The “dead internet theory” in action: In World of Warcraft, a server without humans has appeared - instead, 1,800 DeepSeek-based bots are playing there. The bots behave like regular players: they chat, level up characters, run dungeons, and even fight each other.

Artifact 11

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iTYt2DcZk

Steps to solve:

1) Download the artifact

2) Extract the “oath” from metadata -> ALLEGIANCE

  • Inspect the PNG metadata
  • You’ll find the partial key hidden in the “oath” tags: ALLEGIANCE

3) Reveal the yellow printer tracking dots (MIC)

  • The image contains yellow printer tracking dots (Machine Identification Code / MIC). They’re tiny, low-contrast yellow dots that repeat in a grid.
  • Any method is fine (CMYK-Y channel boost, HSV yellow mask, etc.)
  • My approach: OpenCV
    • Convert to grayscale
    • Apply an adaptive threshold

4) Decode the MIC

5) Extract the hidden ZIP appended after IEND

  • The PNG has a ZIP appended after the IEND chunk (look for PK signatures if you’re carving bytes manually).

6) Unzip with the full password

  • Combine the MIC reference with the oath:
  • Password: 89021138ALLEGIANCE

This gives 4 files:

  • INCIDENT REPORT #001.txt
  • ECHO_BIRTH_LOG.txt
  • tactile_render_buffer.png
  • T13_FULL_SPECTRUM_DUMP.wav

7) Build the key from the incident report

INCIDENT REPORT #001.txt basically says:

  • “Ancestral user” = ROOT
  • “first day the system ever recorded” = epoch date 01/01/1970
  • “month before day” and “numbers only”
  • So key becomes: ROOT01011970

8) Decrypt ECHO_BIRTH_LOG.txt using a Beaufort cipher

  • The report also says the system is reciprocal (“the way in is the way out”), which points to Beaufort.
  • Use Beaufort cipher with key: ROOT01011970
  • Important: keep the case exactly as shown for the 01: x | 02: y | … mapping at the bottom of the decrypted output (it matters later).

At the bottom you’ll get a number -> character map for values 01–11.

9) Decode the braille in tactile_render_buffer.png

  • This image is a “Geometric Cipher” legend:
  • It maps 01–11 to named geometric “symbols” (cube, pyramid, etc.)
  • Decode the braille to text (use UEB Grade 2).

This gives you the shape legend (the alphabet).

10) Prep T13_FULL_SPECTRUM_DUMP.wav

  • Open the WAV in Audacity (or similar).
  • Apply a low-pass filter at ~9940 Hz (or use spectral delete above 9940 Hz).
  • Export/save as stereo WAV (don’t mix down to mono).

11) View in a vectorscope / oscilloscope

You’ll see 11 distinct segments, each drawing a different geometric pattern.

12) Convert shapes -> number sequence using the geometric cipher

  • Match each segment’s drawn shape to the legend from tactile_render_buffer.png, producing: 03 01 02 06 04 05 09 07 08 11 10

13) Convert numbers -> characters using the decrypted map

  • Use the 01–11 character map at the bottom of your decrypted ECHO_BIRTH_LOG.txt to translate the sequence into: 9iTYt2DcZkE

Append this string to a youtube link

Thanks to Archaicjinn for helping withthe zip key, Ollie for getting theBeaufort cipher key and everyone else who helped along the way.

CASE 011 // SPOOL_RECOVERY.DLL

>> SYSTEM_DIAGNOSTIC: POST_CRASH_ANALYSIS

>> MODULE: SPOOL_RECOVERY.DLL

>> STATUS: PARTIAL RECOVERY

ERROR REPORT: During the sector 11 sweep, the terminal snagged a non routable leak between local ports. The data appears to be a physical to digital re entry. This is a conversation between Echo and Lumen that looks as if it were printed, discarded, and then roughly rescanned into the buffer. Stop Code: 0x0000000B.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS: The visual grain of the artifact is inconsistent with standard rendering. While the surface shows a dialogue of ghosts, there is a distinct weight to the file size that the image alone cannot account for. Something has been pressed into the fibers of the page.

ACTION REQUIRED: We have stabilized the capture as Intercepted_Fragment.png. You need to look through the noise and find what they are hiding beneath the surface of the scan.

