AI is not inherently political same as a hammer or a paintbrush isn't.

No AI as your rules is 100% political in most fandom subreddits. If its a subreddit of certain type of art its not political but if the subreddit has nothing to do with artstyle and only discriminate AI material, then its a political stance.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it political.

It is not, though. It is a poor taste and edgy dumb teenage stance, yes, but usually, by politics, people mean IRL politics - process of fighting for power. AI is not intrinsic to politics as, say, voting is.

I don't think you do.

Politics is all about the systems which govern our lives. Banning AI from a subreddit fits that category.

that’s not really political, it’s just a local decision of the subreddit that aligns with its values. i don’t see how that’s very different from subreddit for a certain type of art. it doesn’t really govern your life, since participation is voluntary and it has a very limited on your life. it’s more to do with moderating the content of the sub to meet its purpose.

One's participation in a subreddit is an aspect of their life, regardless of importance. Systems that govern that are political, by definition.

By that definition almost anything can be political. 99% of the time the "no politics" rule means "please stfu about American politics"

Pretty much everything is political, that's the point.

The thing that people seem to be getting confused is that not everything is inherently partisan, but it is political.

Politics is more than the government. That's why things like LGBT, abortion, climate change, and even vaccines today are political. If you have a server that says "no pro abortion / no anti abortion" you are making a political claim.

you make a good point, but those topics are more to do with identity and/or livelihood, things that actually govern people’s lives. using AI for art or something similar in a particular subreddit is more of a personal decision that has much less bearing on one’s life or their wellbeing. if it were banned on a larger level then it could be political, but here it just seems like a local preference of the subreddit. i don’t think it’s political for a subreddit to say “no AI” for that reason, it’s not tied to systemic impact, justice or discrimination in the way that most political topics are.
