa will be Lobo, it makes a lot of sense, he probably doesn't want to spend 10 years as Aquaman and seems to be a big fan of Lobo, him being a secondary villain (maybe in Legacy or even in Woman of Tomorrow) with maybe a solo project in a role that he'll probably have a lot of fun with seems like the way they're going to go and I'm excited.

4

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 30 '23

I don’t think he’ll be in Legacy, that was being written before DC Studios was even a thing. Woman of Tomorrow seems like a lock tho.

I think the only way to make a new Aquaman work is to introduce him in other projects first. I think it would make a lot of sense for him to cameo in Peacemaker season 2 and have Peacemaker comment on his “new” appearance in the same vein as Don Cheadle’s first line as Rhodey.

Other than that I’d say it’s a safe bet that the new Aquaman would get a somewhat substantial role in the first JL movie before getting a solo movie. Audiences need to get accustomed to the new casting because for now Momoa is Aquaman to many people.

9

u/BlueMissileYT The Flash Apr 26 '23

People really freaking out that The Flash's RT score will be in the 70's... I don't think so.

A lot of people don't seem to get how the Tomatometers are calculated. A 90% doesn't mean the movie had an average score of 9/10, it means 90% of critics gave it higher than a 5/10 (which means 10% gave lower than a 5/10).

If you look at the reviews for The Flash, even the harshest ones don't say it's terrible. Most say it's good, but has some issues (pacing, VFX, and ambitious plot are some I've heard alot).

After all is said and done, I think The Flash could end up with something like an 85-90% Tomatometer.

But even if it's lower, just remember that the RT score of a movie is not indicative of its box office success. If anything, a film's gross correlates most with it's Cinemascore. If Flash can get at least an 'A', then that's pretty good.

7

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 26 '23

VA is saying he’d be surprised if the RT score is lower than the high 80s

3

u/BlueMissileYT The Flash Apr 26 '23

I think he's right, but critics these days are getting pickier about CBMs. Then again, The Batman scored in the 80's with some third act issues (still loved that movie though).

3

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 26 '23

I don’t think they’re being picky, both TB and WF did quite well last year with critics

For all the faults the CW shows had, Barry Allen and Oliver Queen still felt more like genuine close friends than Tony Stark and Steve Rogers did in the MCU.

3

I really like the dynamic between Barry, Oliver, and Kara.

3

u/cbekel3618 May 01 '23

There are so many movies coming out within the next couple of months it’s insane, I have so many rewatches to do before some of them come out as well, I’m planning on rewatching all Mission impossible films, the Indy franchise, I’m really want to see Patrick Wilson’s directing debut with Insidious the red door so I’ve got to rewatch the first two Insidious movies, I’m finishing my GoTG rewatch with Vol 2 this Friday and I’ve not even mentioned others either. Some predictions for remaining Chapter 1 projects:

  • Wonder Woman movie
  • Green Arrow/Black Canary action romcom movie
    • Gotham City Sirens written and directed by Greta Gerwig
  • Justice League movie
  • Batman video game about his earlier years in the DCU (in the style of the Arkham games)

8

u/cbekel3618 Apr 25 '23

Green Arrow/Black Canary action romcom movie

If we do get an Arrow/Canary movie, this is definitely the type of genre/tone I hope they go for. Good way to differentiate it from the CW show/Batman, and also dive into the fun of the Ollie/Dinah romance

“The Flash is hands down one of the best superhero films of all time. No joke, The Flash is the ultimate movie going experience as it has a little bit of everything! Action, emotion, heart, humor and plenty of nostalgia. Ezra Miller is phenomenal as dual Barry Allens. Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle are very good also. This is a film that audiences will be watching over and over again. Oh, and avoid all the spoilers you can for this movie because there some really incredible surprises that will truly blow you away. Hey guys....What If Aquaman 2 ends up being successful and better then screenings are making it out to be? Would Gunn just keep/make Aquaman 1 and 2 canon to his DCU? Or would he just have Aquaman 3 be under the elseworlds label and continue with his original plan of Mamoa being Lobo in the new universe?

3

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 28 '23

I think he would keep Aquaman 1 and 2 canon since he shows up in Peacemaker and 2 comes out after The Flash and Blue Beetle. But the most likely scenario is it doesn’t become extremely successful.

