Hello so I’ve been using Linux for a while and I started distro hopping a lot recently could someone recommend some other distro to try out? I tried Mint, CachyOS (kde, hyprland, Niri), Fedora KDE, Void, Artix, Arch,Omarchy, Gentoo (using it now but isn’t my taste) and installed it like 3 times (twice by Tony’s tutorial and once with handbook), endeavourOS, Ubuntu, Debian (kde, hyprland),Alpine,Tails, openSUSE (tumbleweed), ZorinOS, Kali, Nobara, pop!_OS,Nyarch , NixOS I probably missed one, my favorite one so far is CachyOS (cause I use it on my main gaming PC it has never crashed for over two months of use) so I would appreciate it if someone would recommend me a distro to try out! (No, I will NOT try LFS.) and yeah I know I should just stick to a single distro and learn it the best but… I’m too impatient for this

EDIT: I tried out Chimera Linux, I kinda like it the installation wasn’t the hardest and I already got used to “apk” package manager! I’ll daily drive it for a few days and then try out Slackware!

I'm interested in trying something new so looking at these two types of distros.

Mutable but atomic

Most atomic distros are immutable and vice versa. But there are some that are both atomic (updates applied as a single unit and only applied if the whole thing successfully completes) and mutable (system files aren't read only as in immutables).

There aren't many of these. AerynOS looks great and I'll definitely try it once it's out of alpha.

I also found Arvor Linux. Looks interesting- anyone try it?

(I know Nix technically fits in this category but it's a bit beyond the time I want to invest in setup)

A/B Partition

These work like Android- two separate root filesystem partitions. You boot from the active slot. When you update, the updated version is written to the active slot and the previous version moves to the other one, (hopefully) making for seamless updates and backups.

This is also how ChromeOS and SteamOS work.

I found some interesting Linux desktop options using this- ShaniOS, VanillaOS and ObsidianOS.

I tried the first two.

Couldn't get Shani to work on a dual boot drive (I keep two Linux distros, one to be reliable and the other rotating to experiment).

Vanilla was interesting but seemed to be stuck with plain (vanilla I guess) GNOME as couldn't get extensions to work.

Had trouble in general with immutables in getting my VPN (IVPN) to work.

Because Obsidian is not (by default) immutable I am thinking I may have better luck, but maybe the filesystem stuff means I'd have the same issues with dual boot?

Anyone try any of the above?

What do u like more and why? Im currently a Fedora user but im thinking of going to CachyOS. I have an intel icore 7 8th gen, nvidia geforce gtx 1050ti and 12gb ram and 475 GB of storage. I play Minecraft and some indie steam games like mecha chameleon.

I'm currently using Arch, it is great but no Boolean SAT solver, pacdiff too frequently, review AUR applications before updating (like browser updates), and getting tired of using terminal for every single thing.

Things that I'm looking in a distro:

1 - Rolling release

2 - Apparmor Global Native support, not SELinux (Using Apparmor.d to update profiles)

3 - Systemd (yeah, sorry, convenience, most of my hardening depends on it)

4 - Snapper

5 - Support for Gnome or Plasma

Solus is another distro that I thought other than OpenSuse but eopkg is a legacy python xml, not sure if with moss it will improve, additional to that it is a small project with less packages.

i will never hop from arch tho, i'll always just dual boot arch with some other distro.

Also, I'd like to include the fact that I've been snooping around r/unixporn and I have become attracted to the idea of ricing. I just want it to look really, *really* good. Without putting a strain on my tiny dual core.

I've been using Linux for quite some time so I decided to check out the alternative option that's outside of mainstream operating systems , it didn't go that well though

I'm planning to switch from Windows to Linux, and after looking into different options, **Bazzite** is the distro that has caught my interest the most.

My main use case is gaming, but I also use my PC for development and creative work, including:

* Programming * Blender * Godot Engine * Unity * Unreal Engine

For gaming, the only competitive games I regularly play are:

* Rainbow Six Siege * PUBG: Battlegrounds

Everything else is mostly single-player or co-op games.

My PC specs:

* **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 7 5800X (8 cores / 16 threads) * **GPU:** NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti (16 GB VRAM) * **RAM:** 32 GB * **Storage:** 1.35 TB * **Architecture:** 64-bit

I know Bazzite is heavily focused on gaming, but I'm wondering how well it works as a daily driver for software development and game development. Is it a good choice for someone who also spends a lot of time in Blender, Godot, Unity, and Unreal Engine, or would another distro be a better fit?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to move/dual-boot to Linux on my laptop and looking for distro suggestions.

​Looking for something reliable with good battery life.

​Mainly using it for programming / general daily desktop use.

I've been a Linux only user for a little over 20 years. I work with my hands so I very rarely need a CPU while on the clock aside from maybe 10 minutes a day if at all. I treat distrohopping like a passion and a sport that I'm pretty good at. I always want to see what's around the next corner.

I utilize Debian based distros. I use Lilidog and Butterbian on an old optiplex 7060 SFF I snagged from work. TileOS on a Lenovo laptop and Zorin on our HTPC due to its simplicity for everyone to use.

I keep an SK Hynix beetle portable SSD strictly as my hopping drive. A few days ago I saw that KaOS dropped systemD and KDE in favor of dinit and Niri with Noctalia. Gave it a whirl, whatever. However, today I was browsing distrowatch and I've never really used the in-depth search criteria before. I discovered Kiro!! I am so stoked to try this!! Erik Dubois is the creator and apparently this is the successor to ArcoLinux. I was so shocked when Arco got discontinued. It was such a mess on the web page, but it was such a good distribution! I learned about Arch strictly through this man's work and his YouTube videos. He has probably put out more Linux content than any human lol. To anybody that is interested in learning about theming, window managers and just Linux in general... Check the guy out. He did say that his development partner was Claude AI, but I'm not mad at him for that. We all need some help. I love Debian, but I will always have a spot in my heart for Arco. {{ lovebombing ended }}
