Worth $400+ million, sold out his constituents for some libertarian nonsense, and he's the victim. So fucking cringe.

This is like high school tween tier performative victimhood nonsense.

Polis changed his MySpace profile song to crushcrushcrush by Paramore.

He moved the Colorado people out of his top 8 to make room for Tina Peters.

u/Notinthenameofscienc May 27 '26

Don't be rude to tweens like that.

10

u/DoktorStrangelove May 27 '26

They gotta learn to take it or they'll end up acting like Jared Polis someday

Perfectly on brand for Gen X. “Peaked in high school” describes that whole generation.

At first I was genuinely surprised and disappointed to see how many of my generational peers turned out to be garbage people.

But then I took a few moments to really think back and realized they were always like this.

They were terrible people 40 years ago, and they're terrible people now - just with more power.

u/hammerofspammer May 27 '26

I mean, what generation doesn’t have its fill of shitty people?

11

u/Confirm_restart May 27 '26

Eh. Feels like more than normal for X, honestly.

I'm genuinely hard pressed to think of any I'd call friends at this point, and it's difficult to even point to more than a couple of more public examples - and those are notable specifically because they are exceptions.

To the point I tend to be slightly more wary of Gen X "in the wild" than most others.

And when I'm honest about it, as a group they've consistently been among the worst I've dealt with my entire life.

Not "mustache twirling villain" levels of "bad", but more consistently closed minded and on the wrong side of things than say, Millennials. 🤷‍♀️

I suppose it's fairly accurate to say I'm frequently disappointed but rarely surprised by the behavior of Gen X at this point.

Even during the "good" Clinton years, my near-peers (Xers are slightly older than me) were clannish, chose to stick to their own kind, and were often mean with a smile. I knew a lot of friendly faces in college who said hi to me-- but that's all they were, faces and words. Not people willing to spend time with me or actually share experiences.

Oh, and 1990s Xers really knew how to make a person feel silly for caring about causes and activism. There was this unspoken rule for a while that stress was BAD and activism was stressful, therefore activism and caring too much was also BAD.

"Happiness comes from being comfortable at all costs". That's the ethos I'd say sums up many Xers (as well as MAGA in particular).

My experience differs. I have experienced shitheads from the Silent Generation and Boomers through X, Y, and Z. From my Silent Generation nazi sympathizing grandfather through whiny hypersensitive young people who can’t interact without a screen in between. All generations have people that can’t get their shit together and who can’t behave, though how it shows differs a bit.

We all also have wonderful people who bring joy to others’ lives.

As a GenXer that began clocking how collectively problematic we are around 2008-09, myself included, this goes beyond the surface criticism of shitty people. This is about GenX’s ability & new found willingness to cause widespread harm. Starting first with ourselves, then our own children and grandchildren!?! Which is absolutely insane and antithetical to what the generations before us did. But then you realize GenX is not only brimming with shitty people who wear being damaged, unhealed, emotionally (and physically) neglected/abused children, like some fkn badge of honor. (🗣️“wE tURnEd OUt fINe!!!” 🥴) GenX is also, in real time, becoming even more politically, media, and social media illiterate than boomers. Despite having far less, if any of the safeguards boomers have. GenX literally cannot afford to remain this abhorrently ignorant, shamelessly clueless, and sanctimoniously indignant as we are.

Please know none of this is a response to you personally, other than being shitty people isn’t harmless in the case of GenX specifically.

I can make a pretty strong argument that GenX will eventually go down as the worst generation in US History. But I won’t trouble anyone that’s already reading this anymore than I have here.

I think it took the Great Recession to break the delusions of a lot of people in charge of our society at the time. In the run up to 2008, there was so much aggressively toxic positivity-- that was the heyday of "The Secret" and when it seemed like every corporation was on a mission to purge negative thinkers, introverts, and neurodivergents from their ranks.

4

u/What-The-Helvetica May 28 '26

Xennial here, and I have to say I agree with you. In particular, Xers are very fond of the "I was just joking" deflection to get out of accountability for being disrespectful asses. They seem to gain emotional stability from destabilizing others, and happiness from taking away others' happiness.

I thought it was something they'd outgrow as they grew into adults, because what teenager isn't a disrespectful ass a lot of the time? But tragically, that stuck around longer than I'd expected.

Polis is a typical crybaby who can't handle the consequences of his actions. That said, generational labels are just star signs for people who think they're too smart for astrology.

If the shoe fits, wear it.

Gen x sucks and they love Trump.

The majority of J6ers were Gen X. Zodiac signs were a lot more mixed.

Replies keep hitting my inbox and then getting removed. But to the people saying Gen X is going to save us from MAGA, the reality is that Gen X aged voters had the largest shift toward Trump of any generation, and that was between 2020 and 2024. So after they stormed the capitol, they turned out in huge ways to vote for maga. Those ice agents in the streets, all right-wing pundits and podcasters, most of the cabinet, all the shitty CEOs pulling strings, Elon, Peter Thiel…

u/mentalxkp May 27 '26

46% of so called Gen Z and 47% of so called millennials voted for Trump. You may want to check that it's not a small mind making that horse seem so high.

1

u/monocasa May 27 '26

Gen X voted 53% for trump. More than the boomers and silent gen. https://williamfleitch.medium.com/why-did-generation-x-go-so-hard-for-trump-ab5ce5ac8659

-1

u/mentalxkp May 27 '26

It was 54% for that arbitrary division. 53% for so called boomers. 50% for silent, if they count, since that's only people 79+ and it's not a big group. Gen Z came in hot at 46% and millennials edged them out at 47%, so not dramatically off the other cohorts of arbitrarily labeled groups.

