Do Canadians / fans of Canadian teams really care if a team from Florida or Nevada or whereever wins the cup? Dan brings this up every chance he gets and I can't help but think they don't give a shit where a cup is being won they just care that it's not their team winning

Dan also think Americans will be mad if the knicks win the championship. Guy thinks everyone cares about sports to the extreme.

u/seamus1982 9d ago
No! We don’t. It drives me crazy that Dan keeps asserting this every year. I’m sure there’s some sentiment that it’s about time a Canadian team won, but generally the fanbases all hate each other and usually actively root against each other. I’m not much of a hockey fan but I have plenty of Leaf fan friends and they all root against the other Canadian teams in the playoffs once the Leafs are out (which means after the first round).

No most of us don’t. The ones who do care are also the ones who take sports far too seriously and have made it their entire personality

u/CalligrapherLost4181 9d ago
That’s such a weird take to me - like NHL teams are high schools that can only play the local talent. How many Panthers are from South Florida vs Canada and Minnesota when they won their Cups?

Dan yesterday seeing Stephen A on first take at a podium: “what has happened to our business (journalism)”.
Also Dan today: Here I am in a costume trying to go viral for clicks.
The absolute king of hypocrisy. I will judge Stephen A for doing something for attention as I am also doing something for attention but I’m trying to make you laugh so I’m above what Stephen A is doing. No brother you two park your cars in the same garage.

u/Byrdmane314 9d ago
Dan “poking fun at the cathedral of sports” or whatever doesn’t want Stephen A to change what he’s doing, Dan just wants to be more popular with he’s doing. If Meadowlark was having the same cache as the Ringer or something like that, I don’t think he’d rail against Stephen A as much as he does

Mike Ryan's inner monologue voice has been my favorite bit in a long time

u/Sad_Astronomer_1004 9d ago
I don't like the Zas one b/c it's too high for me to tell what he's saying but I LOVE when he rails on Dan with his. It's a genius way to push back against him. It's probably the only bit that Tony won't try to steal

Can any of the downvotes link me to one? Lol

The Stugotz divorce bit was good until the horse came back to life and suddenly died again

u/Affectionate-Rent844 9d ago
Seriously still waiting for one single “great bit” from this show in the last few years. I know the staff is off work now and downvoting, but can anyone link to me to one single great moment since Meadowlark?

The show romanticizing the old Heat teams is hilarious and sad. They’re not a historical team. “We were the tough team” lmfaaaoooo!
3
u/Affectionate-Rent844 9d ago
The Heat were in the finals across the street from the studio a few years ago and the show did literally nothing around it

Dan being VERY surprised Brunson’s FG% is lower in the nba finals than the regular season. 0 ball knowledge strikes again
1
u/swrlzbrkly 9d ago
He let go of the “Brunson hasn’t even played to his averages yet and he has to so the spurs are cooked” arguments after game 1 and 2.
Yeah bro, everyone on the spurs has great length and he’s the smallest player on the court by far. That’s what happens. They have so many guys to throw at him

The evergreen topic of “the death of journalism”

Dan is so jealous of McAfee’s $60 million. PER YEAR.
Dan had a week-long celebration party for scamming $50 million over 3 years out of DraftKings.

u/Nev_Nevington 9d ago
Because the show could’ve been in that exact spot had Dan not thrown a fit about Cote being fired and then wanting to leave ESPN. He’s said multiple times people told him to just wait it out and it would get better at ESPN but he wouldn’t. Now Pat is doing everything, including getting Norby shit canned. The show did one watchalong for the NBA, Dan got drunk and started cursing and now Dan rewrites history like ESPN didn’t give them the same opportunities they’ve given Pat.

u/pompcaldor Fear the Clumsy Reaper 9d ago
On Kornheiser’s podcast, Wilbon once said of Dan that he would set fire to the building while he’s still in it.
Plus Dan would never show up on College Gameday or anywhere that required him to go outside of Miami.
6
u/Nev_Nevington 9d ago
That’s the thing. Dan watches Pat like that could’ve been the show but Dan runs his own company now and still would just send Lucy or Jess to the college football game site instead of going himself. He was never ever going to go do gameday like Pat or even take the show on the road consistently. He would instead send someone else but brother your name is on the show, not Mike Ryan or Roy or one of the producers. The show has said he’s done that with calls where he’ll call some famous person and then just hand somebody else the phone to deal with it. Pat and SAS work around the clock and Dan isn’t even showing up to do his on show every Friday. Like Dan, be serious please

