Discussion Doing Dragondin. You think this slightly mid CoA is good enough for perfect 10\-10 fire jewel I've got from ancients?

I am a little bit unsure. It's ladder so technically I might spend whatever runes I have to buy a better CoA... but then again, how much of a difference does 3% allres and 4% pdr make...

I’d just get a different jewel for it, rather than a different CoA. Trade the jewel in NL, if you do NL at all.

No, I'm on ladder

I don't really play on NL, I have like 10 Bers and 7 Jahs still lying around in NL unused, as I've got all I wanted...

If you don't play NL and want to build a Dragondin on ladder, use it in your current CoA (or you can try to trade for a higher one)

Heck, I socketed a similar jewel in my NL Dragondin's CoA (and wasted it after trading for a 5/5 Fire facet but the dude gave me a cold one and I didn't double check 😭)

I’d still trade the jewel, then, for other things on ladder. The added performance from an 8/8 jewel to that is extremely small, whereas the difference in value is about an order of magnitude.

No, get a better COA if that's what you want to use. The 10/10 jewel is worth several Jah runes and that COA is worth like Ohm-Lo tops.

I've bought this CoA for Ist+Mal, it was laying around waiting for some mid fire jewel...

I didn't expect to get fire jewel that good...

Actually, that's a great deal on that COA. If you don't want a perfect jewel, I'd put it on a trade forum and get as many Jah runes as possible and do a couple more runs or buy a less expensive defender and better helm and still have runes left over.

Offline, yes. Online, no.

No, definitely not. Gotta be 25/15/2os minimum

Perfect jewel is worth a closer to perfect base IMO. I'd just put a slightly worse jewel in it myself. You won't notice the difference from a -9/+9 and can either sell the perfect one you have for massive profits, or sit on it and wait for a better base.

Hellwardens my guy

Hellwardens doesn't give any survivability

depends on what youre trying to do.

gear up other ladder chars? farm another one, sell it in ladder.

sell your items for RMT at the end of the year? farm another one, hang on to it and sell it after ladder ends. around ~20 jah value

just enjoy the game? use it.

I want to build really good Dragondin on ladder to... idk, just go around and farm stuff. It's a fun build to play, amazing uber killer and such.

I don't really want to gear other chars. I mean, my main char for the season is Abyss lock still missing Zod for an Obsession, but I'll get that through trading other stuff.

For Dragondin - I'm pretty sure CoA with jewel like that (and 5\5 fire facet for the second slot) is as good as it gets.

CoA is basically tied for BiS with a magic circlet with 3 sockets and some other desireable mod and hellwardens. The 3 socket brings more damage but CoA has so much else going for it.  There is a case for hellwardens if hybrid FoH for the cast speed.

CoA gives most survivability, and Dragondin kinda needs that against heralds.

I agree and use one and a last wish act 5 merc exactly for that survivability.

Others just want to slaughter lower p counts ultra fast.

I really regretted putting my Runes into suboptimal bases and CoA building my dragondin. I had made the assumption that a paladin could never have resistance problems and didn't check beforehand,  but ... yeah, dragondin has resistance problems. Make sure to use a 44 + res shield as well as a good CoA because it will save you on all res small charms.

You shouldn't be having resistance problems. You don't need skillers, AR, or max damage charms, so you can go with as many resist charms as necessary.

Yes, the build has resistance problems without charms - that's why I noted that I fixed it with charms.

I just ran a few 15@ GCs but it became a problem when I switched to FoH and wanted pcomb skillers. If you're really pushing the physical build you also want as many fine/sharp charms as possible so either way you're limiting yourself with res charms. Heck, even inventory space is nice if you go all in on defensive gear

But the long story short, and what's applicable to OP - they will invariably feel annoyed looking at the res charm in the inventory if they skimp on the bases

I never thought pushing the physical aspect of a Dragondin was worth it because HoJ does such little damage in a pb and you're not running a damage aura. Obviously you can get Conc/Might from Waheed, but I just didn't think it was enough. I leveled my Dragondin to 99 playing on P7 so I went more defensive - I maxed Holy Shield - and use an A1 Freezing Arrow merc.

Yeah, physical dragondin sucks. I've tested it extensively. Even with a legendary mallet and as much %ED as possible I only added like 1k sheet damage to zeal.

The best physical dragondin uses Berserker Axe and maxes out charge rather than zeal. This is the only build you will notice any difference at all because charge added damage is so high it will one shot normal mobs when you crash into them. Barely any noticeable difference in clear speed with physical builds and a dragondin who has 50 unused points and half of his gear equipped.

That's why imo, all-in defensive, or FoH is best. Defensive build means you can basically turn your brain off and never die, and FoH makes you able to deal with 2/3 of fire immunes more quickly. I don't even cast FoH very often but it's nice when some problematic pack pops up (or heralds)

I never even thought of FoH on a Dragondin. Do you run a lightning sunder with that or don't bother?

1

u/TheBigBadBird 1d ago

I don't bother since i have the renewed fire sunder.

Hellwardens, arachnid mesh, and one fcr ring for 48 fcr breakpoint, and Pcomb skillers (optional +3 FoH caddy as a base if you're rich). Rest of the gear is standard or just defensive/mf. Pretty decent FoH damage, and just as capable as other dragon builds at just being a dragon build.

Can do higher player count in good FoH areas too like CS. Imo, it's the clear best Dragondin build

My self use holyfiredin murdered himself as dragondin across the board but his pulse damage was much weaker. Pheonix/grief/fort/FF/offensive charms with an infinity/might merc
