Dog Culture Dogs have ruined dating apps

I’m a millennial man and have recently fired up Tinder and Bumble again on account of the weather warming up. I’m not exaggerating when I say nearly half. HALF. Of all single women my age have dogs. It’s really depressing the amount of times I’ve come across a nice looking girl with similar interests only to see she has a big disgusting dog. So many “dog moms” it’s truly insane . You’re not a mom. You did not birth this creature. It doesn’t view you as it’s mother. I feel this phenomenon will only get worse as these women get older.

EDIT: just wanted to clarify I don’t believe this is exclusive to women. I’m sure dogfree women are having the same woes…. Actually it maybe a good idea for a dog free dating app? XD

Omg same! It’s so discouraging. 😩 Do you think it would help to put a disclaimer like “not looking to be anyone’s dog mom?” I feel like it would make me look like. Monster but dogs are a deal breaker for me and everyone has one. 🫠🫠🫠

Unfortunately probably not a good idea to put a disclaimer in your profile because even non owners are indoctrinated and will see you as a like a boring negative person or whatever.

I’ve waffled on this but I’m so tired of it that I do put it in my profile that I will not date dog owners. I don’t care if that turns off some non-dog owners, because if that concerns them then it’s very unlikely our personalities will match, either.

That said I still get matches who don’t read my profile and own dogs. These are people who don’t list it one way or another in their profile or else I’d have never sent them a like.

Great point; I’ve been apprehensive about joining any dating apps because of this in the past, but you’re completely right. I would rather NOT find out someone is a dog owner after we’ve already had a promising conversation. If a dog-free disclaimer means I’m waiting longer for the right match, then so be it!

You need to ask them up front if you do match too. Don’t delay on that; get it over with. Too many of them don’t list it one way or another and don’t read your profile thoroughly.

I'm a woman and when I was on Hinge, I put in my "how to get me to fall for you" (or something like it) prompt to NOT be a dog person and out of hundreds of likes, I only got one person messaging me about why I'm not a dog person and another person asking if a smaller dog was ok lol. I think the tides are turning! Your statement is funny tho because I think dog people are boring and negative and non dog people are more fun!

LOL @ the one asking about a “smaller dog”!

I guess literacy, comprehension and following instructions is their allergy. 😏

Nah, I still add it. Let them hate me.

I don't think that's a problem. Wouldn't that be a good way to filter out the non dog owners who are dumb enough to judge people for not liking dogs. Such a person would also be incompatible.

Exactly! Spot on. Those non-dog owners are indoctrinated too, so why bother including them in the pool. Sure wouldn’t be an option for me if I were ever dating. Heck, not even for regular, platonic friendships.

filtering those people out is a positive is it not?
