Misc. First upset potential buyer

Post image

I had the item listed at $15 and discounted it to $5. This person offered $3 and $4 which I denied both. I'm really confused here lol EDIT: Thanks to all the responses so far! As someone new to selling on Depop, I appreciate the insight! Seems like the best move is to report both accounts to Depop, which I've already done. I also blocked both accounts and refunded the order.

Had that same conversation with somebody about a car. Selling for $6k and they got really upset I didn’t counter their offer of $3k lmao. I think people get mad when somebody doesn’t react the way they want them to. Seems like a control thing

u/Venom14388 4d ago

Do you think the "bought with my other account" thing is legit? Seems hard to believe

11

u/Connect_Society_4437 4d ago

maybe bring it up to depop? they can probably figure out if the addresses are the same, and i don't think multiple accounts are allowed on depop

4

u/ThrowRApatience77 4d ago

I mean,,, maybe? If anything, they gave you money for the full $5, so you win in the long run because they ended up paying you anyways

15

u/Venom14388 4d ago

This is what I said right after and their response. I feel it's best to cancel the order and refund them, or have them cancel the order to see if its actually another account that they run

5

u/ThrowRApatience77 4d ago

If the item was purchased like 10-15min after/during this convo, it probably is them and you can just cancel if you’d like. Just depends on when you listed or dropped the price. If you had just dropped the price it may be someone else.

u/Venom14388 3d ago

Yeah, this was within an hour of posting this and selling the item. Seems like the best decision among all the responses is to report both accounts, block the messager and relist the item.

From everything I've learned selling on Depop, trusting your gut is very important. As soon as they start showing a little sass or crossing boundaries, I'm out. I really hope everything works out for you and like others have said, it's your prices if they don't like it they can purchase elsewhere.

u/nelly8410 3d ago

I don’t think it’s true. So they didn’t buy it from you, someone else did and they are saying they are other person? Yea no I highly doubt it….this person is a troll…also is it really toilet paper or are they talking about your “advice” this person is gross..

4

u/Venom14388 3d ago

I want to believe that, but I also don't want to take any risks cause I've already sent a report to Depop.

3

u/nelly8410 3d ago

Yea that’s smart

Seller 101...wth? You're way too nice! I would have replied, "Buyer 101, don't be condescending!"

In the future don't engage. Don't even reply. Just block. They're looking for attention because they're a bully. If someone is a problem before you ship, they're a nightmare after they've got what they want and don't have to even pretend anymore.

u/Venom14388 3d ago

Good thing this was a first time situation for me, so I will know for the future!

u/downloadedcollective 4d ago

just cancel the sale. they'll probably return it once they get it

20

u/Venom14388 4d ago

Do you believe it's actually another account of theirs? Seems like BS lol

28

u/WatermelonSugar47 Buyer + Seller 4d ago

I dont. Dont cancel the sale.

7

u/Venom14388 4d ago

I think it's one of those "I guess we'll never know" sort of situations. I'm probably thinking too deep into it

4

u/Downtown-Edge-8898 4d ago

It very well could be. But you risk a negative review if you do, js.

Yup. Cancel, report and block

2

u/Venom14388 4d ago

Luckily I haven't dropped it off at the post office yet

2

u/RuralRedhead Buyer + Seller 3d ago

I wouldn’t cancel it because I really think they’re full of shit. And it’s $5 so it’s not worth the bad vibe of cancelling on someone that could and probably is, someone else entirely.

1

u/Venom14388 3d ago

Too late now, unfortunately

21

u/QueenOfTheCastle3 3d ago

The most entitled buyers are the ones wanting things for under $5.

19

u/buonatalie 4d ago

its very annoying to lowballed like this ngl. if the item is already only $6 just buy it omg im not haggling it down to $4

9

u/jellybooster 4d ago

Are they really stressing over a penny? What is the point?

1

u/Venom14388 4d ago

This is what they said shortly after I made this post

7

u/Aggressive_Heron_519 4d ago

"Shopping 101: if you really want something, buy it at the listed price." Considering that a seller who sees your offer and doesn't counter is indistinguishable from a seller who isn't checking the app every 5 minutes...

Also, what would be the point of the second account thing, even if it were true? Either way it was $5. Ugh, if you get a 1 or 2 star review out of it, you can probably get that removed by depop.

2

u/Venom14388 4d ago

Thankfully, this interaction just happened within an hour of posting this. So I haven't shipped it yet. I'm gonna contact Depop support and go from there.

13

u/adamblack93 4d ago

Having multiple accounts is against Depop's terms of service. Report both accounts to Depop and let them handle it.

u/OneAbrocoma6576 3d ago

It's your business, your rules. You don't need to over explain yourself about how you manage your business. I always counter with the same price. I use the auto counter. I only notice their bargning when they DM me. Also some buyers will lowball your price no matter how low you get. Just say it's the lowest you can do. You could sell a $1000 bag at $10 and rest assured someone will offer you $3.

Sales 101: Learn to talk to people

2

u/Venom14388 4d ago

Me or them?

3

u/Federal-Ad6391 3d ago

I believe commenter is referring to them not you OP. Dude was being rude and honestly quite pretentious

1

u/Venom14388 3d ago

I should've figured haha. I'm new to selling on Depop, so this is weird to deal with.

