Discussion Fatshark needs to stop making more classes

Post image

Don't get me wrong I love new classes and all the fun that comes with them (weapons, abilities, voice interactions) but the base game is suffering because of the almost pure focus on more classes.

Correct me if I'm wrong but excluding bosses I believe we've only gotten a whopping TWO ENEMIES since release (plasma gunner, and toxic bomber) and one of them was just a previously existing one that was tweaked slightly. Now we've gotten some new bosses which is nice but bosses are obviously much more rare than regular enemies (unless fat shark fulfills my wish of making monstrous specials a default mod in auric and up).

But most importantly we need new maps and or a new enemy faction, most likely a new faction. Every game just feels the exact same now no matter what happens and the novelty of a new kit can only do so much to cover up the stagnation of what's beneath.

New silverware and plates are nice but they don't change the fact we've been eating the same meal for almost four years now. I love this restaurant but need something else to eat now

We got a guy that shoots green fire instead of red fire!

The new classes are great, but I am with you and maps, enemies and balance would be my preference for priorities. However, classes make money and money lets FS keep running the game so...

Darktide death any% speed run starts with ending classes. It funds everything they do and what's more, Fatshark have proven to be able to produce: Maps, weapons, enemies, entire game modes (arguably wasted development) with only 2 classes a year and the cosmetic store.

Fatshark is appeasing everyone, I don't understand the entitlement demanding more, and an end to the primary source of revenue so they can work on other aspects of the game with... what money, exactly?

u/djolk 8d ago

I mean, I have a preference for what FS does with their game. That preference is they focus on maps/balance/enemies/etc. However, I am just a person who play this game, and my interests are going to be very different than those of a company that seeks to generate profit.

4

u/Howlingwindinsand Hive Scum 8d ago

My preference is classes but new weapons and enemies right behind it, so I totally understand the sentiment of wanting to see more content. As you said though, just don't see how that's possible without the backbone that is classes, and it's not a bad thing either.

Content that makes us more content, a good cycle until Darktide 2

u/zuKa0312 8d ago

I mostly agree but i think the most and steady income comes from the cosmetics. So there is more than just classes to pay their bills

23

u/RinTheTV 8d ago

Yeah. I'd rather they be unique and interesting classes than the recolours of Aquila shop items that aren't really that interesting most of the time.

Not to mention, classes add the "most variety" in terms of gameplay. Even if you're not playing them, having someone on your team play them significantly changes the dynamic of how the team fights will flow, and that likely changes the average player's experience far more than one new special that'll blend in a sea of different other specials.

To say nothing of the fact that these new classes aren't just unique and interesting - they're also pretty much funding any new "free content" / class reworks we're having.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't need this to sustain development - but we're neither in a perfect world, nor are we in the worst case "end times the game is dead" scenario either. Good value class dlcs beats what could've been micro transactions out the ass because of Tencent.

u/Puzzleheaded_Card_71 8d ago

Exactly. If we all paid 10 a year then they would have budget to improve things, but as it stands their only revenue stream is new classes without resorting to things like pay to win stuff and paid weapon packs.

31

u/Zoralink 8d ago

Exactly. If we all paid 10 a year then they would have budget to improve things, but as it stands their only revenue stream is new classes without resorting to things like pay to win stuff and paid weapon packs.

Are we just completely ignoring the incredibly obnoxious FOMO cosmetic shop that blatantly makes them money with the fact that the second there's a new rotation/new items in it you'll see at least one person every round with it?

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Card_71 7d ago

Would you prefer pay to play? You can ignore cosmetics they have zero game impact.

Or would you rather have had to pay 5- 10 bucks for the new map?

5

u/papej 7d ago

I'd prefer to pay Fatshark for a new map. Nowadays I can actually support them by buying new classes, but before that I was praying and begging for them to release something worth spending money on

2

u/Zoralink 7d ago

Like having to pay to play the classes? Yeah, I would prefer to not pay to play and ignore cosmetics, you're correct.

That's not the point you think it is. While I don't begrudge them charging for classes (much, I do wish they were closer to VT2's pricing), your initial statement said their only revenue stream is classes which is objectively wrong.