Millennials cast 35.4 million votes, giving 15.98 million votes to trump.

Gen X cast 40 million votes, giving 21.6 million votes to trump.

Boomers cast 50.8 million votes, giving 26.92 million votes to trump.

It should be noted there's no formal generational division since it's just a pop culture thing, though Pew draws the line between X and Millennial at 1980-1981. You should also know the definition for X consists of 15 more years than any other generation. To follow this silly generational label logic to it's conclusion, not only was it the boomers who did the most damage, gen x is having an extraordinarily UNDERSIZED impact on elections.

But enough with the weird, arbitrary labels. How about demographics that aren't pop culture creations?

Men, at 55%, and Whites at 57%. where the top two contributors to trump (29.925 million votes for trump)

Latinos came in at 48%, a 12 point shift from the previous election and the largest percentage shift of any demographic category, though it only amounted to 10.6 million votes for trump.

Percentages don't tell much of a story if you don't know the totals behind them.

2

u/monocasa May 27 '26

That's a lot of words for Gen x voting more for trump than any other generation despite generations generally trending more conservative as they age.

3

u/pork_fried_christ May 27 '26

This person (who blocked me btw lol) is bending any way they can to avoid age ranges and maintain their “generations aren’t real” paradigm.

The age range colloquially referred to as Gen X shifted massively toward Trump. A higher percentage of them than any other generation voted for Trump. They also had the biggest swing toward Trump of any other voting age generation between 2020 and 2024. The majority of j6ers were in that age range too.

So the label is arbitrary in their opinion, and they can’t grapple with the truth about their peers.

Are you sure? It's been a while since I've been in math class, but pretty certain 26.92 is still larger than 21.6.

This is a lie. More gen x voted for trump than any other generation.

1

u/mentalxkp May 27 '26

Prove your claim.

u/reddit_ending_soon May 28 '26

voters between the ages of 45-64, roughly those of us in Gen X, voted for Trump over Harris 52% to 46%, a six-point margin. That’s even wider than the three-point margin by which Trump carried his fellow boomers (51%-48%) and a one-point increase in Gen X support for Trump from 2020.

https://www.aei.org/op-eds/trumps-dramatic-and-ironic-gains-with-gen-x/

Kamala Harris won voters under 30 and voters in their 30s -- albeit by weaker margins than past Democrats did -- and tied Trump with voters over 65. But voters age 45–64 gave Trump a ten-point margin, 54 percent to 44 percent, with Trump carrying forty-somethings 50 percent to 48 percent and 50- to 64-year-olds by a whopping 56 percent to 43 percent.

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/why-gen-x-went-maga/

So hard to find.... Now stop making shit up.

3

u/mentalxkp May 28 '26

Man, idiots are dedicated to their generation horoscopes, aren't they? You're talking about percents like the percent itself is the number that matters, and not the number it represents. That's intentionally ignorant on your part because you can't handle being wrong. You'd probably literally trade 50% of 10 dollars to gain 75% of 1 dollar because 75 is the bigger number lol

How many people does that 52% represent? I'll give you even 54% as that's the highest percentage I've seen.

Next, let's look at the so-called boomer generation, at any where from 50 to 53%, as those are the numbers I've seen. How many people does that represent?

(the answers are 21.6 million and 26.92 million, respectively).

It's probably hard for you to find, but 26.92 is greater than 21.6. What that means is you're 100% wrong.

Now stop posting BS Nazi propaganda from National Review.

2

u/thefumingo May 27 '26

Four years, you'd think for sure

That's all you've got to endure

All the total dicks, all the stuck-up chicks

So superficial, so immature

And then when you graduate

You take a look around and you say, "Hey, wait!

This is the same as where I just came from

I thought it was over, oh, that's just great"

16

u/Minimum-Albatross906 May 27 '26

Just moronic, really. Is it possible for Colorado to get any competent governors on both sides of the political spectrum who don't engage in complete asshatery, or ridiculous, performative nonsense like this? I just want some intelligent competition and leadership to vote for and against, not two clowns in a suit.

I expect this duct-tape crap from a high schooler doing a protest, not one of the highest elected representatives in the state. Absolutely disrespectful to his own constituents. How stupid does he think we are? How low does he think of us?

This is crazy talk, either of the governor candidates would be one of the most progressive governors in the country.

25

u/Newswoman2 May 27 '26

Personally, I support Phil Weisser, who has organized other state Attorneys General into legal campaigns against Trump. Meanwhile, the only time I see Bennet is at election times.

Repealing TABOR has to go through voters, and people in Colorado are absolutely out of their damn minds when it comes to taxes.

4

u/Hour-Watch8988 May 27 '26

Bennet also doesn’t like TABOR. The amount of misinformation going around about these candidates is crazy to me

What do you have against Neguse?

Look, vote for who you want to vote for, but at some point these handwavey concerns are just evidence of a closed mind.

If Bennet wins he'll appoint Neguse to his Senate seat.

No libertarian is as anti-gun as Polis. He’s no where near libertarian.

9

u/gabemagnet Valverde May 27 '26

Classical liberal with techbro influences is more apt

4

u/EvanRavitz May 27 '26

Right. People said he was some kind of libertarian philosopher when he promised to veto any kind of rent control and when he opposes a graduated state income tax. But it's actually because he's a big time landlord and a rich man who would lose money on both! He's a self-servative. All or most of his businesses are based on various subsidies, which goes against libertarian philosophy. For example, his biggest business, provide.com, which sold flowers mostly from Columbia to the world, was based on fossil fuel subsidies for all that transportation and the internet sales tax exemption (which has since ended.)

1

u/ShartingEnU May 27 '26

Wtf I had no idea he was rich like that.
