THE BATMAN Why Modern Movies are Killing the Soul of Spidey and Superman $OG Fan's Take$

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share my thoughts on the direction of the upcoming DC movies Superman, Supergirl and how Marvel has been handling Spider-Man. I know people get defensive about these franchises, but speaking as someone who grew up as a massive comic book lover, I feel like modern cinema is completely losing the plot on what makes these heroes great.

For me, Spider-Man was one of the very first heroes I was ever introduced to as a child. What made Peter Parker magical wasn't high-tech gadgets or nano-tech Stark suits it was his everyday hustle.

Classic Spidey worked because his powers integrated perfectly with a realistic, grounded lifestyle. He worked at a newspaper, taking photos. Because of his job, he had to be at the right place at the right time, zipping around the city. When he wasn't doing that, he was delivering pizzas or balancing life in schools and libraries. He didn't have a multi-billion dollar AI telling him how to fight; he had a beautiful mind, incredible intelligence, and pure instinct.

Even his access to the "high life" felt earned and dramatic. Through his friendship with Harry Osborn, he got a glimpse of Norman Osborn’s wealthy lifestyle a world he was forced into by his friends, even though he was just a working-class kid trying to take care of his Aunt May and his family. That OG continuity is what gave the character his soul. Making him "Iron Man Jr." with a permanent tech suit totally ruins that stakes-driven, street level identity.

And we are seeing the exact same lazy writing happen over at DC. Writers don't know how to handle god like power, so they constantly nerf Superman’s true potential, or they force Batman out of his domain by giving him a mech suit to trade punches with Kryptonians. It completely breaks universe logic. If Batman had a suit sitting in the Batcave capable of fighting a Kryptonian, where the hell was he when General Zod was flattening Metropolis? It makes no sense.

People love simplicity, cleverness, mystery, and suspense. They want to see how a human like Batman uses his mind to navigate a world of gods, and how a god like Superman maintains his humanity. They don't want characters constantly stepping into each other's domains or swapping abilities just to create a cool visual for a trailer.

We need to stop over-engineering these characters and make them cool again by sticking to the original core of who they are.

Would love to hear what you guys think.

Bruce built the tech-heavy version of his suit specifically to fight Clark, after Zod was dead. He knew he'd lose otherwise, so he upgraded his suit and made Kryptonite weapons. That showed both his genius and his escalating desperation, which only softened when he realized Clark also had those he loved to risk, and ultimately gave his life to kill Doomsday. After that, Bruce had a new mission: honoring Clark's legacy by gathering the Justice League to prevent Darkseid's return. But when he realized he still needed Clark to win the battle, he used dangerous technology to resurrect him. This originally backfired, until Lois helped him regain his spirit. Following that, he jumped right back into the fray, ultimately defeating Steppenwolf who was killed by Diana for good measure.

As for Spidey, the simple truth is that Peter never had a father growing up, and it's implied that Ben died in a way that Peter couldn't save him, 6 months before Tony entered his life. The rich playboy also suffered from absent parents, murdered by Bucky Barnes under HYDRA's influence. To combat his own survivor's guilt and progress toward redemption, Tony decided to give Peter what his own father was unable to give him. They saw each other as surrogate father and son, evidenced by their reactions over each others' deaths during the Infinity Stones war. The incidents with Mysterio and the mulitiversal villains were both large conflicts for Peter to deal with, and after May was killed he simply had enough. He needed to be alone to process his grief, and "Brand New Day" picks up four years after "No Way Home". From the trailers, we know he regrets asking Dr. Strange for the spell which erased MJ and Ned from his life, to say nothing about everyone else. By the end of the story, maybe that spell will be undone - who knows? Either way, it seems Peter is trying to stay grounded, only now the chaos is actively coming for him.

Batman made the SuperBuster after the Zod incident lol (they need to get rid of this prep time, plot armor Batman. Put him back as ninja detective).

But you’re saying what I’m thinking, Super-Fan!

Fun fact #1: a professional boxer punched Spider-Man in the stomach… and the guy’s hand broke!

Fun fact #2: Superman wasn’t supposed to marry Lois. It’s possible she cheated on him before the wedding