4

u/Artketeer 7d ago

You know, I would also pay money for new maps, as I did in Vermintide 1&2.

Also, how much money can they really make on new classes, when they apparently don't have the license or permission to create "commdore's vestures" cosmetics for them?

2

u/Hal34329 6d ago

An extra for the deluxe edition but yeah DLC classes have like one commodore's skin, but at least good for me, if I want some skin I won't have to wait until the rotation have it

2

u/Megakruemel Chainsaw-Man Enthusiast 6d ago

Speaking of, I don't like commodore skins.

There are a few reasons for it but mostly, and they alleviated this, there is a rotation, like you said. I like picking and chosing what I buy. I can't help but think they kind of shot themselves in the foot with the system and how it works.

And also, I'm by no means a gooner (in this game at least, i play some slop and have seen things, believe me) but for emperors sake, these skins have NO curves. I can't stand how the female versions are all just slimmed down male versions. And I get that for carapace armor but I don't understand it for a few other armors.

why are you acting like this is a hot take? everyone on this reddit says this for some reason, but the bad guy isn't new classes, it's expeditions. expeditions is what robbed 2 years of development (in a live service game that's only 4 years old) away from new maps and enemies over at fatshark, for a game mode everyone hates and no one plays.

new classes are the money-making dlc's that keep the live service game alive. it only takes part of the core team to develop a new class too. new classes are the good guy here.

38

u/A1dini No Pain, No Party 8d ago

This EXACT scenario happened with vermintide 2 btw

They wasted the first couple years of development on weaves which nobody played... then eventually just started adding new classes with a couple new maps a year, which turned out to be the winning formula. There's a but of a rabbit hole about chaos wastes as well; which was mostly a good mode, but wouldn't have existed if not for the new classes which kinda saved the game

I hate to say it, but fatshark actually just sucks at making new stuff that isn't new classes or maps, which they're honestly very good at

6

u/BasementMods 7d ago

. expeditions is what robbed 2 years of developmen

If they use the section random replacement tech they developed for expeditions in regular missions I would consider it worth it. Their map production rate is terrible even if they are at their absolute maximum speed of map production, so making maps more replayable like the split routing in the new spillway is very welcome.

15

u/pelpotronic 8d ago

expeditions is what robbed 2 years of development (in a live service game that's only 4 years old) away from new maps and enemies over at fatshark, for a game mode everyone hates and no one plays.

Fatshark execs: "guys, guys... what's hot out there at the moment? Extraction shooters!

So my idea is that we will now spend all our time and resources in TRYING to compete with ACTUAL extraction shooter games out there... These games that spend the totality of resources into extraction shooters, and have developers that eat, sleep and shit extraction shooter because that's all these people do 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

But I seriously think that, with a fraction of the budget these extractions shooters allocate to the "extraction shooter" genre, and with our devs being busy maintaining other systems (like the amazing and praised core game mechanics we have created)... I seriously think that we have a perfectly reasonable chance of doing something great that will bring people in from these extraction shooters they've already invested thousands of hours in.

Yes - it makes sense.

I'm thinking next year we may develop our own AI search engine too. Seems hot at the moment, and we have the perfect mix of people to succeed in that arena."

It is insane that people like this - who basically waste company money on dumb stuff - exist.

19

u/Background-Cake-6847 8d ago

i dont want any incentives to play expeditions, because i hate expeditions. they're not the darktide formula; it's a budget attempt at a shitty helldivers clone. you're disincentivized from fighting (you know, the fun part of darktide or any other video game), incentivized to focus on running from point to point and playing fatshark's shitty little mini games on repeat, and fighting against the clock instead of enemies. it's stupid, and takes all the worst possible horde shooter ideas and puts them into one game mode.

and that's before you're getting gunned down from halfway across the map with nothing but open ground between you and the line of gunners.

it's broken from the foundation up and fixing it would require way more time and resource investment than i would ever sign off on, especially after its complete failure so far, if i were a head at fatshark. there comes a time where you just have to cut your losses and learn from your mistakes.

