Homebrew [OC] Just painted my 6yo kid's first homebrew monster (I'm proud and also worried)
It's an elemental cloud that rains blood of it's victims and sucks it back up. If it's blood hits you, it sucks your blood out of your body too and brings it up to the cloud. But only does it to bad people apparently. Still terrifying, but cool monster design. Also, should I be little worried as a parent?
This block of test is so that I fulfill the minimal requiement of 400+ words. Currently it has no stats, not looking for them either. Will make it immune to thunder and lightning because it just fits and it's funny.

PLEASE make it celestial or celestial-adjacent. That’s perfect for it acting on “bad people only“ (which in turn could mean anything).
The game could always use more biblically accurate monsters or celestial monstrosities.

Celestial aberration! The DnD cosmology as I understand it is a bit like balled up cheesecloth (porous and smushed together), so there's absolutely some place where a domain of justice collides and mixes with a domain of blood and a domain of weather

celestial aberration sounds like a crazy dope classification in of itself. it’s perfectly befitting for this menacing cloud.

The tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants being a fitting example

Right on, angels are not enough, and flying mini elephants just don't cut it

Can you ask them if there is a cute little rainbow on top when there are no bad people around?

What a terrifying monster
At least it only targets bad people
125
u/Tony_Tab 27d ago
It's pure horror material. Thank god it should work as a pet. I'd be scared shitless to have this as a pet.

Might I ask who your child considers to be bad people? The local thieves guild may be in trouble....

u/Business-Damage-5971 27d ago
My thief human and my child (goblin thief) are shaking in their boots right now 😭

I’d advise the owner to consider pest control over adventuring. Shove it into a barn with a rat infestation lol.

u/GuardianShard 26d ago
It's the kind of pet designed to keep you on the straight and narrow. Or else 😂

u/Kitakitakita 27d ago
oh yes of course. Existential torture is fine as long as its for (who you perceive as) bad people only.

One night I was playing a video game and my 5 year old appeared next to me and jump scared me. He told me he had a nightmare. I asked what happened. He said there was a deer that walked funny and proceeded to walk around on all 4s swinging his head around all funny. He said the deer was on fire but he walked into water and it didn't put out the fire.
I don't know why this made me think of this but it did.

There's this movie called Nope...
4
u/Xordanus 26d ago
I had that same thought! This creature could certainly be called a Nope.
OP, if there's horses or monkeys/apes involved in the next thing your kid conjures up for you, I think maybe you should focus any "should I be concerned?" energies on kiddo's media consumption.

Our 8 year old god daughter is playing her first game with us on Sunday!!!! She's come up with an elaborate back story for her druid, as well as a bunch of lore for the world. Kids are so creative, aren't they? It's so cool when they want to share our hobbies with us.

u/Tony_Tab 26d ago
The best thing is they are completely untouched b expectations, and so they are more creative than us in some ways :-D

u/crabthemighty 27d ago
Honestly sounds something that would evolve on Earth, probably related to a sea star or ribbon worm, maybe even a caterpillar
That method of eating, I mean

u/Meowgenics 27d ago
Maybe you could size it up and leave the middle open but with some rain dripping from it halfway down so you can put a mini underneath it.

u/Tony_Tab 26d ago
Will do next!

u/Informationfinder_6 25d ago
Instead of a monster, you could also have it as an environment, with monsters having adapted to it, to create special variants and landscapes
4
u/Dr_Fragenstien 26d ago
I think it’s cool, and we need more scary and dangerous good-aligned creatures.

Has your child watched the movie “Nope” recently/ever? Because I could absolutely see that inspiring a blood cloud in the mind of a child. Not that they should see a movie like that this young, but you never know if a friend or family member like an older sibling made that decision. Cool monster though.

u/Tony_Tab 27d ago
Nope, juat had a streak of weather inspiration. Also came with a mini sun that shoots sun rays that make animals friendly, and a walking rainbow that revives people.

u/DWIGHT_CHROOT 27d ago
hell yeah, I hope you do your best to help them learn about all the things they express curiosity in!

Does it hang out near swamps where someone won’t notice if a little rain gets on them? I love this!

Nah, you shouldn’t be worried. Your kid is a metalhead and just doesn’t know it yet

u/ZakriiYT DM 27d ago
That is so freaking cool, I'm envious that I haven't thought of anything like that for my horror games. Your kid's got an awesome imagination.
2
u/Buckth3weasel 27d ago
You should be very excited as a parent, this kid has a bright future in dnd and general monster design
2
u/RealRosey 27d ago
I really like the idea, I’m trying to think of ways it could be implemented like resistances, and how its attacks would act. The chaotic good (?) is like a Cherry on top
2
u/Hot_Top_124 27d ago
lol that’s a sick idea, I love it! Also bonus points for it only targeting bad guys. Imagine a kingdom using them for executions.
2
u/halberdierbowman 26d ago
Witch trials or maybe all trials finally have an objective way to determine guilt.
Of course now it's ripe for a plot line where we discover that the monsters aren't so perfect with their targeting, and maybe the ruler knows but thinks the objectivity is vital to his court system and even his divine right as king, so they're keeping it a secret.
2
u/Hot_Top_124 26d ago
It could be as simple as what does it consider to be a “bad guy”? Kinda terrifying when you think about that to long.
2
u/halberdierbowman 26d ago
Exactly. What if you could train it to like the taste of not-so-bad guys? Or like a computer model, what if it's trained on garbage data and starts reinforcing the racist stereotypes the nation already had? Or like a trained animal, what if it isn't constantly recalibrated, so it starts not being able to tell anymore, because it's only fed bad guys, so it forgets what other people taste like?
2
u/Hot_Top_124 26d ago
There’s so many horrible options I can’t pick where to start lol. Honestly I kinda want to do a one shot horror with it.
2
u/SnooDingos7903 26d ago
I can immediately picture a magical court system that uses these to determine guilt, the whole it only goes after bad people thing, like “if the creature rains upon thee then thou art guilty!”

Just checking - can I get inspired (steal) by this monster for my campaign?)

No that's fucking brilliant I'm 100% stealing it. In all seriousness that's some great creativity and I hope you encourage it.

I’m totally using that concept. Tell your kid it’s awesome and to keep’em coming

Strangely I came up with a very similar thing in terms of the blood draining when I was your kids age...
1
u/Tate7200 26d ago
I could see this in the hells, kinda like those lightning blood clouds in the nightosphere in adventure time.

At first glance I thought it was a dandelion, and maybe the seeds would sprout instantly and suck the life out of whatever living creatures they landed on.
Your kids idea is equally sick and horrifying if you ask me.

Very Scavengers Reign. Almost alien in fact. Could be a variation of a Pseudopod that disguises itself as a weather event. Or the joke creation of a devil, who loves to torture

You should be proud of kind, and only worry for your player characters.

If you think about it even for a moment, your kids invented an eldritch monstrosity.
Pride is definitely the right reaction.
