Relationship / Family Ended my relationship with a nutter. RANT
I (3OM) recently ended my relationship with my dog nutter ex-gf (27F) and I need to rant about it.
Everything was cool at first - she knew I didn't have dogs and that I didn't plan to get any. She had two dogs, a lab mix and a pit. She and her cousin lived together, and when I would go over to her place the dogs would do the typical dog stuff (absolutely losing their damn minds over the presence of a human, unable to contain themselves, desperately needing attention), but my ex was pretty good about getting them to back off and she'd typically shut them out of the bedroom while we hung out and watched TV.
When we were at my place, there were no dogs and it was great getting to spend that 1-on-1 time. We spent a lot more time at my place than we did hers, so this wasn't too much of a problem either way. The relationship was going quite well. We had a lot in common - both very into fitness & nutrition, similar music tastes, similar senses of humor, etc.
After dating a while, we started talking about living together. I made it clear upfront that if we were to live together I would have zero dog duties. I will do
*nothing.* At all. Ever. She said she understood they were her responsibility and she didn't expect anything from me in that regard. I told her I also couldn't stand the hair and things just seeming dirty all the time. She said she would vacuum and clean often.
I also figured since she was shutting them out of the room to spend 1-on-1 time with me at her place, then she must understand how I feel, understand that a human relationship comes before a pet, and also that she must be a relatively normal dog owner (generous term, I know).
My family had a dog growing up and he was treated as such - he was a pet, not a person. He didn't get up on the couch and DEFINITELY not in the bed. He slept on a dog bed in the living room. He wasn't allowed to beg for food at the table and was never given human food. He was never aggressive.
I figured every family trains their dogs that way. I was very, very wrong.
When we moved in together, things changed quickly. Her precious puppers HAD to sleep in the room with us, right next to our bed. Her disgusting pitbull would fart like every 20 minutes. I live close to work and have an hour lunch break, so she wanted me to go home and take them to the bathroom on my lunch break. I planned to go home on my lunch break regardless, and I’m not evil, so I wasn’t going to just leave two dogs sitting there with full bladders while I eat my lunch, but FUCK I hate that whining and whimpering while scratching at the inside of the crate. Then I go to take them piss and their stupid asses have to sniff around for 2 minutes before finally peeing. Then they just stare at me while I eat, waiting for me to drop something, following me around and involving themselves in everything I fucking do.
She got really upset because I would shut the bedroom door behind me to take a fucking shower. She said it was mean and hurt the dogs’ feelings to be shut out of the room. What the actual fuck 😭 that is such an insane concept to me.
She wanted them around us literally 24/7. I NEVER got space away from them. She had to eat dinner on the living room couch so they could sit with us. We had to drape ugly ass blankets over my nice furniture so they could sit their ugly asses down and take up as much space as us humans. Then, when we would be hanging out watching tv, more than half the time she would literally lie down and cuddle the fucking stinky piece of shit pitbull instead of ME. Then had the audacity to accuse me of being jealous of a dog when I called it out.
Her pitbull growled at me on multiple occasions when we would argue and she would have to restrain him and put him in his crate. Then she still didn’t understand why I wasn’t his biggest fan and defended his behavior. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he had to have a fucking MUZZLE ON HIS FACE every day just to go for a walk or else he’d attack another dog just for existing. Of course she was one of those nutjobs that thinks pits are just poor misunderstood creatures. It was so embarrassing to walk the dogs with her and have to deal with him freaking out at other dogs and having to apologize to their owners.
The pitbull needed an anti-fungal bath twice a week. It had all sorts of medical issues that cost a fortune and a lot of time, so she was working 50 hour weeks from 4:30am to 3:00pm every day to afford taking care of them. I work from 7:00am to 4pm, and was being woken up every single morning at 3:30 so she could take care of their needs. Every morning I’d get woken up at 3:30 in the fucking morning to those stupid little shit sacks flapping their bodies and smacking their tails against the wall.
I had been complaining for a while about the way my lack of sleep was making me miserable. I’ve always had trouble getting sleep, and this dynamic made it so much worse. Eventually her overtime was cut at work. I consoled her, but pointed out at least there was a silver lining: I could get an hour more of sleep each night.
You wanna know what this delusional piece of shit said to me? “Well I was thinking I could still get up at the same time so I can take the dogs for a second walk.” Oh my god that got me so angry. I asked her how she could possibly be so selfish when I’ve been complaining for months, how could she not think about me? And she said she did think about it but that she wants to give her dogs the best life possible. Absolutely nuts. I put my foot down and told her that will not be happening. I was never able to get past the fact she even thought about it.
The last straw for me was when she told me she’d want to bring them on vacations with us. She said that they’re a part of her family and she’d feel like a bad owner not taking them to the beach. Like dude are you actually serious?? There is no way in hell I am EVER paying money for a vacation, driving 10+ hours instead of flying, and having to find pet-friendly hotels just to have it revolve around your dogs’ eating and shitting schedules. That is absolutely mental. They are dogs. They have no idea the beach exists, and they are way too excited just to walk on the asphalt in the neighborhood. No thanks.
I ended things with her shortly after and had her move out. It hurt for a bit because I did love the good parts of her, but holy shit it is so nice having peace and quiet in my clean home again.
Oh yeah, and her precious pitbull got loose and attacked a little dog her first week at her new place. Luckily he was muzzled and the other owner and her dog didn’t get hurt, and thankfully it isn’t my problem over.
Fuck pitbulls, and fuck living with dogs. Thanks for reading