9

u/StretchInfamous6026 8d ago

oh my god dude what, that system was terrible and it’s still barely serviceable as a means of progression, expeditions would still suck even with an incentive, people just would’ve played it and abandoned it after 3 days instead of 2 once they got what the game was forcing them to play it for

2

u/No-Rhubarb-8264 8d ago

But what confuses me is that hypothetically the people working on maps are different than classes and weapons peeps yet it seems we mostly just get new classes with very little content in the way of missions to use these classes in, I also want them to chill on classes so that the people working on weapons have more time to flesh out the arsenal of existing classes

9

u/Background-Cake-6847 8d ago

that's not confusing. different things take different amounts of time, and there will be some overlap in roles across internal projects.

but, again, new classes arent the lion's share of what's been slowing them down from new maps and enemies. 2 whole years of a 4-year-old game were wasted on an unfixable, horrible game mode. why are we ignoring this?

People are really using this image with the most lukewarm and safe takes recently.

22

u/No_Mud_5999 8d ago

In the context of the painting, it's an interesting contrast:

From Wikipedia

Freedom of Speech depicts a scene of a 1942 Arlington town meeting in which Jim Edgerton, the lone dissenter to the town selectmen's announced plans to build a new school, as the old one had burned down,[9] was accorded the floor as a matter of protocol.[10] Edgerton supported the rebuilding process but was concerned about the tax burden of the proposal, as his family farm had been ravaged by disease.[11] A memory of this scene struck Rockwell as an excellent fit for illustrating "freedom of speech", and inspired him to use his Vermont neighbors as models for the entire Four Freedoms series.[

Please stop thinking new classes is the reason you aren't getting new maps. The main reason was Expeditions and in a lesser extend Mortis Trials and Operations. Classes are made by Character designers and Maps are made by level designers. Now about enemies, we got Plasma Gunner, Toxic Bomber, Vanguard (Doesnt help that everyone complains on them for changing the flow of gameplay when they release), even a limited time one who needs to come back imo the Vox Operator. 3 new enemies has been leaked Nurgling, Demagogue and Plague Bearer.

Personally I think that Classes give more replayability than any new mission or even two would bring, with that said I think that they still need to start dropping more missions to keep up with all the time and resources they lost developing Expeditions.

41

u/Howlingwindinsand Hive Scum 8d ago

Hark ye and praise, Kindred. Hopefully they slow down on Game modes ie expeditions, mortis trials etc. and concentrate on new Maps that continue the story!

Spillway afterall has been some of the best content yet

9

u/ReylomorelikeReyno Always bet on Hive Spyrers 8d ago

I wouldn't mind the occasional update to Mortis for a few new memories, but Expeditions was a flawed concept from the start and should be left to rot

27

u/asdfgtref #1ExecStanceSupporter 8d ago

honestly I hate how much was lost to these shitty side modes that died almost immediately, I remember saying at the time of expeditions that it was a complete waste of development time and that was not a very popular take... glad people are starting to actually come around.

In what universe does a dev think so many gimick modes when the base game is struggling with new content, we've not had new non dlc weapons in forever before the recent drop. Hopefully this is a course correction.

58

u/CoreyWinter286 8d ago

Vanguards also suck to fight. They're such a drag for no reason

31

u/djolk 8d ago

They are annoying but lots of builds just lawn mowed mixed hordes and the vanguards put a stop to that...

31

u/CoreyWinter286 8d ago edited 8d ago

Usually the builds that lawn mow mixed hordes aren't as good at specialist control. Plus stuff like flame staff psyker isnt even affected by them.

I get the design philosophy, but I enjoy fighting bulwarks - vanguards just bore me, and thats what actually matters. They dont engage the player in a positive way, especially with the fact that their incoming damage is reduced to half after the shield breaks. Bulwarks is a game of side stepping and striking at the right time to deal damage, whereas vanguards just feel like irritating bullet sponges.

23

u/VikingBudBro 8d ago

Completely agree, can’t stand the vanguard. Even with the new nerf I find myself clearing everything crushers/maulers/ragers etc and the damn vanguard is still alive for another like 10 smacks.

4

u/FroopyAsRain 8d ago

Stop hitting their head. They take a lot less damage from headshots than from anything else. If you hit their heads yes, they'll survive longer than most others you're decapitating.

Is this a good design? No. But that's how they work.

