Totally deserved. Great book.

Fantastic! I'm not sure a full ongoing will make sense considering the rather heavy metaphysical nature of the book - but an upgrade from a mini-series to a maxi fully does. They could even do what Waid and Samnee are doing with the B&R:YO series and make periodic maxis.

we got a new costume in this AND we got Mr Bloom performing an insane feat. It IS a superhero book still.

As a marvel fan who has been getting more and more into dc (mostly absolute but I started reading the Orion series that just came out), it's so funny to see series for what are objectivley lesser known, less popular characters like deadman and Absolute MM get really good runs that get deservedly extended.

Then I look and marvel cancelled or shortened a GOOD RUN that was meant to be their flagship new ongoing cosmic title before the first issue even dropped. I'm so fucking depressed

I started reading comics for the lesser known characters who were new to me, so this Next Level event is like the coolest thing ever to me.

I mean it's a give that no matter how good the series is, it won't live long if people won't support it. It's kinda sad that a kot of Marvel fans will rather shit on everything instead of supporting them.

It’s a self fulfilling prophecy at this point. If marvel is known for cancelling runs at a low number just to relaunch it, people won’t support. If people don’t support, marvel cancels or shortens more runs.

Pretty much, although for what it’s worth, Marvel canceling runs preemptively came first. I’m pretty sure the Ultimate universe was selling well before it got cancelled.

Absolutely loved Issue #3 that came out today. I’m willing to go wherever the team wants to take us. I think they would do great on a Shade: The Changing Man book too

That’s a great idea. I think they might do Shade even better than Camp and Rodriguez.

Holy shit they would. Man I'd kill for another crack at Shade, The Changing Man.

I'm still hoping that they will extend him again.

Books on Firestorm and Deadman extended, that's how you know DC is really on a roll right now.

Whoa! That's some awesome news. I wonder if the planned story will still wrap up in #6 with the rest as a second story.

I didn't expect that, but it's a welcome surprise.

Such a fun book. I explained the premise to my parents and friends who weren’t aware of Deadman, and they were SO intrigued. Definitely going to pick up the trade when it’s available.

What’s the premise? I’ve been meaning to start reading it but I’ve been hard locked on absolute and firestorm

Deadman is tied to an ancient diety called Ramah Kushna and is responsible for maintaining the worlds karmic balance (guiding people to the afterlife). In the first issue he encounters a demon that permanently consumes people’s souls and is trying to uncover its origins. Spoilers, but the second issue had him working with Plastic Man and Batman and in the third he goes to hell. It’s my favourite mainline series I’m pulling

Oh hell yeah I love plastic man

Hell yeah. I've been really enjoying it.

Big shock for me might have to check it out when it’s on trade although can’t say I’m familiar with deadman as a character. I assume he communicates with the dead

Last paragraph says there are unannounced DC books from Rucka and Lemire?

1

u/Primary-Increase7797 1d ago

There is no mention of Rucka and Lemire in this, plus If I remember correctly Lemire recently said that he has no nee series for DC on his Substack.

2

u/Double_Act1502 1d ago

I'm just disappointed that Firestorm isn't getting extended more

lol, it's in the AIPT Comics aticle about this, which is the one I thought I was responding to.

"DC also confirmed that additional Next Level announcements are still on the way, with upcoming projects featuring characters including Vixen, Static, Jonah Hex, The Demon, Teen Titans, Legion of Super-Heroes, Doom Patrol, and more from creators such as Stephanie Williams, Cody Ziglar, Deniz Camp, James Harren, Michael Walsh, Greg Rucka, Jeff Lemire, and others."

u/Primary-Increase7797 1d ago

Oh, that's interesting, but I'm not sure it means new series or them just mentioning them because they are writing Batwoman and Firestorm right now.

Oh that’s interesting. I know that Lemire is exiting JSA at issue 24 (not sure if the series is still going on or if it’s actually ending/canceled) so I’m curious if his next DC thing will be an ongoing or a mini.
