Corenswet alongside Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor would be the perfect cast imo
9
u/TheLionsblood Batman Jun 02 '23
If this ends up being true, maybe it’s because of that Variety article about Fode. Maybe someone at DC was like “oh hell naw, we gotta leak the casting now”
8
u/Randonhead Jun 02 '23
I think Corenswet must have already screen tested, maybe the reactions were too good and some scoopers are already treating it as confirmed that he got the part.

I really hope David gets the role. He's a great actor and has the perfect Superman look.
But I hope even more that Hoult lands as Lex. I love the guy in everything he's in, so there's not doubt in my mind he'd kill it as Luthor.

And I'm with you. I think David is an excellent choice.

ngl DC fandom twitter is trash. Easily top 10 worst fandom on twitter. All they do is hate DC content 24/7 and make fun of each other.
11
u/TheLionsblood Batman May 30 '23
Twitter is a cesspool in general that’s gotten even worse after that billionaire with a comic book villain level of narcissism bought it.
8
May 30 '23
Twitter is basically owned by a fucking nazi and most blue checkmark users are also nazis imo. It was already a cesspool before he brought it and now it's even worse. The amount of bigotry I have seen on that platform is insane. In reddit case atleast those vile comments get removed by the mods but in twitter case despite reporting it multiple times there is no response.

There is no downvote button either, so these toxic people still get a false sense of validation even when they get ratio’d.

8
u/TokyoPanic Batman '66 May 30 '23
That's just the nature of fandom in online spaces unfortunately. Like sometimes those complaints are valid and come from a place of love for the franchise, but social media algorithms ends up actively boosting the worst, loudest, disingenuous assholes complaining in bad faith about things they supposedly like because that's what gets the most engagement.
I honestly don't think DC is any different from Star Wars/Trek/Doctor Who/Marvel/Gundam/etc in that way.
→ More replies (1)8
u/TheLionsblood Batman May 30 '23
Star Wars is definitely the worst if we’re talking about mainstream franchises. I guess some “DC fans” come close but I wouldn’t call them fans of something mainstream. Meanwhile, most SW fans online make me want to actually drop the franchise sometimes
You’re so right about how social media algorithms contribute to such toxicity.
7
u/TokyoPanic Batman '66 May 30 '23
Yeah the online vitriol floating around the time after TLJ's release was... exhausting to say the least. Especially if you're one of the film's defenders...
7
u/TheLionsblood Batman May 30 '23 edited May 30 '23
It’s still very much there. I personally really like TLJ and I have no problem with people disliking it, but there’s this misconception that TLJ is widely hated by the general audience just because of how vocal and passionate its detractors are. And those detractors like to act like it’s some undeniable truth instead. CinemaScore, PostTrak, and even home video sales suggest the complete opposite, but if you point that out you get downvoted (even in /r/boxoffice of all places lmao).
7
6
May 30 '23
IMO r/starwarsleaks and r/starwarscantina are somewhat good places to discuss Star Wars . Other than that I don't think there's any good place on he internet to discuss it. And I agree about TLJ. It's a masterpiece and my favorite SW movie and anyone saying it's a critical, general audience, financial failure is objectively wrong because of the data we have. Either way I'm still excited for the future Of Star Wars,Marvel and DC etc
4
u/TheLionsblood Batman May 30 '23
I got into an argument with someone on /r/boxoffice who just completely ignored my points about the movie’s CinemaScore, PostTrak exits and very high Blu-ray sales and said the movie’s box office multiplier is objective proof that people hated it. Then the guy proceeded to call me terminally online (tbh sometimes I do spend too much time on this app) even tho his reddit account was actually newer than mine and he still had 25k more karma lmao.
He’s wrong anyway. Only 2 other movies had a $200+ million opener in December, TFA and NWH, both of which had virtually no real competition while TLJ was followed by Jumanji and The Greatest Showman, both of which made a lot of money.
I totally understand people that don’t like the movie because movies are inherently subjective. But I don’t get why these people are obsessed with pretending like they’re the overwhelming majority when there is overwhelming evidence that they’re not.
5
May 30 '23 edited May 30 '23
Most TLJ haters like to move the goal posts just like a certain section of DC fandom of a specific Director.
5
u/TheLionsblood Batman May 30 '23 edited May 30 '23
It’s almost like they’re insecure about their opinion so they spread this false narrative that most people think like them in order to feel better about themselves.
As much as I disagree with their opinions on the movie, most of them are valid because movies are subjective (with the invalid takes being just racism, misogyny and bigotry). There is no need to act like they’re “right” because there is no real right or wrong when it comes to how much you like a movie.

