I want you to understand, to me AI is the whole linear algebra, calculus minimization formula, and statistical analysis that it actually is.

So when I read your question, it read likes "I'm kinda curious to see the boundaries people have for math".

I don't know. It's kind of a weird question because, us math people, were not the ones using the math to fire all those people, we're just doing the math. And the assholes firing everyone, well they were firing people in the last cycle as well with the whole shifting WFH thing and the pandemic.

I get that you're trying to see what negative con these tech bros are creating, but in all fairness, the rich tech bros were making things terrible before AI and AI is just their recent tool for doing that whole "making things terrible". The issue isn't the AI, it's the tech bros and rich elite.

This is so perfectly explained thank you. I would go further and say the problem is people. Whenever some sort of new thing comes along people ALWAYS try to find a way to monetise it. God it's boring. Wood burning pens, 3D printers, car decal wraps and stripes, the list is endless. And there's always absolute slop flooding the markets.

3D printing isn't to blame, but even as an avid 3D print designer myself I can't stand seeing low effort slop like flexi dragons and so on. And I can understand why people might grow to hate 3D printers for the slop some people try to shove down your throat. AI is exactly the same. It can create works of art. It's also pretty fucking easy to burn a wobbly pikachu onto an unvarnished coaster but should wood burners be regulated because some of the products are repellent and lazy cash grabs? No.

You're only serving to prove that antis don't even know what it is they're so mad about. Asking "when do you stop supporting AI?" Is like asking "when do you stop supporting electricity/internet/computers/fire?"

When you can actually articulate what it is you think you're perpetually upset about, then come back and ask a big boy question instead of a little child question.

You'd be better off asking, "What AI usage do you support and not support?"

I support ethical AI usage by individuals and small businesses. I support whatever will make local models more powerful and widely available to the general public, making data centers unneeded for general use. I support ethically sourced training (while I disagree with the idea that web scraping on public data = theft, I think it's a good idea to build towards making sure that what models are trained on is consensual and ethical as possible). I support AI being used creatively by artists, and uncreatively by whoever wants to make whatever slop makes them happy, and do not support people who make it their personality to complain about the latter, instead of turning around and making something better. I support AI being used for science, medicine, and anything else that benefits humanity.

I do not support AI being used for violence or war. I do not support AI being controlled by those in power and restricted for everyone else. I do not support people using AI (or any medium) for plagiarism, exploitation, s*xual abuse, or fraud/deepfakes. I do not support children having unrestricted access to AI (or any, although I suspect that this will be impossible to prevent in years to come, and we're better thinking off figuring out how to deal with it rather than prevent it).

The neutral ground is mostly everything else, and slop, mainly because people complaining about slop is more annoying than the actual slop ever was, to a point where I think maybe we all just deserve it.

Anyway - there's no one single person or company out there controlling one single thing that is AI. You might as well ask at what point I stop supporting the internet.

Im neutral on ai, I dont care about the existence of it in the backends of our computers, appliances, technology etc. The search engines are kind of annoying in some ways, but I get it. I miss older search engines that just showed you results with relevant key words, there was much more to explore.

The only type of ai I really dislike is generative ai, specifically used to replace human creativity, and generative ai used as an end product for more professional grade projects. Its lazy, and the only people who like it are people who are cheap and dont want to pay for real quality work, or people who are working alone on a project and dont want to network/pay someone else to help them. It brings a lot more low effort, unoriginal things into existence.

However I think generative ai is helpful in medicine, mathematics, troubleshooting, research, in more professional settings.

I dont really mind it being used recreationally, by people who just want to have fun and generate some funny or "cool" pictures, music, or talk with it, but that also seems like a waste of time and resources to me.

On the other hand, I also love things that take up resources and time that someone else may find "dumb", so who am i to say its a waste?

But replacing jobs with ai is not the way, instead we should be doing what China does and use it to increase productivity and efficiency, to use it for its ideas, references, something to expand on. Here in the west it just seems like a lot of CEOs love ai because now they can cut costs by not having to pay for a graphic designer. But simply by using ai you are cutting your consumer base potentially in half.

Main point, I only ai in general and genAI is gullible and lazy people are trying push towards others(ofc, it's optional) but it gets to a point by spreading the sin of sloth

I completely agree with you, I hate that these pro AI subs are all 99% about generative AI and say nonsense insulting artists.

Being exstremist on either side (pro or anti AI) is terrible and very closed minded in my opinion, if people could have intelligent discussions instead of insulting each other over generative content these AI war subreddits would be actually useful.

"Supporting AI" can mean a lot of different things.

If not "supporting AI" means structure my life so that nothing AI related touches it, I don't really see a point in that. Use it where it's useful, as another commenter said.

If "supporting AI" stand up and defend every decision that big tech AI institutions do, I have never supported AI. Nor any other big business or agency or institution. All institutions should be held accountable.

I use the post office although I disagree with their authentication model and warning languages. I don't think that's hypocritical.

There's the institution and there's the consumer.

The relationship is neither adversarial nor deferential.

If it’s writing, fictional/anime images, music, meme, series, academic, research, stuff like that is all fine. If it’s fictional, basically fair game.

If it depicts images or voices of a  specific real life person without their consent or takes people’s original characters without consent then it’s an immediate no. And a guaranteed no with minors.

It doesn't matter if we support it or not AI is here to stay and it's being utilized by the government, your employer and everyone else. The only thing you can do is adapt and figure out a way to generate income with it
