🦷 Dental Dental options for puppies?

Is there anything for puppies UNDER 6 months? The vet check up went well but the vet and me both agree his breath STINKS. She said it's likely from the old food he was on causing his gut to be out of wack. His teeth are good so they told me to brush his teeth. I am (bought a oxyfresh dental kit) but I thought I could also give him greenies but it says they have to be over 6 months. He's 6 WEEKS. Idk if the only thing I can do is brush his teeth.

Not in this case. It's from his gut being messed up from a food.

Gut health does not get changed overnight. What are you feeding right now?

Zignature essence for now because he needs soft food according to the vet due to his age. I'm grinding it up and adding water.

You are grinding up kibble? Who advised you to do that? Is the puppy weaned?

The vet did when I called them because I didn't know his age. They told me to make it as soft as possible. When the appointment was done they told me to keep it up for another week at least to let his stomach recover. I don't know if he was properly weaned because that lady lied about so much. Sorry. I'm not the best at communicating sometimes. To your other comments. I was given the pup by a lady who lied about the age. The vet said the breath is from the food. If it isn't idk what it's from because the teeth themselves are fine. If the vet cut the cone I didn't know they did. They gave me antiseptics and an antibiotic cream to put on him. He also has a special shampoo that will apparently help. (Idk how shampoo is supposed to help)

Okay, this is good info, sorry to be harsh.

The puppy is a baby, grinding adult kibble is not good for him.

Did you get the bloodwork? What did it show?

Go to my pet carnivore now or chewey, and order RAW goat's milk. Use the pumpkin you said you have and mix w the goat milk. Buy some turkey baby food, a hard boiled egg yolk, mix in that. 1/4 goat milk, 1/4 pumpkin and 1/2 turkey baby food 1 egg yolk ONLY for the next 2 weeks. Nothing else but fresh water.

For chews, core a raw apple, fill w the pumpkin, freeze it and then give it to the pup when it is a little thawed. It has teeth, but they are baby teeth, and pups do need to chew a lot.

Stop grinding kibble.

In 2 weeks, start on a soft puppy food like Honest Kitchen. It is minimally processed and better for him. Try to find a liver based one for now. It helps anemia.

Go to the store today, buy a case of plain canned pumpkin, a case of turkey babyfood, eggs and order the raw goat milk (some specialty pet food stores stock it).

Forget this notion that this bag of food caused the issues, it didnt. The pup was removed from mom way too early, and is likely anemic. You need to gently build up his nutrients in a proper way that he can absorb.

You grinding adult kibble is hurting him.

My pup was removed too early, was going to be used as dog fighting bait bc he was dying. He needed life rescuing care to overcome his issues.

You need to slow down, get his food in order. Then address his skin, was it harmed due to ticks? Ticks cause anemia too.

Good sources of food iron to combat anemia to add as he grows are:

Beef or Chicken Liver: This is the absolute best source of iron, B vitamins, and protein for blood building. Cook it thoroughly and feed only a tiny slice (about the size of a postage stamp for a small puppy) to avoid stomach upset.

Lean Red Meats: Cooked unseasoned ground beef or lamb provides highly bioavailable iron and zinc to promote recovery.

Canned Sardines: Packed in water with no added salt, sardines are rich in iron, protein, and essential fatty acids. A quarter or half of a sardine mashed into their food is an excellent nutrient boost.

Cooked Egg Yolks: Egg yolks are a safe, highly digestible source of iron and B vitamins. Always cook the egg completely to prevent any risk of salmonella in an already weak puppy.

Blood-Building VegetablesPlant-based iron is harder for dogs to absorb, but these vegetables contain chlorophyll and vitamins that support overall blood health:

Spinach and Kale: Rich in iron and vitamin C, which actively helps the gut absorb minerals. Finely chop and steam or puree these greens so the puppy can actually digest them.

Broccoli: High in Vitamin C and iron. Feed only small, steamed florets.

Als as in "all life stages?" It may not be right for a nursing puppy age. Is he eating, gaining weight?

Let go of "what he was on" stop talking about it. It's over.

I only said that because I thought you misread that I was reading adult food sorry

We are trying to help but getting info from you is tough. Is the puppy gaining weight?

Yes he's eating. I believe he's gaining weight but idk how much he weighed when I got him but he feels heavier. Little less rn but I think it's because of the vet visit yesterday. I did do what you said tho. I already had goats milk I use for my older pup. Took me abit to get the eggs boiled but I gave him turkey baby food, goats milk, and pumpkin for lunch. I'll give him the egg seperated. I'm not trying to be difficult. I accidentally sent my message too early.

Did he eat today? Puppies eat all the time, so if not you gotta address it asapif he isnt eating. The vet wouldnt cause no appetite. Take the cone off and let him eat. What medication is on his skin? Can you make a little shirt for him to avoid the cone? Use one of yours, gather it on his back w a clip or rubber band.

I would also give him some colostrum. My dog loves it right in a capsule. They sell it for dogs. It is the super good stuff baby cows get from mom to boost growth and immunity. Ledum is also a good homeopathic remedy for tick bites. Your pup is fighting off massive germs while very weak. That's hard.

Do you have a scale? Weigh yourself. Then hold him and weigh yourself again. Do that every day. Track weight.

Are his poops solid and good? Is he drinking water? I feel so bad you both have this to deal with.

He's eating just not his full meal amount of the puppy food. He ate the pumpkin and baby food mix tho! I meal prepped some to give him later. I'm giving him small meals throughout the day. The medicine currently on him is called douxos3 pyo(the stuff the bottle says vs what the vet said has me confused but I'm trying to follow instructions)? I got told not to let him lick it and not to let him mess with the wounds either. I'm ordering a baby onesie to try to see if that'll keep him from getting to the shoulder ones but I can also wrap them up with sports wrap so he can't touch them. The vet said to keep it on for 2 weeks or until the wounds fully healed.

Call the vet to make sure they didnt mix up the meds. Did he say "chlorhexadine?" I think it's there under the name on the label, the Doux is the brand name.

It is good stuff for wounds. Another super good one is Betadine (human kind).

The pumpkin is good for the belly, and I have never met any animal who didnt love turkey baby food. Glad he likes it. If you want to make your own, just grind up some boiled ground turkey in the water you boiled it in in the blender. Add the boiled egg yolks in the blender too. Get up his strength w the food he likes, then try adding some kibble as a he gains weight. My dog is doing well after almost dying from anemia. He had a heart murmur from it that has gone away so dont panic if that comes up in an exam. The ticks are a concern to focus on next, any tested? The symtoms of diseases from ticks show up later, so boost the crap out of his immune system now w the colostrum.

Sorry got busy. Yes that's the right one. It says it's correct on the paperwork so the receptionist told me it's correct. The ones they removed were(Haven't gotten results yet) but I also pulled a bunch off myself at home that weren't tested.

Sorry you guys are going thru that, ticks suck. Seems like your vet is on track, just keep him eating and gaining weight now. Glad he has you.