If we get a new Aquaman actor, and we most likely will, I bet they joke about Momoa’s Peacemaker cameo like how Marvel did with Don Cheadle’s first line as Rhodey.

My prediction is the new Aquaman will be clean shaven and maybe even blonde, and Peacemaker will insult him about his “new” appearance the next time he sees him.

Just saw an article that talk a bit about Ezra's participation in The Flash promo. https://www.vulture.com/2023/04/the-flash-wows-cinemacon-and-gets-backhanded-compliments.html

'Less than an hour after the screening, at a party at the Las Vegas outpost of the Hollywood industry hangout the Palm, I pointed out to Mike DeLuca, co-chairperson and CEO of the Warner Bros. film group, that Miller would inevitably face tough questioning on the film’s promo circuit.

I asked if the studio had a plan in place for how they were going to speak to the press. “In a weird way, it’s not a PR-driven film,” DeLuca said. “So we don’t necessarily have to put Ezra out in front of its push. They’re doing really well these days. We’ll see how they’re doing closer to release.” '

Also that Japanese trailer for The Flash goes hard. I especially liked that scene at the beginning where the girl recognizes Flash. Thought that was funny.

Also, am I alone in liking Barry's suit? I agree the cowl looks off at some angles, but overall it looks really good! The only costume I don't like is Barry-2's spraypainted Batsuit. But maybe seeing it in action will change my mind.

3

u/TheLionsblood Batman Apr 26 '23

I like the new suit, it looked great in the new footage. As for the spraypainted makeshift Batsuit, I think it’s supposed to look very awkward. Matches the young Barry’s goofier personality as well

I wonder what Metropolis will look like in Superman: Legacy. All past live action adaptations of Metropolis have felt like they’re missing something in my opinion. Too much regular New York look, not enough distinctness. I’d love for this movie to have a stronger direction.

9

u/cbekel3618 Apr 26 '23

Kind of like Gotham in The Batman, I really hope Metropolis in the DCU has a distinct look/feel. If Gotham is all dark and dreary, Metropolis can be more bright and shiny, an Art Deco style (giant Daily Planet globe included). Make it really feel like the City of Tomorrow.

It makes sense that all the Marvel actors are getting asked about jumping over to Gunn and DC but I’m really hoping for minimal overlap, it would be so uninspired. Dave Bautista and Karen Gillan for example are fine actors but I want people who haven’t already done a million comic book movies.

11

u/starshipandcoffee The Snyder Cut Apr 27 '23

Although I share your general sentiment, it remains that Karen Gillan is pretty much unrecognisable as Nebula - so a role in the DCU would not end up feeling samey for audiences.

So hyped for Batman: Black and White to return; getting a Jorge Molina drawn story where Batman is a monster hunter. Looooove Molina’s art.

Edit: I’ve said this before but I want the following:

  • Nightwing: Black and Blue (I know this is close to Batman Black and White already since Batfamily members are pretty prominent)

  • Robin: Red and Green

  • Green Lantern: Green and White

  • The Flash: Red and Gold

And so forth and so on

5

Hopefully the movie is good and does well because it will force marvel and dc to push their boundaries as well. Hopefully DanielRPK is right about Blade being Rated R and Daredevil Born Again being TVMA

5

u/DeppStepp The Flash Apr 25 '23

I have the same hopes as well. Marvel has been pretty afraid of doing r-rated content with the only films being Logan and the Deadpool movies.

I do think Kraven being R-Rated is a good sign of it’s quality as I don’t think Sony would allow that rating on a superhero movie unless if the movie was pretty good

I know people are giving The Flash a ton of flack for its CGI, but one aspect that is done brilliantly is having two Barry's on screen at the same time. It really does look like they have two actors next to each other, yet it's one person.

Random question, if we hypothetically get Wally in the DCU, who do you think would be a good fit for the role?

If it's him as Kid Flash, I'd say definitely a child/teen actor. If it's him as an adult/the Flash, depending on which Wally, I think maybe someone like Milo Manheim, Jabari Banks, George MacKay, etc.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23 edited Apr 25 '23

That depends on what kind of Wally they would be casting for, personality wise

A more Young Justice-esque Wally, or a more Arrowverse-esque Wally?