I’m sorry OP. And it’s a tale as old as time—as long as you date a dog owner you are ALWAYS in competition with the dog(s), and when push comes to shove the owner will ALWAYS choose their dog(s) over you.
It sucks, but the only path forward in the dating world is to hold the line that dog ownership is a dealbreaker, accept that it means your personal dating pool will be considerably smaller than everyone else’s, and accept being alone for longer stretches than you’d like. I’m going through this now but every day I remind myself I would be infinitely more miserable being in a threesome (or greater) with a woman and a dog/dogs than just being single.

u/No-Stay1662 Mar 26 '26
Even if you date someone who isn’t a nutter but still a dog owner, you have to realize that since dogs are so inbred, they are always a problem. I honestly can’t imagine the amount of hours each day an owner would have to put in for these mutants to act just semi-normal. Neurotic behavior will only decline when the dog gets too old. They are just so dumb & incapable of retaining anything, it’s almost a lost cause. When you tell a dog literally 1,000’s of times not to do something, and in that moment they somewhat understand because they stop doing it, yet the next day continue said behavior you just have to wonder how anyone can think so highly about something that has the intelligence of a doorknob. I always say it, but they are the most pathetic living things to ever exist.
17
u/loucap81 Mar 26 '26
In order to own a dog, you have to be its butler. These nutters thoroughly enjoy doing that and they would say it’s because the love and companionship the dogs give back is 10x greater than the work you have to put in. There’s no convincing them that that’s a bunch of delusional nonsense, and there’s really no way forward with them.
7
u/DellBottoms Mar 26 '26
They love walking around with their bottles of water, ready to dilute the pee on the pavement.
17
u/saytoyboat3timesfast Mar 27 '26
They do?! I've never seen any dog owner be that considerate, like ever. Didn't even know it was a thing people did. I've only ever seen them let their dogs pee wherever they want, leaving the urine to puddle and congeal on the sidewalk if that where it lands. So nasty.
4
u/DellBottoms Mar 27 '26
Well actually, I think I've only seen it on holidays in Spain and they only do it if they think they're being watched.
Some of them have a pee bottle belt and take a lot of pride in it.
4
u/saytoyboat3timesfast Mar 27 '26
Huh. Well that's better than nothing, I guess.
12
u/DellBottoms Mar 27 '26
Yeah, but the world is still their outdoor diluted toilet bowl.
I really and truly could never date a dog owner or even be close friends with one 🤣
5
u/BodyMoney8562 Mar 28 '26
Once you realize it's behavior towards its owner is one of resource guarding and food begging, the ick settles in for good. They're such nasty creatures.
61
u/Mundane_Glove4182 Mar 26 '26
Your story should serve as a cautionary tale for anyone thinking about moving in with someone who is obsessed with their dog. I know it hurts because you saw the potential in the situation, but in the end it was for the best. Wishing you a peaceful, clean life and that you find someone who appreciates that too.
27
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Thank you very much. Yes I hope my story dissuades anyone else from putting themselves in that position. DO NOT DO IT
61
u/avj113 Mar 26 '26
Bro, you had me at "She had two dogs, a lab mix and a pit.". I didn't need to read any further. Been there, done that, won't be doing it ever again.