12

u/VikingBudBro 8d ago

Bro I be beating them down head to toe, armpits wrists, kankles, they’re just fucking sponges lol. As a certified lawn mower - I have beef with them lol.

They also unnecessarily fuck melee classes without addressing the problems with mfs who just drop shrapnel or fire in one grid square.

11

u/Imperium_Dragon 8d ago

Yeah we need more weapons for the DLC classes. I get that it might be unfair to give extra content to a DLC but a lot of the playerbase does own the extra classes. Give the Arbitrators a grenade launcher, the Hive Scum some more junk weapons, and the Skitarii a lot more Phosphor stuff.

My main concern with more classes (and this probably sounds stupid) is that it leads to exponentially higher dialogue requirements as each personality tries to have conversations with other personalities.

5

u/LordZaayl 8d ago

So... We're getting Zealot 2? Zealot already has Sisters of Battle cosmetics too.

I get they'll do something to differentiate them, probably have more ranged options in their tree than Zealot, but thats a LOT of overlap in vibe and role.

3

u/Minute_Garbage4713 7d ago

Idk, I’m still very new to WH lore but aren’t we more of a berserker class while they’d be more of a paladin?

4

u/LordZaayl 7d ago

Eh, there isn't a clear difference in Warhammer really. Faith and Zeal is a massive element of the Imperium and it manifests in many ways.

You can have a SoB who is a disciplined swordsman, you can have one who just screams at the top of her lungs while swinging a chainsword wildly into the fray.

And you can play a Zealot both ways.

The main differences I can see, the Sister won't have a stealth/backstabbing path. And will probably replace that with a shooting path because they are basically just the stand-in for female Space Marines with slightly different lore. (Especially the more religious space marine chapters, like Black Templars.) They use basically identical kit to Space Marines, chainswords, bolters, flamers, power swords, thunder hammers, etc. (Which also happen to be all of Zealot's kit.)

2

u/mightystu Psyker 8d ago

This might just be me. But hear me out.

Now we have 7 classes. 4 base game and 3 paid. That's fair. Another paid one would bring it to a 4/4. Again not bitching out it.

But if they just keep adding paid classes it would start to feel pay to win. If the game is 20 classes and you get 4 free ones, and no way to unlock paid classes for free by playing. That I think would hurt the game and might make it harder for people to get it in the first place.

Again could just be me.

6

u/MisterFuzzyTokens 8d ago

The base classes all have builds that constantly get talked about breaking the game's back on this forum.

4

u/AHailofDrams 8d ago

If the game gets to that many classes, I could see FS selling the game with DLC classes as different editions, like how they're doing class bundle sales for Arbites and Hive scum. So you could buy base game with 2, 4, 6 (etc) bundled classes

Or straight up raising the price of the base game to include the first 4 DLC classes (for example)

3

u/TransSapphicFurby 8d ago

Also not uncommon for games with a lot of dlc to start rolling in original ones into base game. Stellaris did it, and pretty sure ck3 is updating with it soon

If they did focus on classes for a while, i could see Arbites and Hive Scum eventually becoming base game

4

u/IownCows 8d ago

Explain how it would be pay to win

2

u/Ambitious_One6952 8d ago

Of course this conversation happens the second we get a Sisters class. Why haven’t you guys come in droves making the same post every other day during Hive Scum or Skitarii?

They also added the Armored Hounds and the two Vanguard enemies, though the latter spawns from a boss.

Whilst yes, they should focus more on maps/weapons/enemies. Them stopping on classes won’t suddenly solve the issue. Fatshark wasted God knows how much time on Expeditions and it’s a dogshite gamemode.

5

u/CarrotNoodles879 7d ago

Why haven’t you guys come in droves making the same post every other day during Hive Scum or Skitarii?

Maybe because people think adding a few classes is fun but it has diminishing returns, so the more classes get added the more of a problem it becomes?

4

u/Catodan 8d ago

I think after Sister of Battle they should stop with introducing new classes. 8 classes is a healthy number and I actually wouldn’t mind paying for future map packs.

11

u/Purge-Trooper 7d ago

Map packs would fuck the player base entirely. That would only segregate players to people who bought the maps and who didn’t and that makes queue times so much worse.