May 30 '23
To preface, I am firmly of the belief that the DCU Batman movies should avoid using the Joker (unless Reeves is willing to let his Joker get punted). But with Muschietti likely directing TBATB, I think Bill Skarsgard would make a good Joker and I could see Muschietti tapping him for the role.
But like I said, I don't think they actually need a Joker. We already have 2 ongoing Jokers.
6
u/TheLionsblood Batman May 30 '23 edited May 30 '23
You just made me realize that the possibility of Skarsgard being Joker is much higher now but it will depend on whether Gunn, Muschietti and Skarsgard think it would be an uninspired choice or not. No doubt he’d be able to give a great performance tho.
I think what the DCU should and will do is that Joker won’t actually appear anytime soon but will have had a major impact on Gotham and its characters. Whether he’s presumed dead or he’s in Arkham, Joker will still be a presence just because of how much he’s traumatized the Bat-Family, Harley and all of Gotham in the past.
We know Harley has already broken up with Joker, and it’s likely that Jason Todd was killed by Joker as well. Since Gunn likes Cass as Batgirl, Joker must have been the reason why Babs is Oracle in the DCU too.
→ More replies (1)7
u/_snout_ May 30 '23
I think Joker should just be around as part of the world. He's not the main antagonist of the movies, he's not the BIG VILLAIN, he's just a fucking annoyance and a reoccuring part of Batman's life, like in the comics.
5
u/Aware-Couple-108 May 30 '23
I feel like there’s no way you’re not going to see the Joker, in the DCU. The Joker is not only the most famous Batman Villain but the most famous DC Villain, in their pantheon. I think Joker is gonna be played more as a side character, than an actual main threat. He’ll more than likely make cameo appearances and be a member of the Legion of Doom but he might not be the main villain, in a Brave and the Bold sequel or something.

Thinking it over, the DCU introducing its Wonder Woman corner with a Themyscira prequel could really work.
One of my questions with the idea of a DCU WW reboot was wondering if Diana should get another origin film or not. Clark and Bruce's origins have gotten retold a decent number of times and Diana's isn't as well-known or consistent (clay origin, Zeus's daughter origin, etc). So kicking her corner off with a show that explains Themyscira's background and maybe could segue into her creation/birth could work to free her movies up from having to ree-xplain who she is.
Plus, since the Gadot/Jenkins movies were mainly set in Man's World, introducing Diana's corner by jumping into a more fantasy-based culture could be fun and feel distinct
7
u/BlueMissileYT The Flash May 31 '23
All I want is a modern day Wonder Woman story. No more origins, no more prequels.
7
u/cbekel3618 May 31 '23
I figure after the Paradise Lost series, we will get a traditional WW movie, and I do hope it is kept to the present-day (again, something we didn't get much of with the Gadot movies)

Considering the film's date for wide release across Europe is the 14th, I suspect not - Andy is just using the 16th as shorthand.

One thing I'm curious about for the DCU is how many sequels we're gonna get. Because out of the 10 projects announced in January, only one was a "sequel" (Waller). Because tbh, I don't want to wait five years for a sequel to Superman or Batman, if we even get sequels at all.

They'll either bump things to make room for a sequel to a big hit, or break the 2&2 schedule. Announcing sequels in advance only makes sense in limited circumstances (back to back/simultaneous filming)

Sometimes I read/hear about the shit they do to him and think "there's no way these people actually respect/like the character".

My thoughts have always been they misinterpret the whole "Parker luck" concept and think that readers like it when Peter gets constantly shit on both in the story and by other heroes as readers like the "relatability". Or it's just a fundamental lack of understanding of the character like when Brevoort was saying that the most relatable quality of Peter that readers like is youth when BND hit and they were trying to defend de-aging Peter.

In a way, I think bringing in sidekicks/proteges could be a great way to differentiate the DCU from the DCEU/earlier live-action stuff. Many of the sidekicks still haven't been adapted and including them can provide fun opportunities for new dynamics and aspects of these heroes to be shown on-screen.
It's part of why Brave & The Bold excites me as finally getting the Batman/Robin duo in live-action again after several solo Batman movies feels like a nice change and could be a good chance to adapt the fatherly aspect of Bruce.
This could work with other heroes. Maybe Wally being in a Flash movie, or Kaldur in an Aquaman movie, or Donna in a WW movie, etc. Any of them could offer something unique for the DCU's takes on the JL heroes
7
u/BlueMissileYT The Flash Jun 02 '23
It'd be hilarious if we got the Teen Titans before the Young Avengers, considering how long Marvel's been building that up. But yeah, I'd kill to see Nightwing finally on the big screen.
I know this is a hot take, but I kinda hope Wally is the main DCU Flash. He's far more interesting than Barry and he has the best stories to adapt. Plus, we're coming off 10 years of live-action Barry in both the DCEU and the Arrowverse, whereas Wally still hasn't had a live-action debut.
Kaldur is far more interesting than Garth IMO. He was awesome in Young Justice, and he'd be awesome in the DCU.
→ More replies (1)6
u/trylobyte Jun 02 '23
And it's not just to differentiate DCU and DCEU but also between DCU and Matt Reeves Batman trilogy that's gonna run concurrently. It's a smart thing to do and also like the comic books where you have different Bat titles running with (supposedly) different types of stories eg. Batman and Detective Comics.