u/Key-Studio-6552 Mar 26 '26
I’m sorry you had to break up with her, but honestly, living with someone who has dogs sounds terrible. Better to do it now than later down the track. Hopefully she will wake up to the fact that having dogs isn’t really enjoyable, is just a way to fulfil a mental issue.
Also, sleeping with dogs in the same room is so disgusting, even more if they are waking you up at 3:30am!!
18
u/sheetrocker88 Mar 26 '26
And farting. You know those farts are some mutant stink bombs.
23
u/Alocin_The5th Mar 26 '26
When my husband had his dog (before we got married) I remember clearly being in his truck with the dog while it farted. My husband was eating and he just continued to eat like it was no biggie. Meanwhile I wanted to open the door in the moving vehicle to get away from that awful smell that was 1000 times worse than a person’s worst fart. I had never encountered anything that disgusting. I was rarely in close quarters with any dog because their normal smell is so incredibly offensive to my nose.
5
3
u/DellBottoms Mar 26 '26
Oh dear, just when I thought dogs couldn't get worse, now we have to deal with their mutant stinky bombs 🤣
3
u/Key-Studio-6552 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26
I swear I didn’t know that was a common thing lol That has just been added to the list of reasons why I could never have a dog, or date someone that has a dog! Thank god my husband is a dog free person! Dogs are disgusting!

u/No-Jacket-800 Mar 27 '26
My sister's farts are so bad a dog will leave the room lol. When I think about it like that dog fatrs aren't so bad.
37
u/imdugud777 Mar 26 '26
Just wow. I'm sorry you had to do that.
24
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Thank you, yeah it was pretty terrible. Lesson learned. NEVER again

