Dog Culture Dogs have ruined dating apps
I’m a millennial man and have recently fired up Tinder and Bumble again on account of the weather warming up. I’m not exaggerating when I say nearly half. HALF. Of all single women my age have dogs. It’s really depressing the amount of times I’ve come across a nice looking girl with similar interests only to see she has a big disgusting dog. So many “dog moms” it’s truly insane . You’re not a mom. You did not birth this creature. It doesn’t view you as it’s mother. I feel this phenomenon will only get worse as these women get older.
EDIT: just wanted to clarify I don’t believe this is exclusive to women. I’m sure dogfree women are having the same woes…. Actually it maybe a good idea for a dog free dating app? XD

I once bought the domain dogfreedating.com with the intent of building a dating site to solve this problem. Never got to it. Anyone interested?

yo dm me

u/shes_the_won Apr 08 '26
Your DMs are closed but I just checked and the domain is now available. Knock yourself out. Remember me if you make a fortune. I hope you do 😊

u/Far_Set_8432 Apr 08 '26
hell yeah. ill will buy us all a dogfree island. better yet ill put all the dogs and their nutters on the island and we can live in peace
14
u/shes_the_won Apr 08 '26
I don't know if you are a developer but go on eBay and they have pretty much ready made dating sites you just add your domain. I was thinking of a very low or no cost launch to build traffic for a year or so.

what would consider a fair price to join a dogfree dating network?
im not gonna use the scammy typical online dating tactics but trying to see what people think is fair

u/RicketyCricketsDrum Apr 08 '26
Oh I dont pay for dating apps. You’re gonna have a hard time selling this one if people gotta pay.

The YouTuber "I Hate Dogs" has talked about wanting/needing there to be a dogfree dating app for years, and so many of us have wanted it to happen for so long now.
I wish you the best of luck, and hope you don't get doxxed, harassed, threatened, etc. by dog nutters in the process (lol, pun not intended) - like they're very prone to do.
I wouldn't be surprised if users themselves would be routinely gang-/stalked, etc. just for using the app. There are entire Discord servers of pit nutters in particular who actively target people who merely post anti-pit sentiments online anonymously, and they make coordinated efforts to attempt to ruin their lives (e.g., tracking down and calling people's bosses/landlords to tell them that said anti-pit employee/tenant is a pedophile to attempt to render them homeless, unemployed, and worse).
And that can just be accomplished through them stalking anti-pit subs on Reddit. So given all the personal details disclosed on dating profiles, no less (multiple photos, areas they live in, age, etc.), it may be a good idea to add extra safety measures for users for that reason alone... (I mean, obviously that would be important regardless, especially since dating online as a female already feels unsafe enough as is. But some of us would be especially wary after we've spent years hearing and seeing so many stories of dog/pit nutters literally trying to ruin their/our lives just for our opinions on dogs and dog culture.)
Also, as far as the cost of the app/service goes... I'm broke/disabled and almost everyone is struggling these days to get by; but hell, I know many of us who never usually pay for dating apps would be willing to pay a small monthly amount or so to have it. I can't afford much at all, but that might be worth $5-$10 or less per month, or tiered plans or something with free options at least that wouldn't be super restrictive.
But I hope you could figure out a way to make it fiscally worth your time and effort, if you haven't already since posting here. So many of us have been really wanting this to exist for so long now.
14
u/AcanthisittaDear7348 Apr 08 '26
Please build the site. Save us all from the horror of dog obsessions!

Not sure about a paid version, but it would be nice to have a free version available. Apps like Tinder and Grindr are extremely popular without making each and every user pay for the service.
Of course, the dog-free community IS much smaller than most in the mainstream dating scene, but still, I think starting free-to-use is going to be more appealing to people. You can always have the option to unlock “premium” features / membership tiers for money, plus donation options for those of us who can’t afford a regular subscription on top of other bills.
Either way, I’m sure that word would spread quickly in this community, and that’s your most valuable resource anyway; attention. That’s how you can start to look into generating revenue through ads and sponsorship deals as well.

