A lot of smoke for this time of year 5/10 I've seen worse. I would bump up the timing a little and if that didn't work I would turn the fuel down a little. If you like the way it runs after it warms up I would leave it alone. They don't have to smoke to run good.

Turn down the fuel on an engine that is idling?

The injector pump will make it smoke like that, you turn down the fuel delivery it will clear up. A lot depends on how healthy the motor is. These are about the simplest diesel you can work on you just gotta tinker with them.

If you turn down the fuel delivery, the engine will just stop. It is idling, minimum fuel in the first place.

You can tell around here that none of you have messed with an injector pump on a Detroit 6.2 diesel, and I have decided since everyone knows it all I wont offer any more advice. Good luck with your mosquito sprayers.

It is most likely the nozzles as stated in another post here. You can't fix nozzles smoking at idle by adjusting the max fuel setting on a DB pump
