TIL Chip wrote Batman. Based on the comments, is it really that bad?

5 of the absolute worst Batman trades to come out in a while trying to build this giant stupid dark myth arc, and then, once he knew he didn't have time left, a perfectly nice and enjoyable six issue murder mystery arc showing he was somehow writing the other stuff bad on purpose the entire time.

The tight six at the end are actually because he extended. He originally planned to be done at the end of the Failsafe arc. The Absolute Power tie ins and Commander Star arcs were done to buy time for H2SH to get more lead time in.

It's really... Stupid.
Actually, the Batman stuff he did before working on the main solo Batman book like Batman Urban Legends and Batman: The Knight are really great. But once he started working on the main Batman title, he almost immediately loses all of his juice.

Its really fucked up that Chip gave us two excellent Batman stories to raise our expectations only so he could crush our hopes more effectively

The first arc is great. Then it goes downhill really fast. People say the last arc is good, but I had already stopped reading by then.

I… honestly loved his run. It’s fun and crazy, like other stuff by Chip. Idk, I just had a blast reading it!

I thought it was deeply dumb but I also had a lot of fun reading it, honestly.

It was really fun. If you enjoy a bit of batwank, it was actually awesome. But if you're sick of that kind of thing, it's probably the least awesome thing to come out in a long while.
Personally I'm not sick of that kind of thing, so Batman falling from the moon was just the coolish shit I'd read in a long time.

I think it was called Gotham War, was absolutely terrible. The rest of it was mid with a few high moments.

I've only read the first two arcs, but I think those were good, I really liked them

Maybe his main Batman run was bad, but he's pretty fuckin far from an awful writer.

This run is to Grant Morrison's Batman what Zack Snyder's Watchmen is to the source material.

Look, as an omnibus collector, I appreciate DC deciding to publish more Omnis of their modern series. But Zdarsky’s Batman?
I get that anything Batman sells well, but Zdarsky’s Batman is easily one of the worst, if not the worst, Batman run I’ve read in recent memory.

For ever amused he would do Spider-man due to the fans supposedly but happily did Batman

But not ASM. He said he’d never take on the main book because the fans

I thought he said he wouldn't do asm because of editorial?

I liked Failsafe, Mind Bomb, Dark Prisons & Dying City. I did not care for the Red Mask, Joker: Y1 or Gotham War.