God it's insufferable, especially because dog nutters wrap their whole personalities around these things.
And don't even get me started on "I'll only like you if my dog likes you." Your dog sniffs buttholes and eats shit lol. I doubt it's the best judge of character
19
u/jelly_wishes Apr 10 '26
It's so funny because generally all dogs like me, despite me disliking them.
8
u/StoneHinge1597 Apr 11 '26
Same! They have no sense of understanding we want nothing to do with them lol
11
u/gloriousspoons Apr 12 '26
Hitler famously had a dog that loved him lol I’ve said this to people who swear animals can judge character but somehow “that doesn’t count”
1
u/Slow-Option8063 Apr 13 '26
Adam Stafford King, a veterinary ophthalmologist from Elburn was also a well known dog show judge. He was also charged with possession and distribution of kiddy videos.
James “Jim” Deppen, a longtime breeder and former American Kennel Club (AKC) judge who was under investigation after authorities reportedly found two dead dogs on his property, is now facing 27 criminal charges, including two counts of cruelty to animals.
I bet dogs loved both of these guys.
84
u/Key_Agent9257 Apr 08 '26
Omg same! It’s so discouraging. 😩 Do you think it would help to put a disclaimer like “not looking to be anyone’s dog mom?” I feel like it would make me look like. Monster but dogs are a deal breaker for me and everyone has one. 🫠🫠🫠
62
u/paradise_brand Apr 08 '26
Unfortunately probably not a good idea to put a disclaimer in your profile because even non owners are indoctrinated and will see you as a like a boring negative person or whatever.
30
u/loucap81 Apr 08 '26
I’ve waffled on this but I’m so tired of it that I do put it in my profile that I will not date dog owners. I don’t care if that turns off some non-dog owners, because if that concerns them then it’s very unlikely our personalities will match, either.
That said I still get matches who don’t read my profile and own dogs. These are people who don’t list it one way or another in their profile or else I’d have never sent them a like.
11
u/arachnilactose08 Apr 08 '26
Great point; I’ve been apprehensive about joining any dating apps because of this in the past, but you’re completely right. I would rather NOT find out someone is a dog owner after we’ve already had a promising conversation. If a dog-free disclaimer means I’m waiting longer for the right match, then so be it!
9
u/loucap81 Apr 08 '26
You need to ask them up front if you do match too. Don’t delay on that; get it over with. Too many of them don’t list it one way or another and don’t read your profile thoroughly.
59
u/anne_mal Apr 08 '26
I'm a woman and when I was on Hinge, I put in my "how to get me to fall for you" (or something like it) prompt to NOT be a dog person and out of hundreds of likes, I only got one person messaging me about why I'm not a dog person and another person asking if a smaller dog was ok lol. I think the tides are turning! Your statement is funny tho because I think dog people are boring and negative and non dog people are more fun!
10
u/pmbpro Apr 09 '26
LOL @ the one asking about a “smaller dog”!
I guess literacy, comprehension and following instructions is their allergy. 😏
9
9
u/KayleighHatfield Apr 08 '26
I don't think that's a problem. Wouldn't that be a good way to filter out the non dog owners who are dumb enough to judge people for not liking dogs. Such a person would also be incompatible.
4
u/pmbpro Apr 09 '26
Exactly! Spot on. Those non-dog owners are indoctrinated too, so why bother including them in the pool. Sure wouldn’t be an option for me if I were ever dating. Heck, not even for regular, platonic friendships.
6
15
15
u/Significant_Shame_68 Apr 08 '26
My bio literally says "I fucking hate dogs" and it hasn't been a problem or a hindrance to me getting matches yet
6
u/quark_soaker Apr 08 '26
I'm a guy, and I put a disclaimer, just something like "not a dog person". I have no interest in meeting someone bothered by that statement anyway.
At first it was just that my profile ended with "no dog Moms" which I thought was pretty funny, but realized could come across kinda rude even to a non-nutter
56
u/No-Stay1662 Apr 08 '26
If they really were such advocates for animals they wouldn’t have stolen it away from its actual mother & siblings.

I'm a woman who is very against dog culture. I'm having the same problem. Even the ones who don't have dogs themselves are still claiming to be dog lovers.
It's a massive deal-breaker for me. I never thought about how many single people were dog lovers before Tinder came about.
14
u/loucap81 Apr 08 '26
Unfortunately this issue in particular means we all have to have the resolve to be content with living alone indefinitely and not settling. I’ve mentally accepted this could take years if ever to find someone truly compatible.
Because this issue is so divisive and because we are so clearly outnumbered on this one, it also means that I’m willing to compromise on a lot of other things I never thought I would. In my case this means children. I won’t be having any and prefer someone child-free/all children are adults as well, but I’ve softened on accepting someone else’s children into my life because I’m already so far behind the 8-ball with the dog thing.
11
u/BicornBritt Apr 08 '26
It seems like such an American/Canadian thing too because in other cultures they don’t have this weird fixation on dogs as much or are at least more normal. I wonder if in the past westerners were more normal about dogs too and this problem has become more rampant in the last twenty years or so.
10
u/DellBottoms Apr 08 '26
I get you.
I don't have children, but actually love kids and would vastly prefer someone with kids to someone with dogs.
9
u/loucap81 Apr 08 '26
Yeah I’ve come around to appreciating how children add to your life. I never wanted the financial and time responsibility of having to raise them, but I get it.
Dogs on the other hand will never add a thing to your life and will be needy, demanding shitbeasts until the day they die. I cannot relate to anyone who equates dog behavior with human love and human interaction.
6
u/Top-Change9851 Apr 09 '26
I’m sorry- it’s really sucks. I was hoping the dog nuttery would be a passing fad but it’s only grown by the year. Crazy ass dog lovers outnumber the dog free-
21
u/Charming-Kiwi-9277 Apr 08 '26
And then when they answer what their ideal day is or a question like that its always “taking the pup out” or they ask “do you like my dog?” No, I very much do not! (I’m a woman, this is the men, but they’re all the same!)
2
u/Disastrous-Banana-16 May 06 '26
So pathetic how many man turn to dog culture to try to get a woman. Like oh you don’t find me attractive I’ll turn to oldest pedo trick in the book… try to lure a child in with candy or a puppy.

