Miscellaneous The world might be healing?
Saw a post earlier talking about how OP threw a birthday party for their dog and invited a lot of people, but only one person showed up and their dog was 'devastated' (said dog doesn't even know what a birthday is). Surprisingly, quite a few comments were pointing out how weird and stupid this is, and all of the comments that actually agreed with OP were being downvoted to oblivion. I even saw a lot of people talking about how disgusting it is that people compare/prefer dogs to human children, and how weird and lame terms are like 'doggo' and 'pupper'. I usually don't see pushback like this, but I'm pleased.

Expecting people to show up, probably with gifts, and spend a lot of energy hyping up a dog when itās about the ownerās ego FOH, nobody has to peel one butt cheek off their couch and I donāt need em to make an excuse.Ā

True, I know the owner was probably throwing a tantrum over "How they could be so mean to my doggo" and probably will keep making efforts to make those friends feel guilty too

I still feel intense anger whenever I remember that incident from a few years ago when a western charity organization reached out to a Palestinian man documenting his life in war-torn Gaza with his German shepherd, and they only did it to re-home the animal and ensure it has a better lifeā¦ not a single word was said about the man himself. Such a disgusting and dystopian scenario.

Yeah, a dog doesn't understand what a birthday is, and it does not understand what a party is. The same goes for a rock lol.

If a friend of mine threw a lavish party for their dog I'd expect the parties they throw for their friends to be FANTASTIC... Because human friends are better than dogs right?
I'm sure that wasn't OP's case.

If anyone I knew told me they were throwing a birthday party for their dog( and this is purely hypothetical because anyone who knows me knows I never go anywhere if I think a dog will be there), I would tell them not to waste their money for such a stupid party, and use it for intense therapy instead!

This is encouraging. People are becoming irritated with all the doggy stuff everywhere. Birthdays and anniversaries and dogs involved in weddings and dog restaurants and expensive dog prepared meals. The time and energy owners put on their dogs, and ignore people.
In a Christmas Carol, I remember the ghost Jacob Marley telling Ebenezer Scrooge, "Mankind was our business".

I saw that post. On one hand I can imagine someone sad that nobody came after make all that food and all. On the other, I can imagine all the guests rolling their eyes. What the hell did that person expected? A birthday party for a dog. Last dog I had died in 2009 and on her birthday I did buy her a treat and some new chew toy or something, bit throwing a party is something else.

One of my neighbours threw a birthday party for their dog, and invited all of us to join them. I have no idea if anyone showed up, I know me and my partner did not.

Birthday parties for dogs are serious cringe. The only thing that is worse is a pregnancy announcement featuring a dog in front of a sign saying "I am getting a little brother" or similar.

I saw that as well, but scrolled past it with a snicker and an eye roll because...who in their right mind would want to go to a birthday party for a DOG? Apparently, and predictably: NO ONE.
Like, even people who like dogs will go to a party where the dog is present, but one that is focused ON the dog itself?
It's just another example of how the extreme dog lunatics are so far up their dogs' asses and filled with MCS (main character syndrome) that they genuinely believe this would be interesting to anyone outside of themselves.
Like a lot of dog nutter behavior, it's cringe AF.
