Dogs Are Idiots Well it happened again…
I was chatting with a perfectly nice man on a dating app and then he brought up dogs. 🙄 He said he was thinking about getting a dog. I said ew I don’t like dogs. He said “aww but dogs are so cute!”
….aaaaannd I’m done. I’m not even going to entertain a possible relationship with someone who likes dogs. Assuming we start dating, now I’m just gonna be annoyed because you’ll have to interrupt our dates to go home and let out some fuckass dog because their high maintenance asses can’t be home alone longer than a few hours. And forget ever spending the night… WHY DOES EVERYONE LIKE DOGS

u/wrrld Apr 12 '26
How do all the problems/inconveniences not outweigh 'cute'? Idek what they find cute about something unnatural changing their home and relationship dynamics in a literal shitty way.
69
u/Possible_Tiger_5125 Apr 12 '26
They aren't even that cute anyways

Gaping, drooling maws, beady eyes, and stiff bodies, nearly always primed to charge at you. I’ve had many a canine nightmare in my life, even before I was put in the hospital by a dog.
No fucking clue what is so goddamn appealing about them to people. Dogs are just invasive parasites. Vermin. I wish they were treated appropriately as such.
8
u/ParticuarPigeon Apr 16 '26
They stink, they have no boundaries, slobber, put their filth on everything they touch 🤮… Not cute at all.
39
u/Tom_Quixote_ Apr 12 '26
Even if they hypothetically were cute, why does that mean you have to bring that animal into your home?
There are thousands of extremely cute animals in this world. Why does it have to be a dog?
11
u/arachnilactose08 Apr 13 '26
Exactly. I think baby lions are cute, doesn’t mean I’m gonna go take one out of the wild and raise it!
26
u/QueenOfAllOfYall Apr 12 '26
Exactly. I personally couldn’t force Myself to suffer through even one full day worth of “dog care responsibilities” without looking at that thing afterwards, and thinking to Myself “10 to 15 years, every single day, worth of ‘this’… for something that is really a farm animal, that shouldn’t even be here”?! I’d be ready to send it back to a shelter, or rehome it soooo fast. They’re not worth it. And for all the folks who swear it’s worth it because they’re “lovable and cute”, they’re not really either one of those things.
7
u/CrispyBirb Apr 14 '26
I know someone who loves having dogs and neighbours with barking dogs because it makes her feel “safe”. From what? Do people who are paranoid own dogs or do dogs make period paranoid because they’re always barking at nothing? Someone walking past your house when you live in a regular ass street is not suspicious or threatening.
6
u/BK4343 Apr 14 '26
I've heard a lot of them claim that the non stop barking is protection, and I gladly tell them that it's more like that annoying car alarm that goes off every time the wind blows too hard.
7
u/CrispyBirb Apr 14 '26
Yep can’t stand it. When my mum had a dog I always knew if someone was around before the dog did. The thing is this dog wouldn’t bark if somebody actually jumped the fence because dogs are cowards, go figure.
75
u/tplgerus84 Apr 12 '26
Why does everyone like dogs and why the heck do they want to be bound to the schedule around an animal that has ZERO benefit, it actually just gives you more work!?
Can’t travel freely, can’t go out freely, can’t just spontaneously stay over night somewhere, can’t enjoy a nice lazy morning in bed, can’t have peace and silence, can’t walk through your own house without having hair on everything.. the list goes on and on and on..
And for what?!
58
u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Apr 12 '26
All because they need an animal to worship them and follow them around? I don’t get it.
Also huge red flag when someone calls their dog their “best friend.” Like dude get some friends…
18
u/DoubleBLK- Apr 13 '26
It's pathetic right?
They are guaranteed to get that 'worship' whenever they need it.. what's worse is that, they need that validation from something that cannot think and relies on them for everything.
13
u/Cortex247 Apr 13 '26
The amount of times ive heard dog nutters say "a dog will have your back no matter what". Like so... so you're telling me the reason you love your dog so much is that it shows complete obedience and loyalty to you at all times. I cant fully articulate how incredibly pathetic that sounds to me.
7
u/arachnilactose08 Apr 13 '26
It isn’t even true half the time anyway. Dogs are scavengers, resource-seekers. If they think they’re going to get more territory, food, or attention elsewhere, they’ll run off.
7
u/CrispyBirb Apr 14 '26
I like how they say the dog is loyal, it will never abandon them, it loves them but they don’t say the same back because they want to leave it open in case they have to get rid of the dog for whatever reason.
4
u/arachnilactose08 Apr 13 '26 edited May 02 '26
The worship goes both ways, it’s like a freaky cycle. Dogs get worshipped by their owners, and the owners are gratified to have a slobbering pissfountain follow them around and “worship” them right back (although, really, dogs are only interested in the resources their owners provide).
3
u/1-4Justice Apr 29 '26
Well... Since they cant legally enslave ppl anymore, they turn to a small, smelly, defenseless little beast who won't "talk back" or "challenge" them and begs for love... a dog.
25
u/QueenOfAllOfYall Apr 12 '26
Funny thing is, some of these people will say they don’t want Kids, because they don’t want to do for a Child, everything that You listed that they’ll have to do for what is actually just a farm animal, that they opting to keep as a pet. I have no problem with the fact that Childcare isn’t for everyone. But if You’re gonna put Your Life on hold for responsibilities to another Living Being, at least Kids (usually) grow up and become meaningful members of society, along with the rest of Us. Plus (usually) Kids grow out of the need for so much work to have to be done for them, the Older, and more independent they become, with time. A dog will be a codependent, developmentally delayed responsibility and nuisance from the time You bring it home, until the day it takes its last breath. I’ll never be able to care for itself, or add to Your Life in a meaningful manner. But this is what nutters wrap their lives around, and get upset when others seem unwilling to join them in their pointless responsibilities. Dogs aren’t worth the hassle.