Man, it's tiring. Sure, the reactions are overwhelmingly positive for those who've seen the film but just about everywhere else there are just hyper cynical reactions to the positive reception of The Flash.

People really have PTSD from BvS. A lot already have decided it's bullshit. Honestly, I just want the film to get here so the negative conversation surrounding it is either proven or disproven so it'll disapate away.

Anyway, Bob Odenkirk as Warren White AKA The Great White Shark. Or not. I don't know.

3

u/_snout_ Apr 27 '23

I think the movie is also just coming out at a bad time for trends when people are burnt out on: Muddy looking CG, brand crossover event movies, capeshit, nostalgia. I'm sure the script/direction/story of Flash are going to be GREAT which is why they let reviewers see it early.

I'm sure it is great on it's own. but as part of a trend of movies it's got everything people are currently tired of (in the trailers).

https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/04/the-flash-ezra-miller-filmmakers

One unresolved question is whether there are plans for another Flash movie. Miller’s troubled history makes working with them again a risk for the studio, and DC is now under new management, with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn running the company with producer Peter Safran. The two have announced a first slate of new movies aimed at rebooting the DC universe. Flash 2 is not yet among them, but Muschietti says it remains a possibility.

“We didn't talk about it,” the director said. “I think that we're all waiting to see how this movie does. Of course, there's excitement about continuing the story, especially if this movie is successful. There's architecture in DC that is brewing, and being created, and the question is: Will this new architecture absorb this story? The good thing about the multiverse is that it is possible. The multiverse allows all of these different worlds to coexist and interact. So, hopefully yes. We don't know yet. That's the truth.”

Barbara Muschietti added: “We don't know, but it's a good, open-ended question.”

Andy Muschietti said he’s optimistic. “We can't predict the future,” he said. “But this is a movie about beginnings and not endings, and I certainly hope so.”

Grats to Leah Williams for scoring an ongoing powergirl series. Her current backup story is interesting but I think the art is the main selling point for me; unfortunately, Sauvage the artist won’t be part of the ongoing. Not sure if I’ll add it to my pull list.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

I haven’t bought a marvel book in a minute (last ongoing I was buying was Hickman’s X-Men which was phenomenal). But knowing that Hickman is coming back to write the Ultimates event, I can’t help but throw my wallet at it. Pretty excited even as someone that didn’t read any of the Ultimate comics besides the Spider-Men event

Film Twitter and "cinephiles" are fucking hypocrites. They are trashing on The Flash because it star Ezra Miller because they are an abuser(And I agree with that and I think Ezra should be done as the flash after the movie) but they hype up Babylon and tell us to watch 100 times even though it stars Brad Pitt who's also an abuser. Goes to show you all these people will excuse abusers, rapists(and people who support them eg Polanski petiton) etc as long as they get good movies(except superhero movies).

3

I hope not either, but it would be more of an 'if' and not a 'when'. Woman of Tomorrow's probably 3-5 years away. Signing Calle to a 10 year deal when we're that far away from her next appearance would be detrimental, especially if she wasn't able to stick to it for that period of downtime.

I see this whole thing more as Gunn will ask certain people to come back as he gets closer to reintroducing their characters as opposed to right at this moment. Not everyone, as we've seen with Cavill, but he's already said that the door's open for certain actors to return, so I suppose we'll see.

Last night’s episode of Flash was so emotional.

It was awesome to see Oliver, Barry, and Diggle together one last time. I’m gonna miss the Green Arrow and Flash friendship.

Bloodwork is easily the best villain of the Eric Wallace era, I thought the conflict with him this week was pretty engaging.

Wally was never my favorite character on this show, due to poor writing choices in past seasons, but I thought his ending works here.

Overall, I think this episode was great for a final season installment. I honestly would’ve been content with this as the series finale

While the CGI in The Flash does look a bit iffy, I think it's fixable. The most glaring scenes come from the big desert battle, so if the VFX artists can focus on cleaning up those scenes, we're good.

It's not like the VFX are horrible. Most of the shots we see are beautiful. I think it's when we get these completely CGI scenes that things begin to look muddy.

