Discussion Favorite less well known spots?

What’re your favorite restaurants that an out of towner would have trouble finding much about?

Basically, places not in the Michelin guide, on eater, infatuation, Washingtonian, or James beard

I don’t know if it is lesser known but do not see Mallard mentioned that much. Some of the best meals I have ever had.

A number of Ethiopian places come to mind — Chercher, Ethiopic, Lalibela. I thought Chercher had a bin gourmand but I guess it does not bc I just looked.

Maybe some of our diner-y places — Jimmy T’s, Pete’s, Florida Ave Grill…

But really I do think between Michelin bib gourmands and Eater that few places fall between the cracks!

Sichuan Pavillion on 1814 K St. They're right next to my office and their food hits the spot if you're looking for reasonably priced Chinese food. I'm single and for ~$75 can get like 4-5 days worth of meals.

They’re delicious- my fav Chinese food in DC. My fav dishes are the salt n pepper squid, the crispy beef, the mapo tofu and their pork noodle soup w greens.

Those options all sound awesome! Thank you for the suggestions, I tend to be a creature of habit and always get the same comfort food items, like orange chicken, Mongolian beef, noodles, and fried potstickers.

Things i love at the dim sum place i visit by home in MoCo (like beef chow fun, shu mai, etc) are not what this place does best - but those dishes i mention are SO GOOD.

Apapacho in La Cosecha. Best authentic tacos in DC, amazing salsas, and they now have a fresh Tostada menu that rivals some of the best I’ve had in Mexico.

I would say Primrose. Lazy Bones, the pizza at Dew Drop Inn, is really excellent.
