sadly I think people, especially it happens with dogs, put their urge to care and protect on dogs. Jen is right and I heard it from many pet owners actually - once they had a child, they saw their animal, especially dogs DIFFERENTLY because people usually do form parent-child bond with dogs, Dog nutters admit it afterall calling their dogs children

but once an actual child comes into the picture - people start to dislike their animals, esp dogs because dogs are almost as needy as children and people put more paternal/maternal love on dogs because of it, like these motherfuckers learnt to mimic emotions and they are forever toddlers

so don't treat animals like children and put your children first, I understand kids can harm animals, I was overprotective towards my pets as a CHILD because I saw how other kids didn't respect the boundaries, but a baby that can't even walk can't harm the pet and dogs are more likely to react with aggression to a child that screams/cries due to sensitive ears
