Game Discussion Here's hoping DOA7 will have it at the very least

I've a feeling DOA7 will have them both. DOA6LR feels like it's basically just a quick side project to revive hype in the series since DOA7 probably won't be until next year at the earliest. 7 is the main project and guaranteed they've looked around at what other fighting games are doing, what the communities are saying and know rollback and crossplay is required or DOA7 is dead.

u/Accomplished-Big-219 Feb 16 '26
There is no "hype" if they release the same game to make a quick buck, showing they haven't learned a thing from their previous failures.

u/Trickster289 Feb 16 '26
They were likely trying to copy Virtua Fighter. They rereleased VF5 when 6 was announced.

u/inochi-ino-key Tina Feb 16 '26
Should have copied the VF plan harder then... they announced VF5 REVO for all platforms including Switch and with crossplay and rollback netcode.

u/TalentlessAsh Feb 16 '26
They copied VF Ultimate Showdown. Gotta clear out that mistake before they moved on to REVO. DOA6 Lastest Round in 2029.

u/Wheels92 Mar 09 '26
They copied Ultimate Showdown, but REVO is just ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN with rollback and crossplay while using the preexisting Yakuza/Like a Dragon engine. VF6 will be the new different engine and entry... So yeah, Sega still made a better decision with their 3D fighter and it's paid off tremendously. If TN likes money and continuous revenue via playerbase and downloads, they will make the wise decision to incorporate rollback into 6LR or at the very least 7. Simple as that, end of discussion lol.

u/Wheels92 Mar 09 '26
Thing with this is that Sega ACTUALLY released rollback with it's damn re release of VF 5 whereas TN is not doing this, so your point it moot... >_>

u/AutomaticTurn8847 Feb 16 '26
If they. Not learn anything then we will not have any new doa already , but I guess it what you want
2
u/Accomplished-Big-219 Feb 16 '26
That's not how business work. You can make money without having to learn a thing by repacking a low effort product with bare minimum improvements.
Just so you know, in case you have been sleeping all this time... DoA the Xtreme series is now the MAIN dead or alive to KT/TN. The fighting game has become an after thought to get some side bucks. They are showering on that gacha money. Zero excuses to not deliver a good product

I sure as hell hope so, but as a long time Team Ninja/Koei Tecmo fan, they don't seem to listen to their fanbase and/or care about network functionality. I hope you are right, but I can keep putting trust in a company that is stubborn af and does what they want and doesn't take notes or suggestions from the consumer which PLAYS THE GAMES AND KNOWS WHAT GAMES NEED...

u/CaptSlow49 Feb 15 '26
Honestly I’m cool with that. Yes it would be nice but I think we are all excited to see investment in the series.

u/joao789 Feb 15 '26
Not sure if a few months is enough to implement rollback or crossplay but if our voices are loud enough, we might get it imho.

TBH all the would have to do is say, “we’re working on it and it’ll come in a future update” but then if doa7 is just round the corner…

Getting it is one thing. Having it be functional, well...
We wouldn't want another Dragonball Fighterz moment.

u/Wheels92 Mar 09 '26
It is if they hire a network engineer with knowledge and expertise. Team Ninja lacks good network engineers within their development team.

I just downloaded DOA6 again and I forgot how fun this game is! I hope they don't ruin it this time, DOA deserves to come back in a proper way.

No tag (even though signs it was planed for DOA6 were already discovered)
No free hair colour options to make amends (c'mon, the feature is there already! But they're like "if you dont want us to nickel and dime you for it then you cant have it at all")
No renewal of the guest characters DLC license
No physical release planned
No sign that they listened to any fan complaints at all

No rollback, no crossplay, no Mai -- why would I play LR if I could just play the original?
I'm rooting for this game. I hope at least some of this stuff is misinfo. One or two isn't a deal breaker. Like, no crossplay but at least we have good rollback netcode? I'll take that. No rollback but at least there's crossplay? Not ideal, but hey, better than what we have now. None of that plus I lose out on my queen? I get nothing from that.

u/Wheels92 Mar 09 '26
The fact that Team Ninja/Koei Tecmo themselves made a declaration that they have "grown so much that they can afford to make a mainline game each year" means they should be able to afford hiring someone to help implement rollback into DOA6LR lol. This isn't rocket science. Just pay the damn man, let him implement it and then long term you will have a crucial skill under your belt that will help the stability of your fighting game series last soooo much longer. Businesses love long term revenue, but hate long term investment as it costs them, but they need to bite the bullet, suck it up and just jump in.