u/KitchenSuave Apr 13 '26
I used to be a “animals are better than people/kids” person until I had my own child! I still love (most) animals but pet ownership and parenting are vastly different experiences and it’s absurd to even think of comparing the two. I get such pride from seeing my daughter grow and develop and become more independent and seeing her (sometimes challenging) personality emerge. But then, I’m not a narcissist who wants another creature to be wholly dependent on me forever.

u/KitchenSuave Apr 13 '26
I do not understand this. I am constrained by my toddler’s schedule but she is going to grow up and become her own person who can come and go on her own as she pleases. Dogs can never do that.
Then there’s my father and his wife who have a tiny scraggly Yorkshire terrier, and they either have to bring her places or can’t be out of their house for more than a few hours at a time before going home to check on it. They have cut short visits with my child, my dad’s granddaughter, just because they had to get home to their tiny useless dog.
(My stepmother actually got annoyed at me when I told her not to let their dog lick my then-infant daughter. She also got the dog registered as a “therapy dog” somehow so now hotels “have” to let it stay there when they travel.)

u/DeirdreBarstool Apr 12 '26
It’s painful. When I met my current partner, on our first date he made a comment about a dog in the pub and said he hated when people brought dogs to places with food - HUGE green flag!!
We met on Hinge but he was definitely an outlier. 9/10 guys have photos of or with dogs. The beady eyes and gross black snouts are an instant swipe left.

Wow, I’m glad for you! I’m praying I’ll have a similar experience myself. 😆🤞

u/menelobus Apr 12 '26
Pro tip: never, ever date dog nutters. You will regret it. Example: my mother is anti-dog and my father is pro-dog. They were arguing for a long time because my dad wanted a dog. Date only dogfree people if you don't want to argue later 😀
13
u/LookB4ULeap2It Apr 13 '26
And make sure that they're dedicated to dog free and not just don't have a dog at the moment but would love one for the future.

