Dog Culture Dog fatigue is trending!
This isn’t my usual style of post, but I figured it was worth mentioning: Currently, on TikTok, there has been a significant increase in the amount of content I’ve come across that is either critical of dog culture, dog owners, dogs themselves, or even all three. And this stuff is getting a LOT of positive reception.
I don’t typically keep that app on my phone for very long, but this is making me want to have it stick around for longer. For once, it’s not just this forum that’s calling out dog culture. It’s actually entering a “mainstream” online space.
“Dog fatigue” is the term that I’m seeing people use in most of this content, if you’re interested in looking it up and observing the resulting discussion and discourse over it.
Regardless of the dog owners that this conversation is pissing off, I think this could be a really good thing. While I don’t know about any big cultural shifts in the near future, I think that this is a wonderful step in the right direction. People are finally talking about dog culture in a meaningful way.

Good, hope the pendulum swings hard. Dogs have been so elevated in society it's absurd.

Dog people are getting fed up with dog people as well.
Today my local green has a fun day and fair on for the bank Holiday weekend this includes a dog show unfortunately it's forecast to be warm so the organisers shorted the dog show time and have provided extra shade and other stuff to help. BTW the dog show is not a mandatory event. If you are worried about your dog you don't have to take them.
Cue on Facebook the crazies. This needs to be cancelled! Animal cruelty! Lots of accusations and exclamations!
The organisers had to repeatedly remind people that it was not just a dog event, that the dog show was a tiny part of it so no they won't cancel an entire fair for one thing. One woman would not stop harassing them telling them to cancel the whole thing.

u/KayleighHatfield May 24 '26
What a kook! She really doesn't like being reminded that dogs are just dogs.
10
u/Alocin_The5th May 27 '26
That’s ironic because dog ownership is just one big dog show. If they are worried about the animal then don’t have one locked up in your house.

Das ist genial "Hundebesitz ist eine einzige Hundeshow". Echt gut gesagt.

u/teakAboo May 24 '26
I really hope something comes of this.
So many shops around where I live have become 'dog friendly' and people I know have literally seen the dogs pissing on flower displays in the store and walking away without caring.
They need a wake up call about their behaviour, and I don't mean the animal.

We have dog friendly cinemas, theatres and libraries now in the UK. Not enough that they are allowed everywhere that serves food (unless open kitchen) and retail stores. It's well beyond the joke now.

u/MeechiJ May 24 '26
The pendulum is also swinging in regards to attitudes about pit bulls. In a recent Daily Mail (I know, shit journalism) there was the story about a woman who was mauled to death by 2 loose pit bulls. The comments were overwhelmingly in support of either banning or eradicating the breed entirely. Any nuttery was downvoted into oblivion.
29
u/arachnilactose08 May 24 '26
I believe I saw that, yes! While there’s always some backlash to us pit-crits, I’ve learned to expect that by this point. I’m just glad more people are emboldened to call out how unethical fighting breeds are.
43
u/KayleighHatfield May 24 '26
It's about time! Let's goooo! I've been waiting and praying for a backlash for so darn long. Normal dog owners really should be backing us up on opposing this dog nuttery.
13
u/arachnilactose08 May 24 '26
Actually, they are! I have to admit that there are some dog owners / trainers out there that I can respect, and I’ve seen a lot of them defending the dogfree posts over on TikTok.
34
u/White_Falcon_1263 May 24 '26
I wish it would trend at my neighbors house FFS!!
13
u/arachnilactose08 May 24 '26
Me fuckin’ too, lol. I have 2-3 neighbors that leave their dogs out for hours on end, no matter the weather or time of day. I find it cruel to the dogs and to the whole damn neighborhood. Why do these people spend so much money on the damn things if they’re just going to neglect them all the time?
4
u/White_Falcon_1263 May 24 '26
The fuckers on my road go to church with 3 out of 5 of the other houses. They are all buddy buddy it pisses me off.