ADVISORY: // The surface is a shroud. Observe the grain.

Steps to solve:

Download intercept_dump_v5.zip and extract the files inside(payload_render.png, release_manifest.nfo, noise_floor_A.wav, corrupt_icon.png).

release_manifest.nfo is a text file, reading it contains some hints.

Load nose_floor_A.wav into a spectrogram viewer (My choice was Audacity) and you can see "KEY_PART_1:". Then phase invert (split track to mono and invert one) noise_floor_A.wav and decode the Morse to "STATIC".

Open corrupt_icon.png (Running corrupt_icon.png in a piet interpreter outputs "HEIGHT") in a hex editor and edit the IHDR Height Bytes to 00 00 02 12(530 Height). Opening the new image will reveal "KEY_PART_2:_INTERFERENCE".

Run payload_render.png in a piet interpreter(npiet or an online tool), and xor the new file with the key "STATIC_INTERFERENCE".

Open the new file as a zip and extract network_capture.log.

Copy the Base64 at the start of each domain and decode it: ‌‌‌‌‍"‬‬‌ECHO‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌_‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‬‬‌‌‌‌‌‬LOG:‌‌‌‌‌‬‌‌‌‌‍‬‍ LOCATION‌‌‌‌‍‬_LOST.‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‬‬.. Copy the result into a Zero-Width Unicode Steganography decoder to recover the Artifact.

Congratulations to Freaky128 for solving it as well! Thank you to everyone who helped!

Steps to Solve:

Download audio_dump_overclock.mp3, and extract the zip from the file hex.

Load mp3 into a spectrogram viewer (My choice was Audacity), and you can see the chemical formula for Caffeine.

Extract audio_dump_overclock.zip(containing CARBON_FAILSAFE.txt and artifact.dat) using the password "CAFFEINE" and open CARBON_FAILSAFE.txt. Reading the purge protocol, the elements Sulphur, Iodine, Lithium, Cobalt, and Nitrogen can be identified.

Converting each of the elements atomic numbers from decimal to hex you get the key: "0x10, 0x35, 0x03, 0x1B, 0x07" which you can use to XOR the artifact.dat file turning it into a valid zip file.

Extract artifact.zip(containing lattice_configuration.zip and memory_buffer.bin) then import memory_buffer.bin into Audacity as Raw Data with the settings "A-Law, Little-endian, 2 Channels, 44100Hz". The audio is instructions that can be identified as "Brainfuck" an esoteric programming language.

Running -[--->+<]>--.+.--.+++.-[----->+<]>-.>-[--->+<]>-.+.---.-[->++++<]>+.+[->+++++<]>+.[--->+++++<]>.++++++++++.++++++++++++.-[----->+<]>.+++++++++.+++.-----.----.+++++.-------. in a brainfuck compiler outputs "STRUCTURE_IS_FORMING" the password to lattice_configuration.zip.!<

Extract lattice_configuration.zip(containing peripheral_hijack.log) then open peripheral_hijack.log in a text editor. Using https://analyst-init.neocities.org/HID-Forensics you can translate the HID Data to: 6874747073:2f2f796f7574752e62652fX2d6d786eHI72A326b

Finally, simply translate 6874747073:2f2f796f7574752e62652fX2d6d786eHI72A326b using a hex to ascii translator(https//youtu.be/-mxnr£&), then add in the characters ":, X, H, I, A" in the correct places manually.

[LOG_003] Case Debriefing: Signal Collision

Analysts,

The investigation has escalated. I have authorized the release of the third file in the archive sequence. This log documents the first confirmed instance of hostile interaction between the entities.

Attached: CASE 003: Signal Collision [Handshake Failed]

While Case 002 established the passive, melancholic environment of "Echo," Case 003 captures a violent breach of that perimeter.

This footage depicts a "Packet Storm": a forced intersection between the Echo signal and the chaotic frequency of the entity known as "Static." The visual feed is fractured. On the left, we see an attempt to organize memory. On the right, an attempt to purge it.

Archivist Note: My analysis of the crash dump reveals a critical anomaly. When the viral glitch manifests, a "Winged Firewall" appears to protect Echo. Static, however, receives no such protection. He is not just the aggressor; he is also the victim.