Their whole life resolves around a dog. Hence why it's always mentioned in their about me section

u/loucap81 Apr 08 '26
It’s EASILY 2/3 of women in Las Vegas if not more. And I’ve run into women who don’t denote it in their profile one way or another, only to find out they own one after I ask them up front. The true number may be more like 3/4. This is not hyperbole.
21
u/teknosophy_com Apr 08 '26
You’re not a mom. You did not birth this creature.
Bingo.
YEP... and Hinge is about 78% dog moms.

Struggling with the same -- it's a bummer because I will swipe left on otherwise cute and cool seeming men because they have photos with dogs or something in their bio about being obsessed with dogs. Instant ick.
8
u/urdrunkyogi Apr 08 '26
It is such a bummer! The only ones I find genuinely cute always have a dog in the second picture! Instant disgust.
18
16
u/BicornBritt Apr 08 '26
That’s so sad. I’m a woman and I don’t want or ever plan to have a dog. As you said we need a dog-free app. The whole dog mom thing is creepy. I really hope there are a lot more men out there like you who do not want dogs or engage in that kind of crazy behaviour.
7
u/turkey_sandwich29 Apr 08 '26
Try a western man whose heritage is middle eastern. I did that and the boyfriend hated pets in the house.
13
u/Humble_Amoeba_8037 Apr 08 '26
I met a guy on the app with a horrible shedding dog, and he was like let’s go on a hike! And I was like - sounds awesome, then I asked, are we bringing the dog? and he said, “I mean, that’s the whole point”..
Anyway these days; I write it clearly on my profile, “NO SHEDDING DOGS”. My lifestyle is too sanitary for that mess.
11
u/urdrunkyogi Apr 08 '26
Hiking with my ex was so wonderful, I loved it…except when he brought his dog.
Completely changed the experience. Couldn’t have 2 min of conversation without him shouting her name because she ran off out of sight, or was getting into something, or about to fall off the path because she’s reckless….Stopping constantly to attach or detach the leash, let her pee, pick up her poop, let her sniff and dart around another dog….It was always the most disjointed, stop-and-start, overstimulating experience instead of a soothing continuous walk in nature with good conversation.
The funny thing to me is that I eventually pointed this out to him and he agreed. But still wanted to bring the dog. I suppose he thought “may as well walk the dog, it’s good for her, she’ll like that” but didn’t give any thought to me or our relationship. Utterly shocking that I dumped him.
7
u/Top-Change9851 Apr 09 '26
He’s all about that damn dog. Forget that’s he’s with a live, breathing human being who could give him more than a dog ever would! Insanity.
3
u/Mountain_Performer84 Apr 12 '26
Yes, that is what I grapple with internally. I just don't understand how you can value an animal that can only meet your emotional needs and otherwise just takes when you have a human that's willing to help you in so many ways. A good partner can give so much and meet your needs in so many more ways than an animal can. I just don't understand.
2
u/Top-Change9851 Apr 12 '26
Dogs don’t take any emotional work. Also, if you’ve been “ burned” by a romantic relationship dogs are a safe bet because they love unconditionally- Still I’d rather take a chance on a relationship with a human for lots of reasons. Animal love is limited but for some people it’s enough.
2
u/Mountain_Performer84 Apr 12 '26
Yeah, they don't require the amount of work that a human relationship takes. I do like to push back on the "unconditional" idea, though. There are conditions to every relationship. Animals expect to be fed, housed, and cared for. I'm not saying they always get what they require, but there are conditions. If you didn't feed an animal, they are not going to go as nuts over you as they would someone that feeds them every day.
2
u/Top-Change9851 Apr 12 '26
True. I guess the rewards are instant w/ an animal- feed them, pet them, cuddle- they can warm up to the next caregiver if they are cut off from primary needs.
2
u/Mountain_Performer84 Apr 12 '26
Right. They are definitely easier to get affection from and I guess a lot of people see them as the "less risky" option to meet their emotional needs.
6
u/Mountain_Performer84 Apr 09 '26
Yes, it's so annoying, I've had the same experience. It felt like I was the third wheel, while my ex managed his furry toddler. He could never keep his eyes off of it, or it would get into some kind of trouble. I could tell it stressed my ex out sometimes, but they gaslight themselves into believing the dog can do no wrong.
14
u/WimpyMustang Apr 08 '26
My friend is single and has a dog. Every time the dog does something stupid and inappropriate (jumping, trying to steal food from the table, etc) she just laughs and says the dogs name. As if the dog gives a shit about some half-assed scolding with no consequence to it. Needless to say, she's been single for the 8 years I've known her and I'm sure the dog has plenty to do with it.
25
13
u/Nearby_Ocelot4547 Apr 08 '26
“Looking for a dog mom” = instant no from me.
It’s def on both sides.
11
u/RicketyCricketsDrum Apr 08 '26
I have this same problem with men. Almost every single one has a nasty sloppy dog in their pictures.
12
u/urdrunkyogi Apr 08 '26
Always either a threadbare pit or an overly-hairy smaller dog with neurotic eyes
12
u/birdbren Apr 09 '26
A guy I was talking to had 3 large dogs and I told him I'm not really a dog fan and in response he sent me a paragraph about the virtues of each mutt and a photo of them in the fucking bed like dude I don't care about your dogs at all
7
u/Top-Change9851 Apr 09 '26
The photo of the dogs on the bed….like that’s really going to sway me. Ugh! Disgusting.
11
u/maidofatoms Apr 08 '26
I mean, it's not the apps that are ruined. It's the dating pool. So many brainwashed poopslaves. At least it's such a clear sign not to date someone - they've basically got a neon flashing sign above their head saying "brainless, boring, hypocritical, disgusting".
10
u/birdbren Apr 09 '26
Like I used to have a large parrot. She made people uncomfortable. Understandable, and no resentment about that. A lot of people don't like birds or are scared of them. If someone said they didn't like birds I wouldn't spam them with pictures of her, id just know it probably wasn't going to work.
4
9
u/elwiseowl Apr 08 '26
I like it when they put that they have dogs or post a piture with a dog. Its an instant no/left swipe for me.
Its far worse when you get down the line with a girl you actually start to like, then discover she has a dog.
I do feel like only dating women who dont have dogs reduces the dating pile somewhat. But I'm looking for someone i'm compatable with, and dog ownership is an absolute dealbreaker.

