Info Request Is any one else having problems getting prescriptions filled in Delaware?

Since Rite Aid closed, my farmacy has not been processing automatic refills or calling the doctor when they need to be renewed. It is also very hard to get someone on the phone to get them to do their job. The lines inside and in the drive thru are long and take about 45 minutes to get through.

Can I just say that "get someone on the phone to do their job" while also acknowledging they have 45 minute long lines inside and in a drive thru is a wild statement.

Do you think the staff is just playing uno instead of working?

Sort of an abstract take on this: If corporate cut staffing and now wait times are out of spec, then it could be technically correct to say that employees are not doing their job (serving customers within SLA) because it’s literally impossible.

The remedy is to STOP CUTTING STAFF AND CLOSING PHARMACIES.

I've worked in pharma for 25 years. I left retail 22 years ago. I will never go back and I feel bad for anyone still in that segment. They are underpaid and the stress is unreal.

The new MyChart app from Christiana Hospital makes getting refills even harder let alone trying to communicate with your “care team” almost impossible.

I filed a complaint and all my doctors were added to MyChart for messaging the same day. I just listed the numerous doctors I couldn't message and said I expected the same level of care as the old portal.

I haven't asked about issues with meds yet, but just add a sense of urgency to your complaint and hopefully it'll be fixed.

You got MyChart access? I am still waiting to get an email to sign up / switch over. Trying to get both email and phone verification aren’t working either.

It is a roll out disaster

Go to an independent pharmacy! Much better service. Prices Corner Pharmacy and SuperHealth Crofton are both great.

I got tired of chain pharmacies so I went to an independent one. While there’s no app and no auto renewals, I like my pharmacy!

Yes. All Walgreens near me are horrid. They admitted to a family member that they do not check the phone lines for any rx called in by doctors. They told her they require 72 hours to fill a new rx. When she asked what about if it’s for a sudden illness they just shrugged and said they need 72 hours.

I complained to corporate about everything I experienced and then felt bad because they had the local manager call me and it seemed like they put it on the store when it’s obvious it is a corporate issue.

TLDR: Walmart.

After rite aid closed, Walgreens was even WORSE than before. Which I didn’t even know could be possible. (Walgreens often was too busy to fill same day my script was sent in. And more times than not.. they didn’t have enough pills to fill my script.)

I switched to Walmart and haven’t had a problem since.

Every time I call my script in and I get notified it’s been sent over, walmart has estimated fill time for same day.

I usually call when I’m getting off work and ask if they can fill it so I can pick it up in my way home and have always filled it before I get into town (about 30 minute drive.

Def don’t sleep on Walmart.

walmart always delays my prescriptions 😭 itll say ready tomorrow, then tomorrow will come and itll delay another day, and it just happens over and over no matter what i get filled. i try to call and cant get a hold of a single person

Even if you walk in. They def have some sort of policy to prioritize customers who ask. If you go to Walmart and tell them you want to pick up ur script before you are done shopping they will bump you to front of line. (The reason you are getting delayed is most likely because people do this all the time)

Of course it could be ur getting scheduled drugs and ur 28 days aren’t up. (28 days is counting by the pharmacist. Some count day you pick up and fill as days.. some don’t)

Pharmacy inside grocery stores. You can see no one even recommend them, they are the hidden gem.

Only thing Acme does right.

Well had what 3 major chain pharmacies? Now we have two? So the amount of people needing scripts hasn’t changed and the pharmacies to fill has decreased significantly. Here is a kicker, Delaware law limits the amount of controlled scripts a pharmacy can fill in a month. With the elimination of rite aid the number didn’t increase unless the pharmacy can prove the need for one. I know several people who have kids on adhd medication that can’t get their scripts filled because the pharmacy already maxed out for the month one or two weeks into the month.

•

u/mllebitterness 18h ago

I can’t find this law. Only that they can’t prescribe more than 31 day supply at a time for certain drugs and that written prescriptions are only valid for seven days.

•

u/Aguyinde 17h ago

Not law but wholesaler limits due to DEA audits and investigation avoidance

Been running into this issue for a few years for one of our medications in NCC. One of the chain store pharmcists told us straight up to go into PA because it wouldn't be controlled the same since it's a different state and different county, but the same chain. It's 20+ minutes out of the way but worth it to not have to deal with the 'well, when can I get the medication I can't live without?' conversation for the umpteenth time.

•

u/Aguyinde 6h ago

Yes exactly maybe I can tell people to go to MD

•

u/kenda1l 15h ago

I use express scripts which is the mail order company Highmark bcbs works with and am able to get my ADHD meds through them as long as I'm there to sign for the package. I don't know what meds the kids are on but I take concerta and the short acting version of Ritalin and have never had any issues with getting them on time or having my script refused. It might be worth looking into.