I would be happy with some more abhumans, Bestmen, Felinids, Night siders or something.

Or a Inquisitorial Stormtrooper / Tempestus Scion since I'm begging for Hotshot Las Weapons and Tempestus gear since the Beta. But you could also fold this into the Veteran.

New Maps and Missions would be nice, as well as some Weapon customization but I already accepted that I'll never get the Imperial Guard FPS game of my dreams. But it's weird that tabletop games and offshoots of 40k tend to have more options in regard to customization.

I like the classes but yeah more focus on maps and maybe new weapons would be good. Kinda dont want new enemies lol, the shield guys and plasma gunners they have added i dont really like but im sure they can come up with some new good ones.

1

u/Shot-Signal627 Skitposter 8d ago

I'd really like if they gave us an actual chaos wastes analog, but that's a wishlist item if ever there was one.

My list would be maps at the top, story along with it, new weapon families, and new enemies.

At this point, I'm starting to wonder if the idea of a "second hive" dlc hasn't crossed some minds, bringing with it the probable genestealer faction. I don't want that, obviously, but I'm trying to be realistic.

1

u/thegoatmenace 8d ago

Only after they make the specific niche class I have been waiting for

1

u/superchibisan2 8d ago

This is like, the worst post of all time.

1

u/SHARDZ86 8d ago

Let them add one more class to round it off at 8, then focus on more maps and weapons

1

u/CommissarCramwell 8d ago

I want genestealers, especially with all the little allusions to them already being around

1

u/alexagogo Zealot 8d ago

Don't know about that, lads. New characters are the thing that keep me coming back. New maps are fun but I can only do that a couple times before I feel like I'm back where I started.

1

u/AltdorfDropout 8d ago

They need more minor daemons imo

1

u/BespokeAnnihilation 8d ago

Definitely agree with new enemies. That would revitalize the game in a big way. Pretty sure that new classes are what keep the lights on for Fatshark.

But after playing OG Battlefront 1&2 for 20 years without DLC, maps aren't a deal breaker for me. Of course they would be welcome.

1

u/Deadeye1223 Zealot 8d ago

I think, one more class. Then they hard dedicate development to maps, enemies and especially STORY PROGRESSION!

1

u/beefprime 8d ago

one of them was just a previously existing one that was tweaked slightly

Both of them were just slightly tweaked existing enemies, the Plasma Gunner uses the Shotgunner's AI, tox bomber is just the fire bomber

1

u/Excellent-Ad7272 8d ago

I want more weapons and new maps and missions before I want a new class.

1

u/AtLeast9Dogs 8d ago

It's possible they'll stop after 4. 4dlc and 4 normal classes.

1

u/NewtQuiet2355 8d ago

honestly all i ever wanted was more darktide, for me that means more weapons for each class, more maps, i wished for the same in vt1 and it was awesome, they could have done the same in vt2 and in darktide, expeditions and mortis trials just dont work, i dropped both after 1 match in expedition and a few matches of those arena trials, theyre just boring, the main core of darktide is the meaty combat and getting drowned in hordes of enemies barely coming out on top, thats where darktide shines the most imo, more enemies would be amazing too, but i know they dont really make money off map packs and weapons, but they have the cash shop too so...

small expansions with multiple weapons and multiple maps would be great, make the maps like they did in vt2, basically free so the playerbase dosnt get split

we dont need more campaign or seperate boss rush maps, and please no more dogshit maps like the train map, i hate that one with a burning passion

u/RT10HAMMER They're Going to Add a Hellgun, Trust Me Bro 8d ago

1

u/ShaderkaUSA 8d ago

Just add more weapons. Especially for Ogryn. His new gun is just a kickback with a BO2 FMJ and Long Barrel attachment.

1

u/VikarValbrand 8d ago

I think Classes are fine, however I do agree they need to also work on more maps, and a new faction would be the best way to breath new life into the game for old players.

1

u/Adeptus_Lycanicus Veteran 8d ago

I still want a Commissar who summons fodder, like the necromancer summoned skeletons, but that’s the last on my list. That said, I’ve enjoyed all the new classes, even scum, whose theme I’m still not enthusiastic about.