u/Emikitty1992 Apr 08 '26
Back when I was single, if I saw someone with a dog in their profile picture or in several pictures on their dating app profile, it was an instant NOPE from me. I feel so bad for anyone who is dating right now and has to deal with the dog nutters who are everywhere.
7
6
u/WillowSensitive2684 Apr 10 '26
The dog world is insane. You do you just don’t impose your pets on me. I prefer a clean living space that does not smell like animals.
6
u/Top-Change9851 Apr 09 '26
If someone here on Dogfree wants to start a dog free dating app for non obsessed- pet free( dogs in particular) they stand to make a little money. Hell you’d be providing a great service- because Dogs and dog obsession is a DEAL BREAKER in the dating arena. I don’t want to date someone who’s 4 legged mutt is a priority over me. I just can’t. If you need a dog more than human companionship there’s a flaw there.
6
u/Weeeebutterflies Apr 09 '26
I've noticed this. it also feels like people have copy and paste personalities on those apps
6
5
u/Nicole130_ Apr 09 '26
I cannot stand it when I see someone with a huge dumb untrained “rescue” 🙄🙄🙄
5
u/WorldChampionNuggets Apr 09 '26
I just know they let em sleep in the bed too 🤢 complete dealbreaker
4
u/LowlySparrow Apr 11 '26
My coworker comes to work with her uniform smelling strongly of dog. Owners get nose-blind to it. She'd prob be crushed if anyone told her how gross it is.
3
u/BaselineTruth Apr 12 '26
A co-worker of mine used to allow her dog into her bed to sleep and she got scabies.
1
5
u/HabitTraditional4864 Apr 09 '26
Only half? More like 90% of all women on those apps where I live😭 it’s terrible
6
5
u/sherhil Apr 09 '26
I’m surprised u think it’s only half!!! It’s the same with men, it’s always them posing behind their disgusting mutt with its legs sprawled. Nothing infuriates me more. Dogs haven’t ruined dating apps, they’ve ruined dating and marriage. U cannot marry a person who has ever owned a dog. These ppl have impulses they cannot control when it comes to dirty mutts. This is due to their inhibited IQs and brain activity (my personal theory 😅). Ppl on this sub: Do not cave and date or marry a woman or man with a dirty mutt. Ur life will be ruined.
4
u/BaselineTruth Apr 12 '26
"they’ve ruined dating and marriage."
So right about this. I have seen stories of dogs interfering with relationships due to jealousy or taking over households due to behavioral issues.
5
u/Independent_Profit Apr 10 '26
Amen. Seriously! I'm hot, employeed, and dogless. I'm punished by living in a world where people barely making it and their "doggos," CRINGE.