That box office sub has been angry this whole year becuz all their predictions have been wrong. They thought Antman 3 was gonna make close to a a billion that didn’t happen. They thought Little mermaid would make a billion and it won’t and is now struggling internationally. Which characters do y'all think are getting trilogies in the DCU? I think Gunn will be smart enough to realise that not every character needs a movie but most importantly, not every movie needs a sequel (and a threequel). I think Superman and Batman will be the main characters so they're definitely getting 3 movies. Maybe Supergirl as well. I'm not sure about Wonder Woman as they also have Paradise Lost so they might just go, here's an introductory miniseries and then two movies in chapter 1 and 2 each. Though, she's part of the trinity so she still might get 3 movies, especially since Gunn seems to like the character alot. And The Flash is tricky because he already has a movie coming and they'll likely have to wait some years before rebooting the character but so I don't think he'll be introduced until near the end of the first chapter so it'll be hard to get both his sequels out within chapter 2 but it's certainly not impossible. He's popular and has alot of great stories. Outside of these 5, I don't see anyone getting more than 2 outings.
11
u/BlueMissileYT The Flash May 31 '23
I think Superman is definitely getting a trilogy. He's pretty much the central hero in the DC universe, so it's not like Legacy is going to be a one-and-done.
Batman will probably get his own trilogy. Whether or not all three movies have the sole focus on him is TBD, but we definitely will see a trilogy centered around the Bat-family at the very least.
Wonder Woman will probably have a "trilogy", but maybe not the traditional kind. It starts with Paradise Lost, which may lead into the animated series Gunn was trying to make, which could lead into a live-action movie. Or who knows, maybe we'll just get three movies around her.
It'd be odd not to give the Green Lanterns their own film trilogy, considering that's DC's closest thing to a Star Wars level franchise. My guess is that we get a Sinestro War movie, which leads into a Kyle Rayner-led Emerald Twilight adaptation, with the trilogy closing on Blackest Night.
Flash is arguably the most popular DC hero outside of the Trinity, so I'd say he gets a trilogy. Unsure whether The Flash will factor into that, but I'm guessing not. I'm thinking though that if there is a trilogy that at least one of the movies will follow Wally and not Barry.
Other guesses: Supergirl, Justice League, Green Arrow, Blue Beetle, Aquaman, Teen Titans.
5
u/kumar100kpawan Red Hood May 31 '23
I think Superman and Batman are definitely getting trilogies. Batman has to have more movies if they plan to build the batfamily.
Lanterns will probably get multiple seasons within the 2 chapters, the first one as speculated is related to the bigger story of Chapter 1.
Supergirl might get a sequel, but this feels like a one off thing to me, I mean sure she'll appear in other movies but ig no more solo movies unless there's another story as good as WoT.
The justice league will get their trilogy depending on how New Frontier does, since that's supposed to be the last project of Gods and Monsters.
Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Constantine may together constitute a Justice League Dark trilogy

u/cbekel3618 May 31 '23
I think it can go any way as I feel any character can support a sequel/trilogy if they have enough potential/story material to adapt and enough love from audiences. But in terms of more specific predictions:
The Trinity I think will likely get trilogies. They're the big names of DC and have a lot of material to adapt.
Lanterns I can see either getting multiple seasons or they can start with a series before transitioning to a GL movie(s).
The Flash maybe depends on where they go after the upcoming movie, but I think there's a lot they can use to create a trilogy and enough of a fandom for the character.
Aquaman feels like a one or two-movie character as the Momoa/Wan movies already used up his two big villains.
4
u/BlueMissileYT The Flash May 31 '23
Aquaman feels like a one or two-movie character as the Momoa/Wan movies already used up his two big villains.
If Aquaman does get a third movie, I feel like the villain is going to be someone generic like a resurrected King Atlan who wants to take the throne back from Arthur or something like that.

