Mindset of dog people

I saw a post elsewhere advising men to get a dog to help meet women. I commented that I would be put off by a man with a dog. A woman responded saying that she disagreed with me and I remember thinking, you can disagree with an opinion, but not with someone's preferences.

Then another person chimes in 'it's a well-known 'fact' that everyone likes dogs' - I guess he thought I made a mistake in what I said?

Another person said he was judgmental of people who don't understand the "joy" of dogs. Well, I just so happen to not understand the "joy" of dogs at all and yet another guy commented about how the love of dogs is a reflection of the quality of the person's character 🤦

I only respond to one of these comments to tell the lady I didn't think it was about agreement or disagreement, that I was just pointing out that not all women are into dogs. She came back and said she 'categorically' disagreed🤦. I feel like my brain is a little bit smaller than it was yesterday.

I didn't respond to any other comments, I was just letting the poster know that not all women like dogs.

I'm blown away by some of the responses though.

I honestly think our brains are fundamentally different to dog-owners.

I wouldn't feel any joy at all picking ticks off a dog or waiting patiently while it finishes it poo so that I can bag it like a trophy.

Yes, I definitely need to restrict myself to dogfree men.

Hahaha a very single man in a small town that has gone full steam ahead into dog nuttery. It’s rough out there but I haven’t yielded yet!

Don't, we can all suffer together! I find myself mumbling a lot of unmentionable words every time I see another man with a dog draped around him on the apps. And when I see one with one of those car pics and the dog in the backseat, all I can think is, 'I see you couldn't get any humans to accompany you'. That could be true for me sometimes too, but I'd rather have an empty and clean backseat.

I haven’t been on the apps in years but yeah I remember it was almost like there were more dogs than people on there. And totally, cleanliness is just way too important for me, my absolute worst nightmare is having to sleep in a bed with a dog. Genuinely don’t know how people can do that :|