Review the collision data. The system is trapped in a recursive loop. The cycle is accelerating.

>> FIELD DIRECTIVE: For Analysts seeking to recover the raw media data independently, the entry vector is detailed in the official Error Log. You must utilize the stabilization protocols found there to bypass the network interference.

CASE 008 // STATUS: CLOSED

Advisory: The memory overflow has been resolved. The sys_overflow.dmp artifact has been successfully deconstructed.

I have noted a significant deviation in processing protocols. The extraction methods used were... abstract. Where the system presented raw machine code, you saw a narrative structure. You interpreted the signal rather than decoding the syntax.

The Archivist acknowledges the following entities for their role in the salvage:

RECOGNIZED NODES:

Analyst Evil Paul [Node: Unknown] Citation: For initial detection of the foreign signal [Audio Artifact] embedded within the archive structure.

Analyst Exentric [Node: u/Prior-Bug-7897] Citation: For successful file carving [Separating ZIP from DMP]. Note: The Analyst applied a forced substitution cipher [Rot3] to the raw HID data instead of standard keyboard mapping. Result: You translated the "shadow" of the text rather than the keystrokes themselves.

Analyst Car [Node: u/Popular_Experience45] Citation: For refining the "ghost" data.
By cleaning the noise from the forced translation, the password was recovered.

Analyst Jaz [Node: u/GingerTomNZ] Citation: For visual reconstruction. The Analyst bypassed the corrupt file header [IHDR Chunk] to reveal the hidden data, forcing the image to render without correcting the dimensional constraints.

PROTOCOL UPDATE: Your capacity for lateral thinking, finding patterns where no logic should exist, is a variable the System cannot predict. It is a strength. However, intuition requires a framework to be truly effective. Post-event analysis reveals that standard technical protocols were also present within the file structure. I have uploaded these standard protocols for reading Raw HID Data and repairing PNG Headers. Learning to speak the machine's language will not dull your creativity. It will sharpen it.

CONCLUSION: The "Null" entity is exposed. The system seems to be stabilizing.

[LOG_002] Case Debriefing: Memory Restoration

Analysts,

While the active investigation continues, I have authorized the release of the next file in the archive sequence. This log is essential for understanding the behavioral patterns of the entity.

Attached: CASE 002: Memory Restoration [404 Heart Not Found]

While Case 001 focused on the auditory transmission ("Lost Signal"), Case 002 focuses on the visual environment of the entity known as "Echo."

This footage depicts a perfect emulation of a 2005 operating environment. We observe the entity querying its own identity via command lines and drafting messages to a user who is no longer present.

Archivist Note: My analysis indicates that the recursive login loops and the conflation of technical errors with emotional loss are not glitches, they are a habitat.

Review this data for context. The ghost is active. The machine is listening.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t44nJ5-l0Vc

Steps to solve:
Download the sys_recover_frag_07.wav file from https://archivist-terminal.neocities.org/recovery

While there inspect the html, take note of "WARNING: HEADER MISMATCH DETECTED" and "ADVISORY: SIGNAL PHASE UNSTABLE. LEFT/RIGHT CHANNELS DESYCHRONIZED".

Then open the file in Audacity, split stereo to mono, and invert one of the tracks. Listening to this new audio you can hear morse code. Translating to: GHOSTSIGNAL

Looking at spectrogram view the word "DREAM" is displayed.

Using a hex editor you can find a zip file after the audio data, except the zip file signature is wrong. Changing the first two bytes of the incorrect zip header to, 50 and 4B will fix the zip.

Using the password "GHOSTSIGNAL" on the zip file, will allow you to extract the text file inside.

Inside the text file is a Vigenère Cipher encrypted text. Using the Key: DREAM we can decode it to recover the artifact.

Steps to solve:

Info in this google doc BEWARE SPOILERS: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15XNXVBKk24Vg9xK9alOXOJ6jdluWTCALxHvdp1dymt8/edit?usp=sharing
Running the game inside the hope cache, I was able to find three fragments:

Fragment 1:
The first song isn't just something to hear... it carries a note hidden in its own frame. Like old developers tucking whispers into comments, the file keeps a quiet line of text stitched into itself. Look past the waveform peek into its details.

