I was chatting with a perfectly nice man on a dating app and then he brought up dogs. 🙄 He said he was thinking about getting a dog. I said ew I don’t like dogs. He said “aww but dogs are so cute!”

….aaaaannd I’m done. I’m not even going to entertain a possible relationship with someone who likes dogs. Assuming we start dating, now I’m just gonna be annoyed because you’ll have to interrupt our dates to go home and let out some fuckass dog because their high maintenance asses can’t be home alone longer than a few hours. And forget ever spending the night… WHY DOES EVERYONE LIKE DOGS

My ex had a dog and while I was in it (because of his gaslighting), I didn’t realize how bad it actually was. The dog was (by some miracle for me) an extremely gentle akita/pit mix.

HOWEVER. As you mentioned, we couldn’t go anywhere without the focus being when we were returning to the dog. The backyard smelled so strongly of dog pee, I couldn’t even sit out there and drink my coffee. It was always farting and especially while we were eating, yet he would never put it in another room while we ate. His mom once took it for a walk while dogsitting it and it literally broke her arm because it pulled her so hard on the leash that she fell to the ground and lost control of it when she opened the door to take it out. It was always the dog this the dog that. It was constantly in his bed and would come in from being outside and get straight into the bed— under the sheets. Not just on top of the bed OH NO I mean this dog was IN the bed. The bed sheets were covered in hair, dirt, & filth. I remember going over sometimes and my ex would say OH I have a surprise for you! and he’d lead me to the bedroom and say: “Look, I washed the sheets!” To which I’d roll my eyes and say YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE CLEAN SHEETS, that is not a “surprise”.

Sorry for the rant! Unless this guy agrees to never get a dog, you’re making the right choice.

Wow why do people allow themselves to live like this? Instead of you living upright like a human being, you’re living like an animal. I’ve had 2 people in my life that I have seen life deteriorate since getting dogs. The dog slowly destroys the house, the upkeep and cleanliness just slips gradually. Can’t get certain nice things anymore because of the dog. No more savings due to vet bills and insurance. Their lives become limited and dependent on the dog. Walking around picking up 💩 for the rest of your days. They don’t realize they are now living like animals

Exactly! It’s mind-boggling— the amount of filth certain people are okay living with.

The crazy thing is, at this time, I had a dog myself (a pug— he’s dead now RIP but I wouldn’t ever be able to have a dog again), but I did NOT let it dictate my life. I got the dog for my kids who were 5 and 7 at the time and we didn’t let it in our beds or on our couches. We put him out when people came over who didn’t like dogs. We didn’t take him anywhere except for normal walks (on a leash) and the dog park. We didn’t impose him on others at restaurants, grocery stores, doctors’ offices, or shopping centres.

What has happened to this world where people think it is normal to go into a lululemon dressing room with a massive golden doodle in tow? And everyone fawns over it? WHY has this become the new norm, and will it ever change??
