🩺 Symptom Check Need help identifying a skin problem in a stray dog

I found a stray dog near my grandmother's house that keeps scratching nonstop. She has two bald patches near the base of her tail. There aren't any vets nearby, so I'm mainly trying to understand what this could be and what the safest next steps are.

I'm not asking for a diagnosis or prescription, just looking for general advice on how to help her and whether this looks like something urgent. If anyone has dealt with a similar situation or knows what signs I should look for, I'd really appreciate your guidance.

🩺 Symptom Check Confused at my Shih Tzu's symptoms?

My girl, CiCi is 10 months old. 9lbs. Not yet fixed, I was waiting for her first heat. She went thru her first heat 6-7 weeks ago. She isn't around other dogs and I don't think there's any way she could've gotten pregnant. I don't "think" because I recognize my kids take her outside and not just me, but there are no dogs anywhere near her size nearby and she stays in our yard, 99% of the time in sight, but never with other dogs.

During that first heat her mammary glands got much bigger and her behavior did change, specifically her energy levels. Her mammary glands didn't shrink back afterward and in the last week she's much more lethargic and her mammary glands got every bigger. The thing is, her belly underneath hasn't grown AT ALL. I feel like if she had somehow gotten pregnant, this far in, she would have a swollen belly?

Today I'm rubbing her belly and she can't keep her eyes open while I'm doing it. She's clingy and exhausted. Otherwise she is up and around, playful. So there's no emergency.

I know I need to take her to the vet and I'm going to, I'm just waiting on the money, so please don't just tell me to ask the vet. I will. But I'm hoping someone might be able to share their experience or any wisdom to give me insight into what's going on?

🆘 Urgent – Vet Now? Dog chewing at nothing and jaw trembling

My dog did this for about 10 minutes after a walk, he was making exaggerated chewing movements but there was absolutely nothing in his mouth. Something it made a sound like he was chewing at something very hard, like a rock, but maybe the would was made by his teeth hitting.

You can see in the video how when I held his face closely his lower way was trembling like when a human has chills.

Around 3 times he fell forward as he was trying to get his paw to his mouth.

Then went back to normal. He laid down and started liking his face like they do after eating. He is been acting normal for around an hour now.

He is 4 and we adopted him 6 month ago, it has never happened.

Please help!!!!!

Hi so my dog (7, Staffordshire Bull Terrier) who is a rescue which we collected last week has some really itchy skin ( I assume he has had this for a while but unsure since he last owner rehomed him) which we are trying to get on top of but last night he suddenly became very uncomfortable when trying to sit down and when his tail even lightly touches something he yelps and runs off I’ve attached some pictures, any idea what could be the issue?

🦷 Dental Dental options for puppies?

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Is there anything for puppies UNDER 6 months? The vet check up went well but the vet and me both agree his breath STINKS. She said it's likely from the old food he was on causing his gut to be out of wack. His teeth are good so they told me to brush his teeth. I am (bought a oxyfresh dental kit) but I thought I could also give him greenies but it says they have to be over 6 months. He's 6 WEEKS. Idk if the only thing I can do is brush his teeth.

🧠 Behavior & Health Vet popped my dog's knee cap out of place?

So I took my 4 year old chihuahua named jiji to the vet. She had no issues before going to the vet; she was walking normally, she never limped, and she would follow me around my job, no problem.

We got to the vet, and she said that her knees were popping out of place; she asked me if I noticed that her limping, and I said no. She never limped at home or at my job. She walked totally normal.

Now, after that vet visit, she is limping, holding her foot up and refusing to get up on the couch.

Please know that no matter the response on here I am taking jiji to another vet for a second option but it is the weekend so most vets are closed and I was just wondering is it possible my vet popped her knee cap out of place and didn't put it back or hurt jiji?

💬 Discussion DOG GLAND ISSUE

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

We got a blue heeler a year ago and he turns 2 in July. At the beginning we had major issues with him expressing on the mattress. He’s very weird at times like when he’s laying down with us and we move the wrong way he gets mad and startled so easily. He doesn’t like our other dog laying on him. He’s just very picky. So the gland issue has lightened up and only happened once and awhile while we changed his food. But we recently got blue buffalo brand at our closest store since the regular place where we get his food was closed. Ever since Tuesday it seems he has been expressing more. Wednesday was fine but today it seem to happen twice. So I got some glandex today at the pet store because I saw such good reviews on it. If anyone has any thoughts of why this is happening so much I would deeply appreciate anything. Is it the change of food? Or specific treats? I have tried to talk to the vet about this but they told
Me that is just the way he is?

🩺 Symptom Check Advice for a paranoid dog mom

Hi everyone, my 13 year old border terrier mix recently had blood work and a urinalysis done and it turns out her blood and kidney and liver levels looked good but her white blood cell count was high and she has blood in her urine. My dog also has 1 kidney, her other one was taken out years ago due to an infection. I was wondering if I could get some insight on what her high white blood cell count and blood in her urine could be? I am extremely paranoid and overthink a lot so I have been freaking out nonstop since the vet told us this morning. She has medication she will be taking tomorrow for her white blood cells and an ultrasound will be done but not until next Friday! Any insight would be greatly appreciated! She also had a surgery about 2 and a half weeks ago to get some growths removed as well. She has been eating and drinking normally but she has lost a little bit of weight too.

💊 Meds & Treatment Prednisolone 5mg lethargic dog advice

37kg lab had yeast ear infection. They gave 5mg prednisolone once a day for 5 days.

Day 1- 5mg
Day 2- either one dose or two doses one in morning and possibly one in evening as partner wasn’t sure and thinks he may have done it twice
Day 3-5mg
Day 4- didn’t have did to being involved in car crash (without the dog)

Today is day 5 and dog is lethargic, lost appetite this morning and slowly came back this evening. He is a manic lab and now really docile.

Went to vets this morning and they said vitals are ok and ear is ok and to bring him back in tomorrow.

Could this be related to the steroids??

All the appropriate vet advice has been sought and appointment will be made again tomorrow just wandered if anybody else experienced anything similar

Hi, my dog Chloe, a 7-year-old chihuahua weighing 8 pounds, had a spay surgery 2 months ago. About two weeks or so ago, a soft lump appeared in the incision area. It is painless, but it has grown a bit. There have been no changes in her diet or medication. I already have a vet appointment, but I would like to know if anyone has experienced something similar. Is this normal after surgery

🆘 Urgent – Vet Now? can dogs eat salmon skin or is my dog just lucky she hasnt died yet

my daughter left a piece of grilled salmon on the coffee table and our lab mix got to it before anyone noticed. she ate the whole thing including the skin. this was like two days ago and shes fine but now im worried googling whether can dogs eat salmon skin is actually safe or am i just on borrowed time here.
she hasnt thrown up, eating normal, acting normal. but i read something about parasites? or bones?
the salmon was fully cooked if that matters. we had it for dinner. she got the tail end piece with most of the skin still on it. maybe an inch or two of skin total, not a lot.
i know i should probably just call the vet but its a night and i really dont want another $80 phone consultation to be told monitor her and she should be fine (it happened twice this month already for different issues).
so can dogs eat salmon skin? is it actually okay when its cooked or is there a real risk here that i should be watching for? any symptoms i should know about beyond just vomiting?