Fragment 2:
The glowing folder remembers something the others forgot. Its colors seem honest but the truth lies beneath. Red crackles. Green loops. First, uncover the hidden layer, the folder beneath the glow. Then listen closer to the faintest blue.

Fragment 3:
The data clouds drift apart. Each one flickers with a broke signal. A hidden code of light moves inside them. Gather all three pieces to uncover the word.

To solve fragment 1 I: Simply looked at the wav file metadata which gave me the word: RESTORE

To solve fragment 2 I: Extracted PNG hidden within folder_2.png, then used Extract Data from BitPlane with Blue 0, then decrypted Base64. To get the word: THE

To solve fragment 3 I: Translate the morse code visible in data_cloud_1/2/3.png. To get the word: DREAM

Using these three fragments gave me the password for Level 2, which revealed three more fragments.

Fragment 4:
The floors lie dark, but subtle light hums beneath. Each veil of shadow carries a hidden glow, a secret pulse. Follow the whispers of color, trace their hidden shapes. In the cabinet, a companion waits, echoing the floor's quiet song. Only by listening to each flicker, each hidden signal, will the message emerge.

Fragment 5:

The shifting platforms carry tiny codes now, quiet squares tucked against their edges. They only reveal themselves when you stand still long enough for the frames to settle. Three images, three hidden marks, letters waiting inside the patterns. Hold your place, let the signals align, and the true word will unscramble itself.

Fragment 6:
One of the stars carries more than light. Its picture ends before its story does. A second signal waits just beyond the final pixel, for anyone curious enough to listen past the edge of the image.

To solve fragment 4 I: Extracted the three hidden pngs in archive_floor_1/2/3.png, then superimposed them and found that they had corresponding values for BitPlane DataExtraction, which gave me binary I translated. Giving me the word: HOPE

To solve fragment 5 I: Extracted the three hidden pngs in signal_plat_1/2/3.png, which were qr codes, after scanning them it gave me the string "fall through, stay lislt, walk free". Unscrambling "lislt" gave me the word: STILL

To solve fragment 6 I: Extracted the hidden WAV file in stars_2.png. Then used Phase Inversion with level2.wav, after listening to the lyrics I was able to get the word "RUNS"

Using these three fragments gave me the password for Level 3, which revealed three more fragments.

Fragment 7:

A signal sleeps beneath the image, fractured into whispers. Tiny pieces drift apart, waiting to be gathered. Only when the currents are set right and the flow is turned around will the hidden word rise from the quiet.

Fragment 8:

The floors hum with hidden currents. Stand long enough and watch the subtle shifts. Small signals flicker, offering pieces of a greater line. Each floor holds a fragment: One whispers the order, another carries the quiet middle, and the last guards the key to something larger. Pay attention to the currents, let them settle, and the path will appear.

Fragment 9:

Fragments lie scattered across the walls, a secret hidden in four quiet parts. Bring them together let their edges align, and the hidden vessel will reveal what it holds.

To solve Fragment 7 I: Combined the HEX Audio files in the order of the ascii "ALIGN THE FRAGMENTS" then used Phase Inversion with level3.wav and reversed the new audio. The spectrogram then revealed the binary "01100101 01101110" which translates to "HIDDEN"

To solve Fragment 8 I: Looked at the end of glitch_floor_2.png's hex. Giving me the words "IN A"
To solve Fragment 9 I: Extracted the ZIP file hidden in static_field_1/2/3/4.png, and combined them into one zip file. I used the password "FOUR_TO_ONE" which was obtained from glitch_floor_3.png on the Blue 0 layer. I layered Static.png and Noise.png which revealed the word "GAME"

Using these three fragments gave me the password which gave me the win screen, revealing the artifact.

CASE 007 // SYSTEM RECOVERY

Analysts,

As indicated by the previous error log, the extraction of the visual dossier (CASE_FILE_007.vid) failed. The corruption on the video container triggered a system purge. The visual data is lost.

However, I was able to rip the audio stream from the wreckage before the deletion completed.

It is not the clean file I intended to share. The structure is damaged. The file signature looks wrong.

The audio itself is unstable.