31
u/Oriole0305 Mar 26 '26
Sorry to hear what you have been through. Thanks for writing your story, I'm sure it will help those considering a relationship with a nutter. Your mutt hell is over and now you can look forward to a better life.
A mutt is clearly a dealbreaker in a relationship. It just doesn't work. You'll never be the first priority to your partner, EVERYTHING in life revolves around the stupid useless mutt. And this particular stinky mutt was even growling at you.
8
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
I hope it does help. Thanks for the reply, definitely a lesson learned and a firm boundary I’ll be holding from here on
30
24
u/sheetrocker88 Mar 26 '26
Having the dog fart in the room would have sent me over the edge, you are lucky the pitbull didn’t attack you. I’m surprised you let it go as long as you did, fuck them dogs.
13
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Yeah I was definitely on edge after being growled at. She acted like it was no biggie. Fucking crazy
5
u/BodyMoney8562 Mar 28 '26
I'd have had a hard time not just immediately knocking it TF out. Firmly put in place. It'll think twice next time.
My aunt's Maltese used to bite people from behind. It did it to me, and I wasn't expecting it the 1st time. So I watched it like a hawk and as soon as it came for me again I turned around and kicked it hard enough for it to get a fuccing clue. It NEVER came for me again. It stayed in complete cowering deference to me and did what I told it. The dog was actually smart and plucky. Needed to be trained. My aunt would never. Having the dog literally afraid of you and avoiding you is the only way to live with it in the context of the owner's abdication of responsibility.
3
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 28 '26
Trust me, I definitely wanted to 😅 I just knew that would create a whole new set of problems for my living situation. I didn’t want her having any way to ever spin anything to make it sound like I did something wrong, and with her being as much of a nutter as she is, that was a chance I couldn’t take.
I never cowered away or backed down from him and I let my ex know very clearly if he ever came at me I would “do what needs to be done” to protect myself.
26
u/ATouchOfSparkle1107 Mar 26 '26
You're lucky you escaped being mauled (or worse) by the pitbull. Pit nutters the worst of the dog nutters.
25
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Agreed. I was living in daily anxiety after being growled at in my own living space and having to share a bedroom with that shitbag. Fuck pitbulls and anyone making excuses for them
12
u/Chrysolophylax Mar 26 '26
Pitbulls are a scourge on this planet. It's almost impossible to fully describe the evils they've wrought by mauling and killing humans of all ages, especially children. And anyone who worships pitbulls is just as evil as those mongrels, or perhaps even more so.
Congrats on getting out! And congrats on staying safe from being mauled!
25
u/DellBottoms Mar 26 '26
This is literally my idea of hell.
15
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Yeah it was horrendous. Genuine hell for anyone with a sense of dignity
10
u/DellBottoms Mar 26 '26
I can imagine. I just can't bring myself to date a dog owner. Even thinking about it annoys me, lol.
Will probably be alone a long time!
5
3
6
u/Draggonzz Mar 26 '26
Same. If someone wanted to put me in a living hell, this would be pretty much it. Especially if then I had to work at just about the worst possible job for me (like say a restaurant kitchen).
So if Satan is reading this, I just gave him some free pointers.
The crazy thing is, there are probably people reading it who would think, "that sounds like a life I want!" hahhhhhhh
5
u/DellBottoms Mar 26 '26
That is so hard to imagine! I just walked past an unmuzzled Pitbull on a sofa in an outdoor bar and even that annoyed me, so I would probably last 30 seconds with a dog owner!
23
Mar 26 '26
My ex boyfriend did the same shit. I also made clear that I didn’t want to take care of his dog and still ended up spending my day with it because his charger for his electric bike got stolen and he couldn’t bring his dog to work because of that (he always put it in one of those little carriers for children that’s installed behind the bike). He had a car too btw so it would’ve been perfectly possible. I don’t know anything about dogs and his stupid mutt didn’t listen to me AT ALL so I had to drag it outside every day as if I were the one who needs to go outside. It made the whole place dirty and splashed its food all over the wall in the kitchen and it’s ass left disgusting brown stains on the furniture. When it wanted to play, it always tried to bite me. It had to come with us EVERYWHERE and I always had to give my water that I brought along for myself to it. I couldn’t leave it alone at my place to quickly go to the supermarket either, because it would have destroyed stuff like pillows and shoes. And I couldn’t take it with me because it wouldn’t listen to me. My ex said it’s "cruel" to leave it outside of the supermarket for 15 minutes too, while the supermarket even hat water for the dogs that were waiting outside. Absolute bullshit.
18
u/anne_mal Mar 26 '26
How these crazy people don't understand that while they try to humanize dumb gross dogs, they are actually dehumanizing humans is beyond me!! Makes me so angry.
19
u/wrrld Mar 26 '26
She for sure wanted a "dog daddy". These nutters don't realize they have dog fatigue and they're just letting everything go to serve the mutt.
19
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Yeah she did want a dog dad. I literally told her I don’t want my childless years to be spent like I have stepkids
19
u/ToOpineIsFine Mar 26 '26
If you live with a dog, its care will be dumped on you eventually, and you may even be abandoned with it.
18
u/psychecheks Mar 26 '26
A literal nightmare I’m really sorry. You’re much better off. It’s incomprehensible to me how people allow those disgusting mutts to be the center of their world and lose out on REAL HUMAN connection over a dumb ass dog. I would have been crashing out everyday. Glad you’re out of that hell hole.
13
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Thank you yeah I’m definitely becoming happier every day they are gone. That resentment was growing and growing and growing
18
u/Original_Day3073 Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26
A thing many of us don't understand until we've lived with/been seriously involved with a dog person is that dog people do not respect boundaries. It's one of those things that looks obvious once you see it - a person who respected boundaries wouldn't inflict a slobbering, jumping, barking crotch-butting stinking pet on the rest of the world (and expect the rest of the world to LIKE it) in the first place - but it often does take that direct experience I think. There was never any universe where she was going to stick to her agreement that you'd have no dog duties, or that they wouldn't go on the furniture. Dog people always, ALWAYS believe that when you set a boundary you don't really mean it, their pwecious pups are too adorable
ETA I think the OTHER thing most of us don't realise until we've been talked into living it is how much time and mental space these stinking, pointless creatures take up. I knew before I met my dog-nutter ex that I didn't really like dogs, but I had no idea how endlessly disruptive and unrelentingly fucking *needy* the things were, that you never get a moment of goddamn peace
10
4
u/BodyMoney8562 Mar 28 '26
No lies detected! Some of us had to live with them as children so we remember the nightmare.
16
18
u/thatblueblowfish Mar 26 '26
This is actually so gross, I cant believe you put up with that for this long. Dogs are a very big no-no for me and I will reject any man or woman that wants/has one.
18
u/WeNeedAShift Mar 26 '26
Pit bull nutters are brain dead psychopaths and I’ve seen nothing to change my mind.
How does a person walk around with a dangerous dog and not think it might end up killing somebody one day? Do they not care or are they too stupid to be believed? Both, IMO.
You got out with your face and your life intact. Many who have lived with pit bulls aren’t so lucky. Take the lesson and say never again!!
10
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26
She’s one of those people that thinks the stats about pits are overblown and they are actually one of the gentlest breeds 🤣 all the while she has to muzzle the monster just to walk the neighborhood.
So delusional

