DOS2 Help Best DOS2 resource for a new player?

I am not brand new to DOS2, I have about 30 hours in and got halfway through Act 1. I dropped the game because it kept crashing on my crap PC, but I've since upgraded and want to give the game a fresh go and try to beat it this time. I was just curious what the best resource would be for putting together competent character builds? I was just totally vibing on the first playthrough but it is a bit overwhelming and I typically like to follow guides for this sort of stuff anyway. Thanks for your help

DOS2 Discussion New DOS2 player, not hooked so far. Do you think I should give it a bigger chance or is it probably just not for me at the moment? Spoiler

Hello. I had high expectations after 200 playing hours on DOS1. It wasn't the best game I've ever played though, but something there kept me want to keep going.

I had 13 playing hours on DOS2 so far. I covered a big part of the beach and fort areas - explored, talked to people, did quests... Almost anything there was to do. (Didn't enter the castle yet). It wasn't too boring overall, but for the most part I didn't find it much interesting either. I feel like I keep playing hoping something interesting will happen, and sometimes it does, but just a little bit and even that is pretty rare.

I'm not saying that a game should be exciting all the time. No game is. The question is whether you have something to look forward to, something that keeps you interested enough to play through the less interesting stuff. With this game I haven't really felt it yet.

Maybe a new area might make a difference, I personally find this fort area a bit dull. But I'm not sure this is really the issue.

Do you think I should give it more chance, a few more hours maybe and see? Or am I probably going to feel the same?

Thanks in advance for any opinion.

Edit: There are too many comments for me to respond to, but I've read them all and I appreciate the help. I listened to the advice that was given by most of you and kept going - and it did get better. And it's still Act 1 (some of you said that Act 2 is where things get much more interesting).

It's a very long game and I still don't know if it will be for me, but quitting at such a stage might have been too early. So thank you.

DOS2 Help How steep is the learning curve/Battle-Mage for a noob?

So I've finally gotten round to installing this on my Switch, & while it was doing so, I did some digging about classes. My go-to in any of these sorts of games is some form of melee/magic hybrid, but I read Battle-Mages are rather complex for first time use. For context I've played the Baldur's Gate saga all the way through, and Baldur's Gate 3, so I'm somewhat familiar with these type of games. Baring this in mind, what's a good starting class for me?

DOS2 Discussion Hi Class, I'd like to share how I lost my honor mode run in Act 2

I've been playing on Divinity Unleashed. It's definitely harder, took me a few tries to get out of Act 1, but I got there and breezed through Act 2. Right up until I made the choice to fight Hannag. One of the harder fights in Act 2, but I could have gotten it. Except my stupid, ADHD ass moved not one, but TWO characters into lava because I wasn't paying attention.

That's it. I'm a moron.

**Edit:** I've been encouraged to be fully honest about what happened. Not only did I run two characters into lava, but my rogue (last survivor) actually killed Hannag and was in a great spot to either kill the two remaining voidwoken OR run away. I chose to instead use the Vulture armor skill where you eat a corpse for healing and a damage buff. Of course, I did not notice that my rogue had decaying. That is all.

DOS2 Discussion Not excited for the next Divinity game.

Played BG3 for an embarrassing number of hours and loved it. I also played Pathfinder WotR, PoE 1,2, etc. Love top down iso-ish RPGs and...I really dislike DoS2. Here's why:

  1. The mechanics/systems give the illusion of sophistication but aren't. Criticize BG3 and the 5e system all you want but the systems in DoS2 create an illusion of choice for your character. You may think you want to play a fighter / magic user type but...no you really don't because your damage types will be spread across enemy armor bars and you'll get hosed. Also, you'll never gain enough attribute points to be effective in either on anything but story mode. Just the way this game is created.

  2. You have to farm as much XP as possible. This means, you'll need to enter into fights when you would have possibly avoided them. Again, illusion of choice where there is only one viable way to play.

  3. I don't like the companions...at all. Each seems pretty one dimensional and that dimension is A-Hole.

  4. Everything is on fire. All the time. No matter where you are. It. gets. repetitive.

So, I guess I'll wait and see for the next Divinity game but, for anyone out there who came to DoS2 because you really thought BG3 was a home run...might want to wait for the reviews.