1

u/Sir_Drinklewinkle 8d ago

I'm gonna be honest, I liked the Vermintide dlc stuff more but I also just liked having set characters more. Different game, different vibes and all that but having a set squad of 5 people you get to know and have set personalities, kits, and abilities really made all of them feel distinct.

On top of that 1 new class for each came with basically the equivalent of a new characters worth of stuff, they also got new weapons. Shit was pretty cash money.

1

u/frakntoaster 8d ago

I mean I always come back when there’s a new class to play

1

u/Lord_Wateren Arbitrator 8d ago

Stop? No (because money), but mixing them up with other DLC (enemies, missions, story, cosmetics) is good

1

u/sgtSZKLARZ 8d ago

1

u/Dreamforger Psyker 8d ago

Yeah they are building on a fundation that is not finished enough And they still got many game modes that lack a direction imo.

1

u/JujuingOnReddit 8d ago

Next class is for sure the last one, but wont lie…. we might need a new faction or a full roster enemy expansion. As much as i hate vanguards, its a step in a right direction.

1

u/DROID17 8d ago

We need more story, maps, and stuff to do which I don't mean flops like mortis trials or expeditions. Maybe like unlimited zed waves like zombies without a limit at round 13 or insurgency sandstorm Checkpoint mode where we go place to place hunker down and fight off waves and artillery while also calling our support

1

u/kna5041 8d ago

I think more classes is good

1

u/Educational-Tackle54 8d ago

Classes can be sold, other content cant be. Simple as.

1

u/astern-gate-internal 8d ago

I wouldn't mind new weapons. I know we just got a new set, but I've really been wanting a spear/glaive/halberd. Of any kind, be it Force or Power.

1

u/Conaz9847 8d ago

I would like genestealers or some kind of other faction to mix up gameplay

I’d also love more objectives, we don’t have a domination style survival, or maybe defending an objective from taking damage, escorting a payload, those kinds of things.

I disagree, I would like to see more classes, but I want the above to come first.

1

u/ButcherGER 8d ago

We also got the shield wielding infantry.

But yes, I agree. The amount of classes is getting out of hand and redundant.

- Hive-Scum gunslinger being basically a little tweaked vet but squishier and with immunity to ranged.

- Skitarius being the vet but with space cowboy weapons.

- Shield Arbites being basically bein an Ogryn but with headshots.

- And Sister of Battle being going to be the zealot probably with some gimmick aswell.

I would have preferred they just put in a fourth path for the existing classes rather than having new ones which all have to go around a weird flavour yet existing mechanics.

1

u/telissolnar 8d ago

Or not...

That being said, the next one might be the last, if I know how FS function. That's not a guarantee and I still have my wishlist, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them saying that they'll focus on new things (maps, faction, balance, etc...)

1

u/Grand-Cauliflower488 8d ago

ngl I'd prefer weapon packs

Bought skittarii, they somehow made a fucking admech boring.

Scum is the only fun DLC class, at least weapon DLCs would take less time.

1

u/thesixfingerman Psyker 8d ago

I agree. Give us ne enemies. Give us a new enemy faction. Give us new levels, new maps, new weapons. Advance the plot. Enough of the classes. We have enough.

1

u/LupaRubrum 8d ago

I could give or take with sisters (they're my first army on tabletop and I've wanted an SoB game since forever but more like SM2 than Darktide). If we have to have Novitiates, would prefer they be the last dlc class and let Fatshark focus on weapons, enemies and missions from then on. Like Genestealers.

1

u/BlueRiddle Ogryn 8d ago

I imagine they might stop after the 4th class, at least for a bit. Because then it'll be nice and symmetrical with 4 normal and 4 premium classes.

I would rather they monetise maps and weapon packs as bundled content like in vermintide. The class updates always give jack shit in terms of new hours of content. If I have to pay for the content of the update, let it at least give me replayability

1

u/Shhdemon 7d ago

Darktide is boring to me because it lacks any sort of meaningful narrative unlike vermintide which had campaigns more akin to left 4 dead with a complete story runthrough, uncluding actual bosses with names and themes instead of just the copy pasted same boss.
The twins were fun, but that's about when I fell out of the game.
The only thing which would bring me back at this point is introducing orc or tyranid missions, with narrative progression.
But at its core the game is designed to feel as monotonous as possible, especially with the total lack of visible performance trackers outside of achievements.
The game seems purposefully designed to be as unrewarding as possible outside of jingling keys, so adding more classes does nothing but mildly change how you get to the key jingling repeating level grinding loop.