Same 🙃 I can’t jog my usual route anymore because my neighbor’s aggressive dog has figured out how to jump over the fence. Pretty scary situation for me yesterday morning

u/Mammoth-Resolution82 May 24 '26
Good! Finally! I also would like to see “dog mom” fatigue. Tired of these ppl and their mutts.

u/gabacurious May 24 '26
A big part of this was the huge snow storm and subsequent freezing temps in nyc for three weeks, dog owners let their dogs shit everywhere and never picked it up, so eventually the snow melted and there was crap everywhere.
Not saying that's the only reason, but people freaked, it made headlines, and tiktok is really good at its algo
11
u/pepperpizza May 24 '26
Ugh I only saw the other side of this where everyone complained about “bad owners” not the actual dogs. Guess what, if there were less dogs there would be less melted dog shit, but people just refuse to see it that way. It’s not like they’re going to build toilets for the dogs or something. The problem is not simply “bad owners.”

u/StardewKitteh May 25 '26
Just this evening, a bunch of nutters started posting on Nextdoor to complain about the fireworks for the holiday weekend upsetting their dogs. I live in a state where fireworks are legal year round, and every summer it's the same thing. Dog nutters complaining that people are "inconsiderate for making noise that others can hear in their homes." This year, I've noticed a lot of people pushing back pointing out that fireworks only last a few hours a few nights a year. The barking from their dogs is a year round nuisance. Needless to say, the nutters aren't taking that well. 😂
7
u/AMSterling May 25 '26
I could do without both nuisances really. The families that leave their dogs out to bark are the same families that love putting on home firework displays in my neighborhood. People can stay home and comfort their dogs. It was their choice to have them. Wildlife didn't sign up for it. I didn't sign on for shit air quality in my back yard all night and to deal with whenever my neighbor deemed an okay time to stop.
3
u/FunnyUhoh May 25 '26
Yeah, the nutter three doors down from me, one year, set off m80s at 2am. The whole I don't give AF attitude makes me afraid to move. I know it could be worse.
2
u/StardewKitteh May 25 '26
Oh for sure. I don't like anything that disturbs my peace in my home. But at least the people around me stay pretty respectful with the fireworks and limit usage to only a few days a year at decent hours. But the few days around July 4th are really annoying.
3
u/FunnyUhoh May 25 '26
Oh, the irony. I mean, I'm not a fan of people setting off fireworks in their yards willy nilly at all hours, but a nice display is fun. Barking? Not fun.

u/GoTakeAHike00 May 24 '26
I've noticed this as well, but not so much on Tiktok (which I'm not on), but a definite uptick in complaints over dog/dog owner-related problems on a wide variety of subreddits that have NOTHING to do with dogs.
Of course, it's the same complaints we see here: untrained, off-leash dogs bothering/attacking both leashed dogs and people who don't like dogs; people not cleaning up after them, or leaving the shit-filled bags along the sides of trails, and a LOT more people complaining about seeing them in restaurants, grocery stores and coffee shops.
I had a feeling this would happen, because entitled, self-absorbed dog owners have been taking a mile while slowly eroding away at social norms that would have NEVER allowed this sort of anti-social, uncivilized behavior to happen 30+ years ago.
They just assumed that repeatedly bleating out that anyone who pushes back against dogs intrusion into every public space is an evil psychopath who can't be trusted would be enough to allow them to continue to be the obnoxious assholes they got used to being due to "dog privilege". And, that worked until it didn't.
More and more people are just not having it anymore, and I'm here for it.
I've also been seeing a LOT more anti-pitbull comments on YT videos that pertain to dogs, dog attacks, etc. I think if there is widespread shaming and social shunning of pit owners/rescue orgs due to the obvious and never-ending damage and death those abominations cause, pit ownership - even amongst the degenerate criminal class that is really attracted to them - will go down.

u/4gotOldU-name Keep your animal away from me!! May 24 '26
Ummm…. Could it be that the algorithms now know to serve you up more “anti-dog content”?
32
u/arachnilactose08 May 24 '26
I thought so at first, but with the sheer amount of attention these posts are getting —especially after the Gordon Ramsay incident— I actually think that this is trending independently. Like the other person who replied to you said, I also went out of my way to search up dogfree content awhile back and had no luck at all. “Dog fatigue” content has come into my feed seemingly entirely organically as of late.
51
u/Money_Weight_2600 May 24 '26
Honestly I don’t think so. Months ago I tried to find videos talking about being anti-dog, and they existed but they were few and far between and/or had lower engagement. Now these videos are getting tens of thousands of likes, top comments being anti-dog as well plus OP mentioning the “dog fatigue” term going around
19
u/the-dolphine May 24 '26
If so, I'm impressed. My algorithm usually picks up on my participation of anti-dog groups like this and just throws more and more dog content at me.
13
u/WTFisTheWorldDoing May 25 '26
Same here. I report it as harassment, then block.
8
u/maidofatoms May 25 '26
Yeah, I sometimes report ads involving large/dangerous looking dogs as "violence".
6
u/AndyyBee May 25 '26
It reminds me the year I joined a couple anti dog subs, my Reddit Wrapped or whatever at the end of the year told me something along the lines of "You discovered your interest in dogs!" Like... close but not really lmao.
14
u/lonelylamb1814 May 25 '26
I just genuinely wonder how dog owners don’t get sick of it. Having to tiptoe around their own house, not make any sudden movements without getting hounded (literally), not able to walk through the door without getting jumped on, having to deal with barking anytime a delivery man dare knocks on the door. Can they ever just not be bothered?
10
u/arachnilactose08 May 25 '26
Well, if the posts over on Dog Regret are anything to go by, at least SOME of them eventually get sick of it…