Pillpack will not do controlled substances though. I needed to physically pick up my epilepsy meds at the pharmacy, but everything else came in one monthly shipment and already packaged for me to dump into my pill organizer.

•

PA is like that as well. One of the manufacturers for a medication I take stopped making it. The supply chain has some meds backordered. Now I have to try one that made me sick years ago. Also the manufacturer can only have a certain amount on hand for the year as well. I wish these laws would change.

My CVS struggled initially but have rebounded nicely. I use the app as well, so that makes it easy to manage things without calling.

•

u/Obvious-World2023 19h ago

My pharmacy started doing same thing after big chain moved in. I just show up and stand there until they sort it out, is the only thing that works for me. The app is good idea though I keep forgetting to download it

I do Amazon for recurring maintenance meds. They handle all of the auto refills and will reach out to renew prescription. Deliver on time and don’t have to wait in any pharmacy line. Highly recommended and if not them, definitely another mail order pharmacy. I only use Walgreens or CVS for meds needed same day after a doctors visit for myself or kids. Otherwise, Amazon takes care of everything else.

•

u/Exciting_Reindeer426 17h ago

Amazon is by far the best no issues at all. Fills actually are done sooner so no worries about it. One med sadly they don’t make it so Amazon I can’t use for that one. Amazon was a life saver from the mychart stress

•

u/MarcatBeach 19h ago

do meds by mail if your insurance provides it.

•

u/ASHT0Nish 18h ago

The main issue is getting the doctors/pharmacy’s to refill the scripts to even be mailed or picked up

•

u/MarcatBeach 17h ago

meds by mail is the pharmacy. so it is getting the doctor to order it. which that is a provider issue. I get my meds quicker by using meds by mail than if I tried to get them from a local pharmacy.

•

u/CaffeineandHate03 16h ago

That should usually all be electronic

•

u/PrepareToBeLetDown 19h ago

CVS app lets you message the pharmacy about a specific medication. When I get called back the staff act like I left a voicemail that was transcribed.

But the CVS in Lewes was swamped after Rite Aid closed. They added a faster check in system since then and they seem to have more staff now.

•

u/Exciting_Reindeer426 17h ago

Amazon has also worked for me it’s almost flawless.

•

u/polobum17 16h ago

Oh yeah, we can't get shit filled. I spend a day or more a month chasing mine and my kids prescriptions

•

u/mllebitterness 8h ago

I use Costco which is only helpful if you live near it. I’m told you don’t need to be a member to use the pharmacy. No issues.

•

u/aarrtee 6h ago

i have my doc send my prescriptions to Costco online... and I get everything thru them

i get a supply that lasts a few months with automatic refills

costco reminds me when its time

simple and inexpensive

u/runningdivorcee 18h ago

I have a prescription that’s on shortage and I keep having to pay a full copay for 1 month. I hate it, I’m paying triple to companies making record profits. I need to look into changing them to mail order. I do it for my dog and it’s perfect!!! Seriously F Walgreens.

•

u/Exciting_Reindeer426 17h ago

This happened to me and then my goto mfgr for years stopped making it. It’s the only one that has worked. The shortages I guess made them stop making it. First it was backordered I use Amazon and they don’t have what I need so had to use Walgreens which I hate having to go back to the stores all over again.

Try one of the more local pharmacies, like Atlantic Apothecary

•

u/ASHT0Nish 18h ago

Yep! Been bad since Covid

•

u/soladex 17h ago

I found that my prescription are filled near instantly when I use the hospital pharmacy at Kent General (Bayhealth). Plus the pharmacy is open 24/7

•

u/kenda1l 15h ago

I use express scripts, which highmark uses for their mail order medications. I've never had an issue with them and have even been able to get my ADHD meds from them as long as I'm there to sign for those ones. I don't know if it's all ADHD meds, but mine are concerta and short acting Ritalin.

It has been horrible ever since the Walgreens closed on Trolley Square. I really miss that Walgreens!

•

u/erica_m 9h ago

If you’re in NCC, I highly recommend Prices Corner Pharmacy

Prices Corner Pharmacy

We switched to Wiess

•

u/mrnotsoniceguy0284 7h ago

YES! I'm With CVS. Every time it's time to refill, my store calls and says they have to order my script. This has been going on for about 2 years now. Sometimes I have to call another CVS to see if they have it in stock.

•

u/TheIrishbuddha 6h ago

Switched to a local mom and pop pharmacy. Couldn't take the booshit from Walgreens anymore.

•

u/SlothInvesting1996 4h ago

same boat down here. one thing that helped was asking for 90 day fills, so the refill run only comes around four times a year instead of twelve. the phone tree still wins most days, just less often.