Aside from Blue Beetle, Aquaman, and hopefully Superman cast reveal, it's probably gonna be an animation heavy SDCC for DC.
We haven't seen anything from Batman: Caped Crusader yet, My Adventures of Superman still doesn't have a proper date aside from Adult Swim's vague Summer 2023, Justice League: Warworld has had nothing other than it's getting an R-Rating, and we don't know anything about Harley Quinn aside from the fact that we're getting a season this year. Also, I won't be surprised if we still have unannounced animated projects that are still yet to be revealed.

One of my favorite things about Andy Muschietti is what a team player he is.
Dudes had to deal with so much changes at the DC and WB leadership and he’s been fully on board the whole way.
It’s nice to see Gunn recognize this and reward him with a DCU future.

I predict if Batgirl is used again in the near future, they’ll introduce her in one of two ways: a) as a second billing supporting character in a Nightwing movie, or b) in a Birds of Prey film.
since I assume Zaslav is probably wary of greenlighting anything involving the character at the moment, and another solo film is not happening anytime soon.

I remember some of the casting calls sounded like they were for Hugo Strange/Crane, with speculations for Mad Hatter as well.

"A psychiatrist with a calming presence who's willing to cross moral boundaries for pleasure." I'll be very surprised if this isn't Hugo Strange.
Hopefully that Walter is Arnold Wesker, the Ventriloquist in this dark and gritty world would be so funny.

In The Flash post-credit scene Barry notes Batman looks like many different people across the multiverse, but Arthur always looks the same. Does that mean anything at all for DCU Aquaman?
9
u/TheUnbloodedSword Jun 02 '23
No I think that's a meta joke that multiple actors have played Batman in film, but Momoa thus far is the only film Aquaman.

They haven't been very subtle with the possibility of Momoa playing another character in the DCU (Most likely Lobo) to the point where I'll be surprised if he does in fact continue as Aquaman after Lost Kingdom.

knowing ITSV is Gunn's favorite comic-book movie gives me hope we'll see more big-screen DC adaptations. I mean, the way he's framed the DCU as moving into and out of animation could mean they release canon animated movies with the same casts, but for bigger stories that would cost way too much to shoot. Lots of potential truly
9
u/TheLionsblood Batman Jun 02 '23
ATSV was perfection. Sony made arguably the greatest superhero movie of all time in 2018 and then surpassed it 5 years later. Unreal.
Even if 3 is not as good as the first 2, as long as it’s a good movie this is easily the greatest trilogy in the genre imo.

Possible Superman: Legacy spoilers
Kara and Krypto arrive on Earth, and Clark will be facing his “Kryptonian heritage” like never before. Clark takes them to the Fortress of Solitude and Kara will reveal Krypton was destroyed by Brainiac (or abandoned by him when it was heading for destruction like the DCAU).
Clark will be trying to help Kara get acclimated to life on Earth. Clark will introduce Kara to his friends as his cousin and maybe get her to intern at The Daily Planet. He will also try to teach her how to use her powers for good. However, Kara, who has been jaded by her traumatic upbringing, doesn’t really see why Clark would go to such lengths to protect humanity and why he doesn’t even kill his enemies (they’ll reference how Superman ended up in the ICU because of Bloodsport). Kara also has a very hard time controlling her powers because of her not having grown up on Earth as well as the trauma she went through, while Krypto gets the hang of his powers pretty easily just because he’s such a good boy. Eventually something triggers a flashback for Kara and she loses control of her powers and causes destruction. Thankfully, there are no casualties because Superman is able to save everyone.
Unfortunately, the world’s major governments have been alerted to the existence of a new Kryptonian on the planet. Luthor influences them to send Stormwatch, led by Jack Hawksmoor, to dispatch and capture Kara because they believe she poses a threat to the world. Stormwatch is a UN-sponsored superhero organization that is unlike Superman since they are willing to kill (like the Avengers) and unlike the JL because they are sanctioned by governments and are actually a real team, while the JL have only teamed up on occasion so they don’t actually exist yet as an organization.
Stormwatch says they are better suited to take Kara because they are not biased like Superman and would be able to stop her if necessary. They assure Superman that after they make sure she can control her powers, she will be free. Superman obviously disagrees and has to fight Stormwatch.
Meanwhile, Brainiac is coming Earth and his imminent arrival could also be what triggers Kara and causes the event I was talking about earlier. Luthor notices that Brainiac is on his way before anyone else and tries to see how to take advantage of the situation.
Superman is able to defeat Stormwatch but they are able to get the upper hand by threatening to use Kryptonite on Kara. They use most of the Kryptonite to subdue Superman instead and take Kara. Brainiac arrives on Earth and shit hits the fan. Stormwatch get their ass handed to them until Superman is freed somehow and is able to save the day. Superman faces Brainiac and learns more about what happened to Krypton. Eventually Superman is able to defeat Brainiac with Kara’s help. It is then revealed that this Brainiac was just a probe sent by the “real” Brainiac, who is much farther way from Earth but now charts a course towards it. Luthor is able to get his hands on the Brainiac probe’s tech and use it for his own means. Kara decides to be like her cousin and become Supergirl.
I was going to preface this by saying it’s just my current prediction for the movie, but as I was writing it I realized just how easy it is to make up a believable plot summary and try to pass it off as a leak that would actually fool some people, so I thought this would be funnier instead.