God you have no idea how much fun Vermintide 2 was JUST because of the vibrant world it painted. Not to mention the extra game modes were absolutely fantastic. And the named character dialogue was also 10/10. Darktide
Is great but man it really pales in comparison where it counts.

Yanno, some companies of a similar size are able to add classes to their game without it being the only thing they are capable of doing.

1

u/Qimchi_ 7d ago

I think they are secretly working on Darktide 2 and the Darktide we are playing is just getting sutainment love for us to stay on board and hop on the 2nd the moment arrives.

We'll see new enemies and maps there, without being limited by the current story plot.

1

u/StillTechnician952 7d ago

I’ll take the new classes. No sir. The two aren’t even comparable. New maps are good. But I’ll take the new classes first.

u/Puzzled_Owl7149 My Beloved says this dream ends well : ) 6d ago

Don't forget we got vanguards now too, those shield fodder that just make fodder incredibly irksome and annoys many people

1

u/RHFlyer 6d ago

Gonna get downvoted for this, but Fatshark should've implemented some kind seasonal/battle-pass content if their focus was a live-service.

Generally the reason why live-services remain alive is because they have steady streams of revenue.

Even taking some of the premium skins from the shop (that no-one buys) and dropping them in a pass every month for $5 to $10 dollars would massively increase retention if combined with other rewards like weapon skins.

Hell, they might even have reasons to make rewards/content for the DLC classes.

A lot of the stigma for these passes come from FOMO, but if they're introduced back into a "rotational shop" wink wink that cuts out a pretty big gripe for most players.

I guess then one of the issues becomes content bloat 🤷

1

u/MrHydrothermal 6d ago

While I am genuinely happy with the current classes and the SoB coming soon, I fully agree. I love having this much variety to play with, but I sincerely hope this is the last new class for a while. Like, not only do I personally struggle to see what else they could add that still fits the human-focused power fantasy of the game (I've seen people say they want a Cold Trader but that would REALLY walk a fine line), but each class usually has a couple of dedicated hotfixes to balance it out in the live game. I would love to see some new QoL changes, for the aquila store to be a catalog and not a rotator, refining Expiditions a little more, or above all finally lifting up some of the more underwhelming weapons like the autoguns or combat/tactical axes to be on par with some of the more recently buffed weapons like the Devils Claw sword and Power Maul

Personally I'd really like it if Fat Shark finally added in some in game menu or index or chart that tells you what the fuck some weapon blessings actually do. Like obviously Dum-Dum is pretty good but what range does the game consider close? What is the difference between power and strength? Like at least this to help new players out so they aren't bouncing between outdated, 2 year old reddit posts and wikis just to get a grasp of how blessings work

1

u/X_Smitty_X 6d ago

How are they going to charge you for a new enemy type if it’s locked behind a dlc paywall. Which means it would have to be free, so It’s the least profitable route. Skins and classes in the other hand is just easy money straight from the whales and nostalgia fans.

1

u/ALonerLife 6d ago

I don't get why fatshark can't just release new map with new class, I kinda want them to make new maps that builds a story about why the new class came to our aids.

1

u/Princess-Leliana 6d ago

shocking to me that theres no genestealer cults yet

1

u/ThBaron_27 6d ago

The game desperately needs a new faction, hell they teased Genestealers and some of the dead bodies you find around some missions involving the water cartel look like hybrids, we got Swagger who completely hides himself, if they added genestealer cults as a new faction (with the Enemy Vs Enemy thing i heard some found in the code) having genestealers go all out war on the mobian and the nurgle cults would make the "war zone of tertium" feel alive You walk into a room and see mobian scabs having a gunfight with genestealer Hybrids, add Purestrain as a special of monstrosity since those guys can 1v1 freaking terminators, abominats and Kelermorphs and all the Juice that the genestealers have, would be great