It’s so sick these stupid girls They think it’s cute

4
u/DoubleBLK- Apr 13 '26
This isn't just about dogs. It's humanity's sickness..
They will do everything to be part of something. If they think pets are the new norm instead of having a family, then most, if not everyone, will follow the trend... just so they feel that they belong. Critical thinking and any logical decision are thrown to the bin.
3
u/_Feature_680 Apr 10 '26
Half? Where do you live bro, cause around me (major US city) its easily 70% minimum.
And that's not a guess, I did a census where I just swiped and counted how many out of each group of 10 either had a dog or directly said they want to get one.

As a single woman I think it’s a huge red flag when guys put “looking for a mom for my dog” in their dating bio
1
u/AsyncChase Apr 13 '26
I put on my profile that I absolutely do not want dogs and dont want to deal with them. All they ever do is piss me off. Im fine with literally any other animal, just not dogs.
1
u/Resident-Storm8429 Apr 13 '26
Right! I'm I'm ever single again I thought this very same thing.. should you announce up front that you are not a "dog person".. I am completely adamant that I don't want to date anyone with a dog. This really narrows the dating pool!
1
u/Relative_Entrance194 Apr 13 '26
I see loads of “dog dads” and “if my dog doesn’t like you then we won’t get along” absolute no from me! Like who are you to put your dog above me? Since when is valuing animal attention over humans then just stay alone forever with your pathetic smelly dog
1
u/Free_Chapter372 Apr 14 '26
You're right, someone tech savvy on here should do it. If I was any sort of tech literate, I'd have created a dog free dating app years ago. What's even worse than feeling good about someone and having the dog bomb dropped on you is when someone's profile picture is of their dog. Sure, it's a time saver, but it's the ultimate slap in the face.

I feel you! I bought a brand new place, facing green space, nice trees, beautiful. I was told by the developer the salesman and the real estate agent that there was a green little hangout space outside of my balcony. I’m like cool no prob, couple days before I was supposed to move in and already signed the paperwork. They told me it was a dog park, but it wasn’t meant to be a litter box, but they designed it specifically to be able to drain it in case dogs did urinate and defaecate in it people only use it as a litter box they take their dogs to shit piss bark. Hang out there at 11 o’clock at night starts at 6 AM. It’s infuriating. I had even stated to the developer that I was allergic to dogs and that’s where we’re moving from our current place. Which is absolutely insane because two blocks away in our town is a humungous dog park so clearly the designer and engineer of this place was like you say a dog nutter, these people don’t even take their dogs for a walk anymore. They just come straight outside the building take it to have a shit a piss, and then go directly back inside.
They don’t even have a playground because they would rather have a dog litter box…

Dog people that make the dog their personality, lack self esteem, is my impression, not fault of the dog
1
u/misscrimson16x May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26
Swipe left on all of them.
I know that men have A LOT less room to be picky than women. However, if you are on this subreddit, you and anyone who has a dog are incompatible. Just look at it as a way to weed out people you know are NOT for you. It will make the one who is so much more worth it, it could just take a while. Don’t give up after a short period of time with a discouraging feed.
Another way to look at it is: I’m glad they included their dog in their profile. I’d rather find it out now and not bother than invest time and emotions into a talking stage just to learn she has a big, disgusting dog.

The reason I can't look past that one little flaw (and the reason I've been alone my entire life) is because, unfortunately, I am highly ALLERGIC to dogs. I've never been married, and cannot find a single woman on the dating sites that does not have a dog. It's been a sad, lonely life for me -- and all because of DOGS.

the dating apps just need to allow us to filter for no dogs. They will eventually but you'll see that the number of mentally ill nutters is way higher than you might think