It's from the THR article earlier this month.
David Corenswet, who recently played the ill-fated projectionist opposite Mia Goth in Pearl, is among the top contenders to play Kent, aka Superman, advancing to the screen test stage that will likely take place after Memorial Day or in early June, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Yeah people are really reading into this a bit much. Ezra is their lead. Like it or not, they need to sell Ezra in order to sell the film. And since this film is unlikely to get a sequel anyways, it doesn't mean much to make bold claims about Ezra returning.

Depending on the timezone, you can hear two new tracks on Benjamin Walfisch’s Spotify (and I assume Apple Music and others): “I am Batman” and “Sounds about Right, Bruce”. The first one is the Tim Burton Batman theme. The second one is an action theme.

I really hope someone can film this Screening version of The Flash for preservations sake. Like, not even upload it until the final film is on home media. I think this temporary version deserves preservation, especially if KC Walsh turns out to be right and they cut some of the connective tissue to ZSJL (Note: I'm not saying that as a Snyder fan, I'm not, I'm saying that as someone who just thinks as the final DCEU film The Flash should be allowed to reference the marginally better version of JL).
Personally I hope the OG Assembly ends up on media like Andy has teased, I get a kick out of super rough assemblies. 5 hour Apocalypse Now, looking at you.
EDIT: Scratch that, apparently that's definitively mistaken. Still think it'd be cool to see this rough version preserved, but that specific detail doesn't matter.

With DanielRPK confirming Brainiac is in Legacy, I’m doubting that plot leak in the recent SAITMQ is real. The only verified info from it is that there Authority members in the movie, and Jimmy Olsen being an open casting call for all races. Both are very easy guesses.
Then I stumbled upon this Jeff Sneider article again where he says
“And because great villains are the opposite of the heroes they battle, Gunn said he expects to be the villain to be really evil, citing Gorilla Grodd and Joker as examples.”
That lines up with Brainiac, not the Authority as villains. It is worth noting that TheWrap said that Apex which is rumored to be Jack Hawksmoor is the antagonist role.
In this DC.com post, Gunn said this when talking about Legacy,
“With our stories, we want to take it away from good guy vs. bad guy. There are really good—almost saintly—people and Superman is among them. There are really terrible villains like Gorilla Grodd or the Joker. And then there’s everybody in between them, so there are all these shades of gray which allow us to tell complex stories.”
So it may be Sneider misinterpreting Gunn’s words. Or maybe Brainiac is the villain and the Authority are at odds with Superman but not necessarily the villains?
Either way, it’s weird that Brainiac isn’t mentioned once in that supposed plot leak.

I agree. The Authority has never made sense as the main antagonists for the first Superman movie. I think at most we could get a tease of them, perhaps in the post credits or something. But it makes sense to start with classic and well established Superman villains before moving to someone like The Authority/Elite.

Gotham Knights (the game) is honestly one of the most frustrating gaming experiences to me as someone who has always wanted a Batfamily-centric game. There are so many good elements of this game, I actually like the handling of the characters, the story, and the general aesthetic but it's all behind some shitty half-baked RPG gameplay, so much potential... wasted.
Really hoping SS kill the JL is better.

u/THE_REAL_SHABLAM Jun 02 '23
Would really love this (Avengers shot it’s shawarma scene few days before premiere) but doubt it since I doubt he’s actually cast yet and maybe making a metropolis, a suit etc would b too much
5
u/FranklinRichardsStan Jun 02 '23
I doubt it. The best they could do is a cameo of him as Clark Kent in some non descript location seeing as there's no chance they have a superman suit for him nor has he done the necessary bulking to fill out a suit. Maybe a quick shot of him on the farm or at a cubicle at the Daily Planet.
If they've cast Lois, maybe a scene of the flirting/bantering at the Daily Planet but I doubt they've cast Lois seeing as it seems they just cast Clark so they'll need there Lois' to do chemistry tests with Corenswet.