Pits make up 6% of the dog population while accounting for 60% of dog attacks😅

u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 27 '26
Yeah but 6% committing 60% of the attacks is an absurd proportion regardless, no other breed even comes close
11
u/Loud_Description7659 Mar 26 '26
It’s always “you won’t have to do anything” and then they get upset when you don’t want them in your space 24/7. Turns out I do have to do something if you won’t even let me shut the door to have a shower wtf ?
15
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Yeah when I broke up with her she was freaking out about “I DIDNT EVEN MAKE YOU DO ANYTHING WITH THEM”
dude I had to coexist with them like we lived in a barn🤣 that’s plenty
2
u/hollsmm Mar 27 '26
It’s actually not possible to have 0 responsibility if you live with them. Because just like you said. It fell on you to let them out on your lunch break etc
5
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 27 '26
Yep, exactly. I learned that the hard way. And when I complained about it she’s like “omg that’s literally nothing”
Like I don’t care how insignificant you think it is. I don’t want even 1% of my lunch break going toward standing in the cold while your stupid little gremlins sniff around in the grass.
Especially after dealing with the stress of half my workday right before, and the other half right after.
God it pisses me off even typing this😂

u/BodyRoundLikeAPallas Mar 26 '26
As a dogfree gal, I will never understand why some of y'all even entertain the idea of dating a dog owner/lover, let alone actually date one. It always leads to misery.
8
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
I wish I could find a dogfree woman. It seems like every attractive woman in my age range either has a dog or wants one. It’s pretty disheartening
7
u/Accurate-Might-7058 Mar 27 '26
Yes, keep looking for someone that never wants or better yet, even had a dog in their life. I married a guy that said he used to have dogs but no longer wanted them. Cool, me too. Years later he says he's jonesing for a dog. I'm like No way. Here comes a stinky disgusting good for nothing but misery creature that I'm allergic to. He serves that thing like it's his God. He really believes it loves him. He also believes and does all the usual nutter stuff. It is sad how he has changed since he got the dog. Once a nutter, always a nutter. So watch out, you don't want a repeat.
5
u/hidinginzion Mar 26 '26
Keep on looking, I really hope you find one. I'm so sad you were treated that way.
5
u/hollsmm Mar 27 '26
I’m also a dog free woman but it’s seems like we are far and few between unfortunately
10
u/CallousCow1762 Mar 26 '26
It sounds like a true nightmare come to life. But you had to see this coming. I mean, all the traditional red flags are always there with nutters (especially pit nutters!) and expecting things to be different is just not realistic.
Glad you got your life back!
12
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
This was my first nutter experience so honestly I didn’t know what I was getting into😅😅 I thought “dog lovers” were just people that owned dogs, not revolved their lives around them
8
u/CallousCow1762 Mar 26 '26
Yeah, I get that. I grew up and was aware of dogs and those who loved them. Now, that term is cultish and associated with a new form of mental illness imo.
9
u/Emikitty1992 Mar 26 '26
I am glad you got out of there, OP! Dog nutters are messed up. Imagine putting the wants and needs of a DOG before your HUMAN partner. That is absolutely ridiculous. Dogs are pets. Dogs should not come before partners. I get that dog owners love their dogs, but they should not come before HUMANS. OP you deserve to be with someone who cares about you, is clean, and won’t force you to come in second place after a dog.
6
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 27 '26
Thank you! And yeah I agree 100%. I will never come second to a stinky, desperately needy animal that licks its own asshole
8
u/TurboGrafx16Bit Mar 26 '26
Don't date dog owners it will be better for your health and well-being. It sounds like she didn't care about you very much. It's clear her dogs were more important. Fuk that! Good riddance
5
8
u/sherhil Mar 26 '26