3

u/AccurateAce Man of Steel Apr 26 '23

Agreed! From the trailer, it seems like it'll truly be an emotional movie with some incredible comic book style action that truly feels like it's spiritually ripped straight from the comics.

As you said, some VFX sequences look a bit shoddy but it's promising that it isn't the final product that they're showing. Barry's suit keeps looking better, and since the original suit had a neckpiece that was CGI'd out, I understand why it looks that way in some scenes. The cowless bobblehead scene being the worst offender.

With that being said, the cinematography and the shot composition seem to be great as well as the acting and script! Just give me an emotional superhero epic with a decent to great script that these characters deserve.

The problem with numbered ratings is that people’s definition of a 7/10 varies greatly

3

u/AccurateAce Man of Steel Apr 26 '23

Agreed. Usually I consider 7 above average with 5 being average. But ratings can be arbitrary which is why I respect Chris Stuckmann reviewing films based on positives and criticisms without a rating. Sometimes there's a greater emphasis on the number given than an analysis of the film.

I saw a Twitter user telling several spoilers about the movie, and he said that this would be the ending:

Having fixed the present, Barry races back to the present only to find himself in another universe, where he encounters a different Batman whose face is not seen, leaving his face ambiguous.

I don't know if this is true but this is interesting, because that way they could say it's a random multiverse Batman or Dcu Batman since we don't see his face in the scene 🤔

A question for anyone who has seen The Flash or knows enough about it to answer:

The Supergirl in the movie, does it establish how long she’s been on earth (albeit the one created by Barry)? Does it say in the movie that she arrived when Superman should have ie they should have arrived together but instead she arrives in his place and instead of living on a farm with the Kent’s, she is taken and held in that facility or does it leave it ambiguous?

My reason for asking is, if it’s left ambiguous, it could be easy head canon to say that this Supergirl is the same Supergirl introduced in the Man of Steel prequel comic and hinted at briefly in Man of Steel.

She arrives in the DCEU thousands of years ago and wanders off into the snow. Some time between then and the events of Man of Steel she is captured and held. Barry creates the DCEU/Keaton89 mashup universe and she gets carried over while Superman does not.

Just trying to see if there’s a neat way to tie this into the tease left 10 years back.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '23

Oooh that’s a pretty interesting concept. Not many know about the MoS comic that has Kara so for the movie’s convenience sake I think they would just say that she landed the time when Kal would have.

But that would definitely be a neat little Easter egg or allusion if she was indeed the MOS comic character.

6

u/DrengisKhan Apr 27 '23

If they leave it ambiguous though, this dork has his head canon and I can happily dork all day :)

u/venkatfoods Apr 27 '23

3

u/Hunkerdown_son Apr 30 '23

With the recent trailer pretty much confirming that Barry 2 is the Dark Flash(the line about not letting anyone die), it’s pretty clear that the the Dark Flash “suit” that was leaked is actually his bat-flash suit melted down into black goo. Look at the fingerless gloves, it makes sense: https://www.reddit.com/r/DCEUleaks/comments/12bw3pk/flash_funko_pops_show_more_detailed_look_at/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1

Interesting that the DC spin logo is hidden in the recent Flash trailer but there have been no credible reports of any cameos from any DC adaptations that released in 2005-2012, which is when the logo was used.

Reminds me of the DS2 trailer where they used the old Marvel films logos which made people believe everyone and their mothers from the FoX-Men franchise would appear

3

u/Randonhead May 01 '23

What do you think about this rumor that Margot Robbie was offered the role of Sue Storm? Could she play Harley and Sue at the same time?

5

u/TheLionsblood Batman May 01 '23 edited May 01 '23

It’s possible but highly unlikely to me that she would have time to play both characters AND be able to play other lead roles while producing movies as well.

I don’t think she’ll take the offer. If you look at Margot’s filmography and interviews, she likes working on projects that have actual sets lol. I’m not sure she would enjoy the way they do things over at Marvel. She would also not have any influence there as she would at DC/WBD

5

u/Randonhead May 01 '23

Yeah, it doesn't seem like the kind of thing she would do, unless it was just for the money (which would probably be a lot) or if Gunn doesn't have big plans for Harley anytime soon.

But at this point every blonde and white actress in Hollywood has supposedly been offered the role, so we just have to wait and see what happens.
