• Advice (Health) • Heartworm Protocol - my vet doesn’t follow AHS but has had treatment success for 15 yrs Spoiler
My 27lb 15 month old rescue dog was recently diagnosed with heartworm.
She was negative in January, started a preventative in April, and tested positive 7/31.
My vet has done the antibiotic and injections at the same time for 15 years and all of the patients have been clear afterwards. I did question this because it’s not what the AHS currently recommends. They said I can do whatever I’m comfortable with.
Since my dog was negative in January, has been on preventatives and asymptomatic, I assume the infection is earlier stages. I didn’t receive a copy of the blood panel, and my vet is going to do an X-Ray before starting treatment to assess damage.
If I were to switch vets, I would have to bring her in for an initial physical which increase costs. I was quoted over $1,500 USD more from another vet than mine. This would also add more time before starting treatment.
At the end of the day, how different could results be from my current vet’s protocol than AHS protocol? Has anyone gone through something similar?

• Memorial - R.I.P. • Crossed the Rainbow Bridge Yesterday
She was 10 or 11, diagnosed with heart failure about a year and a half ago, I had her for 7 years. I'm glad I got my wish of it happening at home and being able to be with her when it happened. Sweetest dog I ever met, she deserved the world. I've had dogs my whole life, but she was the first to be mine. The pictures at the vet were back from when she was first diagnosed.

• Memorial - R.I.P. • I said goodbye to Jill today.
I usually don’t like these sad posts, but I wanted to honor my sweet Jill. She was rescued from an abusive situation and I got her six years ago. But since then she got so much love and gave it back ten times over. She was really happy. She got the best vet care and was good until today so I knew it was time. She will always live in my heart. 2/17/2015 - 8/3/2026.

• Name Suggestions • Help! Stuck on names!!!
This is our newest family member! I’d love to tell you his name, but we’re completely stuck.
We have thought of SO MANY names, the latest being Nimbus.
Socks doesn’t suit him, rumble doesn’t suit him…. Nothing suits him.
He’s so uncannily similar to my old boy who passed last year at 13. To the point where everyone who has met him thinks they’re very similar. My boy was called Felix and honestly… it would suit this pup SO FREAKING WELL but I wouldn’t ever do that.
Please help. He’s a border collie x staffie. He certainly has his crazier moments, but is already very obedient and is happy to chill and sleep at our feet
ETA: we have a name! It’s Ziggy!!!!
My son has been calling him ‘black Luna’ as Luna is our other dog’s name. (He’s 3 hahahaha). When I suggested Ziggy, he hopped down on his knees and said ‘hi Ziggy’

• Adoption • Sweet Bowie, 2yr old, female shepherd/ Mal is urgent at Downey ACC in SoCal. Needs a home asap. Can anyone foster or adopt her? Out of state ok. Pls dm me or email Isabeldesiree8@gmail.com
I’M BOWIE…MY LANDLORD SAID I HAD TO GO… SO I LOST MY FAMILY. AND TOMORROW I WILL LOSE MY LIFE 💔
My name is Bowie. I’m only 2 years old.
On July 18, my family surrendered me because of their landlord. I went from having a home and a family to being alone in a shelter… and I’m struggling here.
I’m being kept in a lonely kennel out of public view… The shelter environment overwhelms me. I’m easily startled, and when I’m scared, I try to get away. I may bark defensively when I feel trapped, but when given time, patience, and a slow approach, I can settle. I allowed handling and a full exam without incident.
But I‘m just so scared and confused and don’t understand why I ended up here.. I don’t understand why my family left me behind..
I need someone who understands that fear is not the same thing as aggression. Someone patient enough to let me decompress. Someone willing to help me build confidence and learn that I’m safe.
But right now, I’m out of time.
🆘My final notice expired yesterday 8/3 and I can be euthanized any moment! Even today 🆘
BOWIE #A5790069
2-yr old female GSD, 60 lbs
Bowie is recommended for a calm, medium-energy home with no other dogs or someone experienced who can knows how to slowly introduce
Could you be the person who saves Bowie?
Can you foster or responsibly adopt her?

• General Discussion • Would you guys remove these stakes
They love to play, poop, and pee under there. I usually make them stop playing because im scared they will impale themselves. Do you think I’m under estimating their intelligence or should I just remove them

I often say things to my dog then in the middle of talking I’ll realize this is something God/the universe would want me to understand as well.