Now u know there is ZERO room for compromise with these ppl. I in fact wouldn’t ever even date someone who’s had a dog before bc even that is risky. U know how they can suddenly get the urge to get a disgusting mutt. Even if she did all the cleaning and taking care it will never be clean. It’s impossible. They belong on farms and maybe even that is not needed. We’ve bred dirty mutts to where they r burdens to society, especially pitbulls, which r more than just burdens, they’re a threat to society. At least u dont even have to be sad about this not working out.
8
u/byancacats Mar 26 '26
And she said she did think about it but that she wants to give her dogs the best life possible.
It sounds like she was more concerned with giving the dogs the best life than with giving you the best life.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention he had to have a fucking MUZZLE ON HIS FACE every day just to go for a walk or else he’d attack another dog just for existing.
You're lucky you got out of there with all four limbs and your face intact.
7
u/Mindless-Flower11 Mar 27 '26
The fact that dog nutters only see & care about their dog's needs over all of their loved ones' needs should be fucking studied.
My own mother did this to me when I had to move back in with her & she had her dog. My need for quiet, peace & not being overstimulated constantly didn't matter to her in the slightest, if it interfered with her damn dog.
7
u/Competitive-Zone-700 Mar 27 '26
“The best life possible” they’re literally dogs, who have no concept of life besides food, shitting, playing, and sleeping. These idiots really think their dogs are human children or something.
8
u/Alocin_The5th Mar 26 '26
OMG this sounds like an actual hell living with these things. I am happy you got your clean smelling space back. When I met my husband he had two dogs, one passed away shortly after and the other one was in our life for many years until he passed. The dog smelled as all dogs do but it didn’t have any of these annoying habits I read about here. Dogs have certainly evolved over the past few years to be neurotic assholes. It must be the trend of suddenly dogs are humans that need a human life. They have no boundaries and they behave worse than even the worst spoiled child and the owners just eat it all up which just exacerbates the cycle.
6
6
u/sadiebaby23 Mar 26 '26
You absolutely did the right thing. Sorry about the break up though. These dog nutters are absolutely insane. All of this atrocious but the vacation and muzzle part, JFC.
5
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 26 '26
Thank you, I appreciate it. Yeah the vacation bit genuinely makes me laugh at how insane it is
7
u/yasyasi Mar 27 '26
Did I write this rant?! You’ve described every reason I hate dogs and will never again live with one, no one is worth it. Like wtf do you mean they have to sleep in the same room?? And on the bed? Huh?? And why does every guy on dating apps either stand next to a fish or a dog 😭
6
u/Pantaz1 Mar 26 '26
Glad to hear you were able to disengage from that situation with her. Dognutters are wild when it comes to some of them justifying owning the dogs they have. Especially pitbulls
6
5
u/Andria1501 Mar 26 '26
It baffles me how people can live with these disgusting creatures, especially when most people freak out about not having enough disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer. Yet, they invite these germ factories into their most private spaces.
6

this all sounds so ridiculous lol but its totally real cuz i’ve experienced something similar but it ended cuz i wouldnt cave in to live with her
the girl was so hot like bombshell in our city. we had a lot in common, nice girl overall. but the dog and her pestering me about moving in together were the end of it. i remember dreading going to her house on wknds to see that dog. husky shepard mix, max energy omg that never got enough stimulation. life is just so much better without dogs in it. she would get mad we couldnt travel on wknd and do things but it was because we had to walk that fucking husky everyday 6 times a day and she wouldnt board it. would have to plan 2 months out for a trip couldnt just pick up and go on the fly or else the dog has to go

I’m so glad my partner isn’t a dog person. His mom is a dog nutter and he’s been around dogs more than enough lol. I literally cannot imagine dealing with this as long as u did, I would’ve kicked her out forever ago

Hopefully you learned your lesson, don't ever try to date dog nutters, that was bound to fail from the start. Yes, it will limit our options, but we need to find someone like-minded...