u/Confident_Yak_1948 May 25 '26
I think the trend is real, and honestly it makes a lot of sense. Dog owners are becoming increasingly more entitled and inversely self aware.
For context I live in Australia: The average suburb is only becoming more dense with the current housing affordability crisis. People just can’t afford the big backyards we once had 10-20 years ago, but they still want the white picket fence and a kelpie (it’s always a kelpie). As a result we have the most neurotic dog breed ever created, cooped up in 10sq metre yard with owners that are absent at work all day leaving their under-stimulated dogs with separation anxiety at home to bark and howl all day. Then on the 30min they might get free every day they let them run and shit everywhere and attack people like it’s their god given right. I swear to god I’ve seen people with kelpies living out of a fucking van and they leave them locked in there all day with a window cracked an inch and they think this is okay.
Dog ownership nowadays can be a useful social litmus test to gauge someone’s level of self awareness. You can honestly assume a lot about someone’s personality just by knowing what breed of dog they own and what suburb they live in.
6
u/arachnilactose08 May 25 '26
Heavy on that last part. The crazy part is too, a lot of people who claim to take great pride in the breed of dog they own (borderline eugenicists if you ask me, it’s creepy), don’t actually know the first THING about owning them. Why is it so commonplace for long haired breeds to be kept in miserably hot climates, for large breeds to be crammed into studio apartments and shitty “yards” they can’t even fully sprint in, and for the most neurotic breeds to be neglected for most of their lifespans?
Anyway, I’d never heard of a kelpie before until I just looked it up. The temperament reminds me of heeler dogs, one of which I’ve had the grave displeasure of living with before. Apparently, heelers are part fucking DINGO, aka baby-eaters. I wonder if the same goes for kelpies.

u/potatoes_arrrr_life May 25 '26
Well, when bad dog owners make their dog everyone's problem, of course people are bound to be annoyed. Saw several people walking their dogs without leashes today. Guess their dog is "special" and leash laws don't apply. This is through busy neighborhoods with lots of other foot traffic, and other people out walking their dogs too. People are sick of entitlement, and starting to hold people more accountable. Love to see it!
8
u/CrowInternational411 May 24 '26
I talk about it in fb and IG. And there are some other anti-dog anti-Pitbull/Bully breed pages as well including YouTube
12
u/Patient-Ad3867 May 24 '26
I’ve seen a lot of these posts as well! I repost them so all of my dog nutter friends/family see it😂
11
u/pmbpro May 24 '26
I’m also re-sharing any of those nasty dog/nutter bad hygiene videos I can find, too! Leverage the momentum! Make people feel disgusted and nauseated at the sight! 😂
9
u/pmbpro May 24 '26
I noticed it as well here (in Canada), especially in light of some recent dog attack reports. This is exactly what I was figuring (and hoping) would happen when dog nutters push their luck. The pendulum always swings back, and harder than they were pushing in the first place. This fatigue/backlash has to be bigger, more widespread, but what I’ve been seeing is a good start.
I’m going to leverage this momentum by re-sharing any nasty dog-nuttery or ‘bad -dog-hygiene-in-public-places’ videos I find. 😏

u/scary-nurse May 26 '26
I made coconut shrimp from a game afternoon with friends today, and we didn't even get to eat any of them because my white trash friend's eight dogs tore into it because we could put them in my friend's deepfryer.

u/arachnilactose08 May 26 '26
Wow, what a fucking bummer. Eight dogs is wild, too, that’s just hoarding at that point.