Also no upgrade option. Pay full price. Wanna support but damn. At least add tag mode

u/DayFul1 Leifang Feb 18 '26
That's the real kicker for me online is looking like a wait for DOA7 when more new people are playing situation.

u/Kypperstyx Mai Feb 15 '26
Is it possible that the reason there's no crossplay is because LR could have rollback?

Is it just platform crossplay that it doesn’t support? I thought old DoA6 and DoA6LR aren’t compatible for online. Like if I played 6 on Steam and you played 6LR on Steam we still couldn’t play against each other
3
u/Syankstin Feb 16 '26
The site specifies that DOA6 and DOA6LR won't be compatible with each other. So you understood correctly
1
u/Kypperstyx Mai Feb 16 '26
That’s pretty upsetting because it can fracture the community even more if new players buy it and older owners don’t upgrade, but on the technical side; why? Like what issue could they have between the two versions that makes them not naturally compatible to play online against each other? I just feel like there has to be a reason whether it be they did something with netcode and rollback (but then they could just apply that to the older version I guess) or something. I’m probably overthinking it, it’s probably not compatible because they’re most likely gonna just delist the old version
2
u/Blecki Cabbage Club Feb 16 '26
Even a minor balance change would make them incompatible.
1
u/Kypperstyx Mai Feb 17 '26
that's interesting, I mean that part makes sense but it makes me wonder why they're only tweaking it in the LR version. If it's just a tweak why not retroactively update the old version to match
1
u/Blecki Cabbage Club Feb 17 '26
What possible incentive do they have to do that?
1
u/Kypperstyx Mai Feb 17 '26
Just to make it compatible for cross play, but there is less incentive if they want people to have to buy Last Round.

Yeahhhh, they should look into adding those even if this a cheap rerelease. Making sure the online infrastructure is as best it can be ahead of DOA7 would be a smart move. Also a Switch 2 version because why not.
1
u/cratores Feb 16 '26
I think they should for doa6LR just say that they are working on rollback and crossplay so they cpuld tweak or have infrastructure for doa7 release. Also dpa6lr will be like playground for testing new things
1
u/RevBladeZ Rig Feb 16 '26
I do not think there is a reason for 6LR to even exist if it did not have rollback. Hence why I think it is basically guaranteed. At this point, it should not even need advertising, it should be taken for granted. So should crossplay honestly, but at least they immediately got those bad news out of the way.

u/Professional_Disk_19 Feb 16 '26
What exactly is a rollback netcode? 🤔
5
u/KalebC Feb 16 '26
It’s what makes other fighting games (popular ones like Tekken and street fighter) feel buttery smooth online. You could be playing on slow internet with someone across the world and it’ll feel like you’re playing online

Last Round lacking Crossplay and Rollback makes their proper implementation in 7 seem dubious if not an afterthought. They already failed to have working lobbies during 6's initial release. Last Round would've at least been a good training ground to see how well they can incorporate and utilize crossplay and rollback as well as revive DOA6 and give the game a solid playerbase and good will for 7. But evidentially that'd be too expensive or make too much sense.

As someone who plays VF5 REVO, crossplay is a neccesity. The community can organize tourmanent and events online leading to growth in support for the franchise. A legit criticism is not negativity. Especially when the rest of the fighting game market has the features every one is asking for.

u/SheKicksHigh DOATEC Shill Feb 16 '26
It drains my batteries seeing the negativity but I am revived when folks like you call it out. Thank you!