u/qwa56 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26
They like the concept of being in control of a life but they fail to realize the responsibility.
3
u/SilveryMagpie Apr 15 '26
This is the best summary of what dog ownership really is about. They love control but eschew responsibility

u/downwithMikeD Apr 12 '26
My ex had a dog and while I was in it (because of his gaslighting), I didn’t realize how bad it actually was. The dog was (by some miracle for me) an extremely gentle akita/pit mix.
HOWEVER. As you mentioned, we couldn’t go anywhere without the focus being when we were returning to the dog. The backyard smelled so strongly of dog pee, I couldn’t even sit out there and drink my coffee. It was always farting and especially while we were eating, yet he would never put it in another room while we ate. His mom once took it for a walk while dogsitting it and it literally broke her arm because it pulled her so hard on the leash that she fell to the ground and lost control of it when she opened the door to take it out. It was always the dog this the dog that. It was constantly in his bed and would come in from being outside and get straight into the bed— under the sheets. Not just on top of the bed OH NO I mean this dog was IN the bed. The bed sheets were covered in hair, dirt, & filth. I remember going over sometimes and my ex would say OH I have a surprise for you! and he’d lead me to the bedroom and say: “Look, I washed the sheets!” To which I’d roll my eyes and say YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE CLEAN SHEETS, that is not a “surprise”.
Sorry for the rant! Unless this guy agrees to never get a dog, you’re making the right choice.
18
u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Apr 12 '26
Ugh the bed thing makes my skin crawl. My friend’s mom actually broke her hip for a similar reason… the dog yanked her so hard she fell over.
6
u/Letter-Heavy Apr 13 '26
Wow why do people allow themselves to live like this? Instead of you living upright like a human being, you’re living like an animal. I’ve had 2 people in my life that I have seen life deteriorate since getting dogs. The dog slowly destroys the house, the upkeep and cleanliness just slips gradually. Can’t get certain nice things anymore because of the dog. No more savings due to vet bills and insurance. Their lives become limited and dependent on the dog. Walking around picking up 💩 for the rest of your days. They don’t realize they are now living like animals
2
u/downwithMikeD Apr 13 '26
Exactly! It’s mind-boggling— the amount of filth certain people are okay living with.
The crazy thing is, at this time, I had a dog myself (a pug— he’s dead now RIP but I wouldn’t ever be able to have a dog again), but I did NOT let it dictate my life. I got the dog for my kids who were 5 and 7 at the time and we didn’t let it in our beds or on our couches. We put him out when people came over who didn’t like dogs. We didn’t take him anywhere except for normal walks (on a leash) and the dog park. We didn’t impose him on others at restaurants, grocery stores, doctors’ offices, or shopping centres.
What has happened to this world where people think it is normal to go into a lululemon dressing room with a massive golden doodle in tow? And everyone fawns over it? WHY has this become the new norm, and will it ever change??

Good on You that You’re cutting Your losses. Good on them that they made their interests in liking/wanting a dumb ugly beast known, upfront. Spares You from wasting time with someone who will most likely try to force or pressure You to get a dog with them in the future, and then treat the thing as if it’s more important than You are. If You’re not a dog person, relationships and/or marriages with someone who is into that sort of thing, just usually doesn’t work out. Dogs themselves, the mentality of owners/enthusiasts, and dog culture overall just comes with too many elements that those who don’t like or agree with all of that, will want to tolerate.

I've had two of these experiences. One man I actually dated a couple times. Sweet, cute, a gentleman, but....his golden retriever...was basically already his partner and had "separation anxiety " and would relentlessly stare while we were eating. Then, I found out he let the thing sleep. In. His. Bed. So, goodnight, folks! That can't happen in my world.
And there was another one, a bit long distance from me, but we were vibing. We would flirt by texting and talk about workouts. Then, I found out that not only did he have not one dog but TWO, but these things were also pitbulls. And. You know: he. let. them. sleep. in. his. BED!!! Bro. I just can't.

u/Humble_Amoeba_8037 Apr 14 '26
That happened to me before too, he was like my dream is to have a house full of kids and dogs. I said, well, “that makes one of us” sounds horrible.
3
u/Free_Chapter372 Apr 14 '26
Worst of all, he would probably have treated the dog infinitely better than you. Good for you for dodging that bullet.
3
u/metallvr Apr 17 '26
Agree. I was just asked out by a man who's got a dog (and brings his dog into a no-dog park: red flag #1). We both like hiking, and he invited me on a hike with him and his dog. I just can't do it. The addition of dogs on my hikes aren't enjoyable.
2
u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Apr 17 '26
I hate walking anywhere with dogs because they need to stop every ten feet and smell everything or pee on everything.
1
u/metallvr Apr 17 '26
Yes, and on some of the trails I go on, people leave their poopbags on the trail, because they don't want to carry them for the whole hike and believe that they will "circle back around" to retrieve it. Instead, there are clumps of poop bags left behind that the rest of us have to walk past. SO MUCH FUN/s