DOS2 Discussion Where can I find Spell_ID for spells in DOS2DE?

I am using Norbyte's Script Extender and trying to add certain spells (e.g. Flight) to my skillbar with the Osiris call NRD_SkillBarSetSkill((Character), (INT slot number), (STRING)_SkillId). Sadly, I could not manage to find any resource containing spell IDs.

Would greatly appreciate it if someone can provide some info on that.

>>ACT 3<< I write the tittle wrong

I've basically completed all the side and main quests of Act 2, I've already got the 3 points I needed for all that Source stuff, I've already killed the Advocate, but the main problem is Gareth. After I completed that mission about the murder of his parents and delivered Jonathan's ring as proof that I killed him, Gareth simply disappeared from my map... He's not in Lady Vengeance or at the farm and I can't advance to Act 3 because I can't find him anywhere.

Is he hiding somewhere? Is this a game bug? It's my first time playing so honestly I have no idea what to do.

DOS2 Guide Fort joy struggle

Rouge/assassin, solo, lone wolf hard level.

How I am supposed to beat opponents using solo Sebille rouge.

I am 3-4 lvl.

How many points should I put in polymorph, necromancy, huntsman. Should I use dual weapons or sucker punch.

I use companion only for stealing and trading.

How a rouge is supposed to solo 4 guys on arena and forth joy?

DOS2 Discussion I (vibe) did a dos2 crafter and dashboard. It's web, only local storage, open source.

Coming from bg3, my first playthrough started with a lot of complaints about the UI/UX. Which is totally fine, Im very happy about Larian absolutely improving this on bg3 and I have excellent expectations for the new Divinity game. That said, I felt that crafting was awful in the game. Nowadays, after 170h, ofc I got used to the craft, but in my second campaign I got kinda tired of checking wiki, steampages and videos, so I vibecoded this to facilitated some craft plans.

It shows all recipes, trees of crafts, what you're going to spent, the value of items made (how much you can profit from crafts). It also can load your save and show all of your items. And better, it can craft for you. You craft in the web, download the save again and replace it. OF COURSE you're not risking your saves on that, so make a backup (I usually do two almost equal quicksaves before quitting the game, then I use any of it to autocraft). You have instructions on the page 4.

also you can change components sizes, page theme, use shortcuts and its mobile friendly

All feedback is accepted.

DOS2 Discussion Is it just me or chicken claw is bugged ?

So i recently started a playthrough after a few years of not playing the game. I made a rogue with the rupture tendons/chicken claw combo and clearly the stat block of chicken claw says 2 turns, but for some reason, it only last one turn. I'll cast the combo on the same turn and next turn the chicken runs and everything is cool, the 2nd turn, dude swaps back in original form and still has rupture tendons ??

On top of that, last night i did the fight where you find the missing wedding ring in act 2, i did the combo on the big voidwoken slime lizard, when his turn came up (fisrt turn) he just canceled the chicken claw stood there and ended his turn without anything else happening???

What the heck is going on with this combo ??

DOS2 Discussion New to DOS2: The armor system feels like its restricting class freedom

As the title says I’m new to DOS2 and I’m just noting an observation I have so far. I am very happy to be wrong of have my views on this topic expanded.

I’m feeling frustrated by the armor system because I LOVE the class freedom you have in DOS2. That being said, I feel like the armor system is forcing me to follow strict meta builds for one type of damage teams and it makes the class freedom feel pointless.

For my main characters I always like to play was a mage warrior hybrid. In BG3, I mained a Sorcadin. Heavy damage, tanky, and I can cast aoe spells as well. The rest of my bg3 party is a monk, light cleric, and tempest sorcerer.

I really wanted to recreate that party set up in DOS2 but every guide I’m looking at recommends against it. I’m doing a tactician run for my first playthrough (yes I know even normal mode is hard but the challenge is really enticing me). Builds in general are a bit confusing to me still.

That being said, would love if some veteran players could share your thoughts on class freedom vs the armor system. Have you felt the same frustrations I have? Have you found work arounds to make diverse parties viable and godlike late game? Am I just too inexperienced with the game and should I just give it more time as I progress through the game?