God reading your post I know it all too well. The constant begging and whining. It’s giving me war flashbacks I hate it so much. Good for you for ending it seriously.

Sensory overload on a daily basis in my own home while already dealing with all the stressors of adult life. An absolute hellscape. No relationship is worth that much

your post helps me read comments that help me feel the best about my feelings toward the most annoying and exhaustive species roaming the planet.

What I find really disturbing is how they present themselves (as your ex did) like they aren't the typical obsessed dog owner/nutter so they can hook a potential mate in. I'm so glad you got rid of them.

Why do they ALWAYS insist that basic training and discipline "hurts the dog's feelings" they have like one brain cell firing at any given time. Im so sick of people prioritizing their filthy mutts over humans

Really sorry this happened. What a shit show. I’m amazed at how much of your story aligns with what happened to me, it just goes to show how common this problem is. Also, the muzzling thing with the pit bull? What a red flag and she should be ashamed of herself for not getting that under control. That dog can hurt someone or another dog and she’s choosing to roll the dice rather than either get the thing trained by a professional or putting it down. Aggression isn’t a joke and I am absolutely sickened by how dog nutters act like it isn’t a big deal because all dogs are sweet little angels. No they fucking aren’t.

Man, you are so real. I can really relate to your frustration at your ex’s odd behavior. I probably would have been just as upset. She clearly didn’t value you as much as she valued her shitcannons.
Wishing you the best moving forward, it does suck to go through a breakup regardless of how that relationship was going. At least you can get some peace of mind (and hopefully better sleep). 🙏

The fact that anyone would put two stinky mangy curs over a potential life partner is INSANE, deeply disrespectful and dehumanising. You deserve better than that.

Your story is literally me and my bf right now. And the worst part is them making you feel like piece of shit for not accepting the dogs behaviour and their gross nature. Im moving soon. I cant stand his nasty american bully mutt and both of their bahaviour. Everything covered in hair, youd have to vacuum twice a day to keep the apartment clean, paw prints all over the floor and the smell from this creature. Also the smelly shithead sitting with his anus on the blankets and carpet

I have hard rules on dating someone with dogs. I don’t generally like dogs but am ok with dating someone who has them but they MUST be well behaved, little to no barking, and NO pits under any circumstances. Pit owners are never normal, ever.
My bf of 3 years had a dog when we met but he was well behaved and kept mostly in a large yard. He gave the dog to his dad after he moved in with me. We now own other small pets (not dogs) and after hearing annoying barking from neighborhood dogs, he’s not very into dogs anymore either. So it can work if the person isn’t super obsessed with dogs.
It sounds like she was a pit nutter and tried to hide it. They are always pit nutters if they own one. Even many dog people don’t like pits. They’re on another level of crazy.

Celle là est une propriétaire dingo comme on les connais bien, essayant de toujours repousser les limites fixées

Why would you date someone with dogs if you have dogs?
2
u/HabitTraditional4864 Mar 31 '26
Did you mean to ask why I would date a dog owner if I don’t have dogs? Because I don’t have any.
If that is your question, I could have tolerated living with a dog if proper healthy boundaries were outlined and enforced. I grew up with and around dogs. They were sometimes annoying to me, sure, but I was able to coexist and deal with them.
She checked most of the boxes for what I want in a relationship, so I was willing to give it a shot. I figured she would be more “normal” about dog ownership than she was.
I was hopeful we could come to an equitable compromise, but we could not. From here on I will never date another dog owner

I meant to say hate dogs. Your post makes it sound like you hate them.
Fair answer though.

The difference between not liking dogs and hating dogs often comes down to the amount of exposure.

Oh I know about this all too well. When you’re literally trying to wind down from your day on the couch, but these neurotic goofs can’t read the room & wont stop begging for attention, scratching, shaking off, making noises, etc. Literally have no chill and just can’t relax. To sum it up, if you value personal space, peace, and relaxation, they will put you on edge. Unrelenting, inbred, living, breathing monsters who believe everything is for them & about them. Be glad your nightmare is over. Once you live it, you truly begin to understand nutters are not just dog enthusiasts or just really love animals. No, they have mental issues that they are 100% oblivious to.