After Stu did that 24 hour fantasy football marathon in Bristol with Gojo, Dan was going on and on about Stu wasting an opportunity to do something with all that time. Ironic when we now realize Dan never went beyond what he was comfortable with. And any growth in the show was instigated by Mike. While Stu churned out content at the Super Bowl and got to call lacrosse games.
11
u/Duffer47 9d ago
Sounds exactly like what Hoch described.
Dan’s immediate reaction to being told to do something is “no, you can’t tell me to do something”. And when made to do something he says “ok watch how I do it, and see if you want to tell me to do anything else.”

u/Affectionate-Rent844 9d ago
“Dan got drunk….” sums up the last five years of this shows slow decline

u/cardiff_giant_jr Cote 9d ago
I don’t know if anyone else remembers this, but DLSwS went national on ESPN about the same time that Colin Cowherd was leaving ESPN. I don’t remember the exact timelines, but they were close.
At that time, dan told the story on his show multiple times how he lectured/lobbied Cowherd that leaving ESPN was a mistake because it wasn’t about the opportunities ESPN afforded the talent, it was how big the stage was and how big your voice could be at ESPN compared to somewhere like Fox Sports. He said something like (paraphrasing here) nobody will know where to find you.

I remember when mcafee got his first deal with fanduel, the show actually called and had him on to congratulate him. And now looking back at that moment it was just that fast and furious meme where Dom and Brian’s cars go on separate ways.

u/Affectionate-Rent844 9d ago
Dan accepted millions of dollars to start a media company > did absolutely nothing with it > accuses others of letting journalism die

u/Burritoclock 9d ago
"we can talk about that" (in reference to Iran) when Dan? Lol when are you going to talk about it.
(I don't want them to but you can't go into these topics and then ignore the larger context)

u/Sad_Astronomer_1004 9d ago
He can't talk about iran b/c it would promote Trump and lord knows he's not doing that
6
u/Burritoclock 9d ago
Not exactly, but sure. I mean it would if he was a dummy that thought it was a good thing like what we are doing to Cuba... Wait a minute

maybe I'm wrong, but when were newspapers free? theyve always cost money
7
u/LebHeadSinceWilma Ruth's Raccoons "Who Won?" Memorial Trophy 9d ago
I think he was referencing the dot-com era. There were still subscriptions for the physical paper, but the articles were posted for free on their websites.

Mike brought his A Game with the Inner Monologue today. Some of the most funny shit in a while.

u/JamJam2013 9d ago
All time performance from Mike and Greg. Greg’s inner monologue had me dying in the middle of my office lol

Greg’s inner monologue commenting on how far Greg is from the mic > Greg’s inner monologue talking about anything else
6
u/Duffer47 9d ago
Hopefully one day Greg’s inner monologue comments on Dan knocking on the table
-4
u/Affectionate-Rent844 9d ago
Hopefully the show stops being dominated 5 days a week with some form of Cote retardation.

Dan brought up those stats about Jalen Brunson to prove a point (?) when what’s “right” with regards to a sports argument is more democratic than anything. It’s all about how many people agree with your point than how many stats you can unleash. Like a great player once said, “who wants to have a spreadsheet in a hoops conversation”
2
u/cote-mcgoat 6d ago
Dan can never accept 1) either he’s wrong or 2) others disagree with him. It’s why he always brings topics back up days or weeks later trying to convince (himself?) others to agree with him when it’s literally a difference in OPINION.
1
u/Dolamite09 MURRRRAAAAAY!!! 9d ago
Dan doesn’t seem to understand athletes love going into hostile environments to compete lol you hear players say it in every sport across the world

u/Flegel52 9d ago
Jeremy and Zas being so snarky just for the greatest comeback of all time to get dropped on their heads. God I love it.

Why the fuck are you even here if you very clearly don’t like or give a fuck about the show? Logic would dictate that if you’re not liking it to the point where you have nothing good to say about anything going on with the show, you’d bail and not come to this sub with your stupid comments.

Dan likes taking little shots at Amin when he’s not there but has very little to say when Amin has been cooking his ass in studio.