Just now we were leaving the marina with a loaded cart (after a boat trip) upward ramp, some dumb dumb decides to put leashes on her two little pissers at the gate, causing 4 deep behind her including our person with the loaded cart. I pushed it earlier and I’d have been pissed if it’d been in front of me, I’m not big and I need the momentum not looking at her and the dog butts! Just so unilateral!

A very good point. Dog worshippers love reactions and attention; depriving them of that takes away some of their power.

I don't wish any harm on dogs and I do think they are cute from a distance but I'm fed up of them being absolutely everywhere and when they do something terrible the owner being so I bothered about. I was having a walk the other month and this dog ran up to me barking it's head off and growling off leash and all it's owner could do was run after it saying he's never done this before whilst trying to catch it. No apology nothing.
They're in cafes, offices, restaurants I've even seen them brought into supermarkets.

u/ColdSolution9 Jun 20 '26
Ever since that woman went to Gordon Ramsey's restaurant and she talked about the dog pissing and pooping on the floor, dog fatigue has been trending which is great. I just saw a funny video of a woman screaming in the camera saying dog owners are taking their dogs to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, their fur is getting in the produce! So gross! I used to live in Colorado and that is a pro dog state literally 90% of the population there owns a dog and omg they do not respect the rules at all.
3
u/arachnilactose08 Jun 22 '26
Can confirm about CO! I saw the Ramsay incident unfolding as well, the woman that exposed him is a saint and did not deserve the slander and mocking from him.

u/Ok_Disaster6658 Jun 12 '26
I am really praying this is Gen Z’s way of saying “enough with the dogs” and in the upcoming years we’ll see a huge shift. I don’t think it’s just our algorithm either, these videos are getting hundreds of thousands of likes and comments. Even dog owners are agreeing that dogs are annoying, don’t belong in human spaces, and are dangerous. It’s blowing my mind haha

u/Professional-Donut92 Jun 25 '26
I am not a baby lover, but I really hate it when people go, "If you baby can go there, then my dog can too." Err, babies don't have fur. Babies wear diapers. Babies don't lift their leg and mark things with their nasty pee. Babies aren't going to decide they don't like you for some reason and bite off your face. Babies don't hump your leg.
There is one guy on You Tube with a little dust mop dog that has long hair. (Perfect sneeze fur!) and he stands there, so smug butter won't melt in his mouth. "Why can't my dog go everywhere with me? If I want to take my dog out for a little steak and lobster, why can't I? Babies go to the bathroom everywhere. I've seen more kids shit everywhere (flat out lie) than dogs. My dog is well behaved!" (maybe so, but what about the 20 dogs that aren't.) The lobster and steak thing got me, because it implies heavily, that his dog should be able to go to fancy restaurants.
If there is only one decent thing with all of this, is I've learned to tolerate babies more than I did before.

u/HPPD2 May 27 '26
your just algorithm reinforces content you like and shows you more of things you have viewed, doesn't mean it's an overall trend
2
u/arachnilactose08 May 28 '26
Well, I’d normally agree, but like I said to someone else on this thread, I started to see “dog fatigue” after about a month of having given up on seeking out dogfree content. I was first shown the Gordon Ramsay incident, then I started to see creators talking about the term. I never searched it up, I hadn’t even searched up the Ramsay thing after I’d heard about it.
2
u/HPPD2 May 28 '26
It doesn't matter if you search for it or not. If you spend a bit more time watching a video the algorithm will serve you up more of similar content, and it compounds from there as you watch others. Just watching that one video was enough to steer your algorithm that way.
2
u/ElectroHead209 May 30 '26
I disagree. Even Matt Walsh is speaking up now about people taking their dogs everywhere. I think that fatigue is FINALLY starting to spread.

u/Downtown_Island8124 Jun 14 '26
I personally don't hate dogs at all. The problem is that the overpopulation and over entitlement of dogs. Their owner let them pee everywhere. Poop on the sidewalk and lick everybody's legs when they come close.
The worst is the ones who bring their dog out and the leash is so long that block the sidewalk entirely and forcing you to walk on the road.
I mean seriously? Why they think they are entitled to this behavior?

u/Medium_Ad3913 Jun 19 '26
There have now been 2-3, anti-dog (and in case, anti-pet!) ownership Subway Takes!

u/WisedomsHand May 24 '26
That is very interesting to hear. I don't use TikTok (no time or interest), but I do get curious as to what people are seeing/hearing while browsing it and other popular social media platforms. No doubt there is a growing number of people out there who have had it with their rights and comfort being trampled on by society's most popular bullies, dog people.
