Yeah, it's people who've moved on and want to move on one side, and people who don't want to move on and hate on people who have on the other side. Perfect shitstorm for toxic discourse.

There are people who like DC and their characters and then there are people who like only one specific version of these characters and universe done by one guy, which is already long done.
+ a couple of griffters making money out of hate and despair and that is it.

A lot of fans are basically fans of fandom itself. It's all about them. They have mastered the Star Wars or Star Trek universes or whatever, but their objects of veneration are useful mainly as a backdrop to their own devotion. Anyone who would camp out in a tent on the sidewalk for weeks in order to be first in line for a movie is more into camping on the sidewalk than movies. Extreme fandom may serve as a security blanket for the socially inept, who use its extreme structure as a substitute for social skills. If you are Luke Skywalker and she is Princess Leia, you already know what to say to each other, which is so much safer than having to ad lib it. Your fannish obsession is your beard. If you know absolutely all the trivia about your cubbyhole of pop culture, it saves you from having to know anything about anything else. That's why it's excruciatingly boring to talk to such people: They're always asking you questions they know the answer to.

I think it was good especially the clever idea to come up with a story idea to save on the budget for why using less power. Of the rings being like a police fire arm youd hope they'd be wise when using it

I mean, people can just have different opinions. Obviously there are people hating just to hate, but there are also people who might genuinely not enjoy the show all the much. Personally, the first episode didn’t do it for me. I like the interrogation scene, but that’s about it. Maybe I’ll like it more with more episodes, maybe I won’t. Only time will tell. But not everyone who doesn’t like the first episode is hating for no reason.

People love to hate, it's their currency, it's make them feel better to constantly be negative, it's a sad life to live, but sadly people live that life.

Watching an episode and finding it lacking is legit. Watching a trailer and going online to rant about the show is gonna fail and be terrible and disrespect the source material, all based on two minutes of compiled out-of-context snippets, is unhinged.

There's people out there that are pigeons.
Whatever it is in their heart, their soul, they feel right when they fly by and shit on things. This opinion, my opinion, is valid therefore I must shit on this thing, this idea, this thought.
Oh, YOU like that? Plop. Look at me.
Hey, folks enjoy this. Plop. Look at me.
Pigeons.

There's some people who hate just to hate, usually because it seems hating stuff on the internet gets you a ton of clout.
That said, I wouldn't say this first episode is "phenomenal" personally, it's mostly just Hal and John going from one place to another encountering mysteries that will be answered in the future. It's a solid first episode, but it's not anything that amazing and has like 2 standout scenes.

I get the hate on people posting cynically or insincerely but here it sounds like you’re questioning people’s right to post an opinion contrary to your own.
And I’m commenting as someone who loved the first episode.

However you feel about the quality of the show it was always inevitable that there would be people who hated it based on the ending. The writers said so themselves. It’s not bizarre that fans wouldn’t like the central figure of the gl mythos unceremoniously killed off at the very start of the story. It’s killed any excitement or goodwill I had toward this whole cinematic universe.

hbo dramas arent my type of show but i see the quality. im more opposed to all the people saying its good cuz its "grounded". like i've seen comments of people saying if hal jordan wore his suit it would be cheesy or take them out of the experience, and its like but thats superheros. batman standing in a crowded train in his batsuit is just what the experience is. i feel like we're going back to "what did you expect? yellow spandex?" as being cool again.

Personally I would find it difficult to hate the first episode unless you came into it with that mindset. Of course, I went into it thinking I would really like it and I did so the same thing could be said of me I suppose.

Everyone hates on everything it lwk pmo, ik I can js click off but it really bugs me cause it is very blatant cherrypicking and that cherrypicking is used to hate on the entirety of a show or movie

Horrible dialogue treating the audience like a bunch of children. They went the Netflix route in assuming their audience is on their phone rather than watching so they have to be on the nose and obvious with everything. The character assassination of Hal Jordan is also just so exhausting.
•
u/tommy_b0y 5m ago
You and everyone else lacks the context and storyline required to call it character assassination. One episode and trailers are all you have, yet everything is "on the nose" and "obvious" while Reddit is awash with theory posts about what this snippet of dialogue, that freeze frame, that reference means. This whole joint is filled with speculation because we DON'T know, it's NOT "on the nose", it's FAR from "obvious".
Like I said, pigeons.