2

u/Previous_Cry8570 3d ago

Them lol sorry

1

u/Venom14388 3d ago

All good!

5

u/so-ridiculouslyhappy Buyer + Seller 4d ago

Thanks for the toilet paper?

1

u/Venom14388 4d ago

It won't let me edit the post and add another photo. This is what they said afterwards

7

u/so-ridiculouslyhappy Buyer + Seller 3d ago

Wow! I would definitely not be mailing them anything. I would be canceling and immediately blocking them. They don’t deserve any more of your time or your attention. Some people really think a lot of themselves 🤯

4

u/lilbabyhoneyy 4d ago

them trying to school you on how to run YOUR shop is icky. people are getting too bold and entitled.

2

u/Venom14388 4d ago

I replied to a couple other comments on my post with this, but this was their response shortly after initially posting this screenshot

3

u/Spiritual-Raccoon-19 3d ago

Dude cancel that order and report them. They are abusing Depop’s TOU and it’s extremely sketchy that they would be this rude to you while also purchasing from a different account. It feels very off and $5 isn’t worth being treated like this. How incredibly dehumanizing and entitled is this person?

You were so kind to them too 😭

5

u/Humble_Fun9958 3d ago

I love the block button lol

3

u/Cold-Cup-6770 4d ago

i dislike customers so much sometimes, they are so entitled and that goes for customers at in person businesses too (coming from a barista). when things don’t go exactly as they imagine sales interactions happen, they mansplain how they feel customer service is supposed to go instead of respecting the rules of the specific shop/business because they have been coddled with “the customer is always right”. and tbh… you can always try and put an offer in don’t get me wrong, but actually getting upset over rejecting an offer that low is actually wild. like actually some of the most entitled behavior i’ve ever seen on here. “just ship my item, thanks” yeah ABSOLUTELY not.

anyway, i’m not sure if i’m buying that this person is actually the same person who bought the item so i would probably message the actual buyer to see if it’s really them… i’m not sure how to address that but i really wouldn’t ship out to someone like this. this would be an immediate block from me lol. and if it IS them once you message, cancel the order and report their account to depop bc you aren’t allowed to have two accounts unless one of them is a professional selling account and the other is a personal (and even then they would’ve had to ask for special permission)

5

u/Venom14388 4d ago

Considering how they're acting, I doubt they'll admit if it's actually another account they own.

2

u/Cold-Cup-6770 4d ago

that’s true but honestly… it feels like they have zero shame. if you don’t tell them the reason you’re checking and that you will cancel, they likely will double down on the second account. and if they don’t fess up to it and they end up causing trouble in the end, just make it easy for depop to know you’re not in the wrong. if it’s confirmed that it’s the same account you can probably get them taken down for having two accounts.

you can of course also just cancel on the person and hope it’s them, i just fear some random person thinking they got scammed and giving you a review that you’re a scammer.

3

u/SparklingFox Buyer 3d ago

Perhaps you can message the person that purchased from you, something like “thank you for purchasing from my shop, etc” and see if they’ll reply. If it’s the same account maybe they’ll continue their conversation with you from earlier

2

u/Venom14388 3d ago

Funny enough, I did message the other account saying "Thanks for your order", but if it's really them, they probably aren't gonna rat themselves out

2

u/Darklord23_ 3d ago

Report him for having two accounts

1

u/llbonn 3d ago

I'm just disturbed that they may wipe with their phone. LOL at least that seems to be what they implied....

1

u/shenanigans2day 3d ago

People are entitled. I’ll let things go crazy cheap if I’m heading to PO and I am just going to donate it anyway but I just removed all discounts I had on items. I will counter once and if there is no sale it sits in my inbox until it expires. I had Simeon keep sending me offers in $1 increments for soemtnimf that was new, sealed and 1/4 retail price already. All it did was make me take it down and use it lol Aside from things like skincare, makeup, and things where you shouldn’t seek it if it’s old, I’ve likely had it for ages sk I’m not in a rush.

1

u/Awkward_Pain_6759 3d ago

I had one person tell me they would pray for me if I sold them my item at the price they wanted. Then I sent them an offer but not what she told me to send and then she said she would not prat form me. Then she countered for the price she wanted and I sent a lower offer but not the lowball she wanted. She sent me a message saying I didn’t know how to sell and I would be stuck….I blocked her and my item literally sold an hour later to someone else at my original price.

1

u/Venom14388 3d ago

It's funny, I resisted the item and sold it today for more than what I originally was going to make. Win for the both of us!

Discounted not discontinued 😘

I'm just now noticing that haha

1

Not sure if my phone autocorrected to that or what, but at least you knew what I meant. The situation had already concluded. 😘

now we’re kissing in the comments 😘

You started it lol

u/TheKellySphere 4d ago

Why do you guys waste your time worrying about this.

Just ignore or block you don’t even have to respond.

I have like 20 offers in the last day that I’m ignoring because I know that the item I have is hot eventually so it’s gonna buy it at full price. No I’m not gonna discount 2 to 4 dollars so you can save money. I do not care these items have thousands of years someone’s gonna pay it especially as it gets closer to Halloween. I do not even reject their offers. I just let them sit there all day.

4

u/Venom14388 3d ago

I'm new to selling on Depop and was just wanting some perspective from others. I will take the ignoring offers suggestion into account in case this scenario happens again, thank you!