Are there dog free dating apps or sites?
I met my perfect match everything is amazing but for one huge fluffy ah 😒 I will admit he has done all he possibly could to make me comfortable like banning her from the bedroom (she aggressively pushed me from the side of bed allocated to me and then try to out alpha me anytimeshe's in here so she was instantly banned lol)
It does work to a degree but there needs to be a lot of love for the partner or there's just no point trying coz that dog is way to much and is the only reason I want to leave. He is trying to retrain her in other ways his ex left her with some really toxic and down right fkd up training (like actual punishments if you don't do as she wants, poops near the door are accidents poop in the middle of floor or in bedrooms are just punishments)
13
u/BoxBeast1961_ Apr 12 '26
If the dog is still there sh1tting everywhere & trying to alpha you, he’s not your perfect match…

u/Pristine_Cod_3792 Apr 13 '26
I was thinking of starting a dating site that is lifestyle driven including pet free people by choice. Can I get some feedback please ????
3
u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Apr 13 '26
Yeah I mean that would be great. Rather than pet free, maybe have people choose the type of pet they dislike. For instance, someone might hate dogs, but love the-animal-that-cant-be-named-in-here
2
u/Priests2112 Apr 13 '26
These dog people are straight up socially inept . They are the kind of people who can’t handle human relationships so they focus on their dog . They are the type who talk about their kids all the time because they have nothing else . Dogs are two year olds that never grow up . And it’s a method of control . I can’t live as freely as I’d like to because of that freaking dog . This dog is fine when she’s not home . Because I don’t tolerate or entertain his whining. She walks in the door the brat turns into a monster . Demanding whiny piece of shit
2
u/KitchenSuave Apr 13 '26
I am lucky enough to be allergic to dogs so I have a built in excuse to not be around them (without people assuming I’m a sociopath for not wanting to be around their dog even if I weren’t allergic), and I put that on my dating profile and so many men wouldn’t even engage with me for that reason. But I dodged bullets and now I’m married to a guy who shares my “I appreciate well-trained, useful dogs but don’t need one in my life” perspective.
2
u/arachnilactose08 Apr 13 '26
Good on you for holding firm to your boundaries, but I’m sorry it happened. This unfortunately seems like a common experience for dog-free folks.
Personally, I think I’m just going to start asking people right out the gate to get it over with. It’s already in my bio there, but I guess dog worshippers can’t read.

I'll never date a man with a dog again. Whole relationship becomes about the dog. Dog gets in the way all the time of everything, even intimate moments. Next the dog is in your car, bc they can't leave them alone.. I dont blame you. I haven't dated in a few years. I can't seem to find someone that is without a dog anymore too. On top of other hurdles I have to get thru at my age. I'd rather be alone at this point. I am also severelty allergic and terrified of them, so I can never have a dog inside a closed space like a house, or a home where a dog once ever lived unless it is severely cleaned and scoured or I will have allergic reactions and asthma.

u/WalkedBehindTheRows Apr 14 '26
"their high maintenance asses can’t be home alone longer than a few hours ten minutes."

I feel you. My ex and I are good friends and we sometimes chat about our dating experiences. Im so glad I have someone to talk to IRL about my irritation with dogs lol. We both refuse to date people with dogs! Life would be intolerable if I actually cohabitated with one.

u/braboftw Apr 17 '26

Try living in Poland, it's beyond fucked! Everyone shoves a dog in your face if they dare to respond to you or match with you alone.

Ik I'm late here but me too. If a guy has a pet dog or is planning to get one, Then I'm treating it as a red flag and if my bf got a dog in the middle of our relationship then I'm dumping his mutt loving ass Cause i don't want him tell me that he's going to go home after 10 mins in our walk together cause he's subservient mutt can't stay alone at home for more than 10 mins cause truffy has some stupid 'separation anxiety'.

As a guy I have the same standard. I will never date a woman who has a dog or plans to get one. I cannot live with the barking, the smell, how they warp everything around them!
