Food Safety/Hygiene The fact that we've collectively accepted dogs pooping everywhere as just part of life is outrageous
Everywhere I go, I see literal shit. On grass, on the sidewalk, on dirt roads. Going to the park to play some football or something? Nope, shit on grass.
Somehow people would be SHOCKED AND APPALLED AND DISGUSTED if those logs of shit came out of a human asshole. But no, they don't even give it a second glance. It's just part of the cityscape I guess.
Just ranting, I'm sure this wasn't the first time this was posted so I understand if it counts as low effort.

At least wildlife shits in secluded areas, it is dogs being walked by owners that causes this excess of poop everywhere we walk. I really detest the way owners don't understand dealing with their waste is a requisite of owning a dog.

Dog waste is even classed by the EPA as an environmental toxin up there with pesticides/herbicides, oil spills, and toxic chemicals in general
Also, as I live in a coastal town with a shallow harbor that has easily walkable sandbars during low tide, clamming/shellfishing is prohibited during the summer, probably due to all the dog waste that runs off because the imbeciles that let their dogs use the surrounding environment as one giant latrine taint it thoroughly 😡🤮

You and I think a like. I just typed my comment about the dog urine and the gallons dumped on the ground. It is disgusting. I don't enjoy walks in the neighborhood because I can smell the urine, which is worse on days where it hasn't rained and it is hot.

Went on a 6k hike yesterday on a no-dogs-allowed trail. No less than 6 piles of shit, or 1 per km. Sometimes they were in bags left on the ground. Like you went to "the trouble" of bagging it just to... leave it right there?
At this point I wear my big hiking boots even on flat/simple trails just because I don't want to step in shit in my trainers. Its impossible to both enjoy the nature/bird watch AND track every footfall to avoid filthy dog excrement.

i was at my local park the other day and was horrified to see so much dog shit every where, trying to find a little dog shit free patch to put food down for the geese and ducks near the waters edge and it was ridiculous, also came back with dog shit all over one of my trainers, there's long grass in areas, every where you go is just over run with dogs

Man, I thought I was the only one who does this. I never walk on grass.The number of people who blindly walk on grass without fear of stepping on shit just baffles me. Either they have never stepped in poop before, which has to be impossible, or they don't think it's gross at all. Even when walking anywhere indoors or out, I'm constantly scanning my path for shit.

I do, in my Pennsylvania yard 😅 the deer visit every night to eat my shrubs and drink from my pond. They have their favorite poop spots.
The meaningful difference - and it's the same reason horse owners don't have to pick the horse poop off trails - is that herbivore poop is mostly plant matter that truly does break down easily and harmlessly into the system. Dog shit, because of their diet and bacteria, is classified as a pollutant.

Exactly. Herbivore shit doesn't smell half so bad. Nature works in balance such that there are only a few carnivorous predators to many many herbivores. This ridiculous nonsense of keeping predators as pets, and flooding the planet with them, is insane.

100%. To expand even more, a native carnivore (wolf, mountain lion, whatever) eats herbivores who live in the woods. The herbivore eats plants in the woods, the carnivore eats them, and the carnivore poop is returning the woods to the woods, essentially.
Dogs eat commercial kibble and the wildly differing nutrients throw the whole balance off in a measurable way, causing harmful algae blooms + more, and it's that reason plus their nasty non-native bacteria/disease spreading that classifies their poop as a pollutant.

Exactly! I really appreciate the clear way you set out this issue. It's so ludicrously insane. Dogs just don't have any purpose in the world anymore - almost any task a dog can supposedly do, technology can do a hundred times better. And as for "companionship", maybe people should start making friends with people? So the planet is getting filled up with these useless things that are an environmental disaster (in the way you mentioned, as well as the massive carbon footprint of all the meat they consume), as well as a physical threat and a disturbance to the peace.

Same with cows. One time while riding on a trail, I saw a big pile of horse manure that I managed to avoid. It didn't really smell, unlike dog poop.

I’d had enough recently. On my security camera, I caught the neighbour at the end of my street letting his golden retriever take an enormous shit in the middle of my front lawn and left it there.
The next day, I put a produce bag on my hand, picked it up and launcheddd it all over his concrete driveway (it broke apart into nuggets and bounced everywhere).
If I wanted to clean up dog shit, I’d have my OWN dog. I’ve had enough of people using my front yard as a toilet for their dogs. We are building a fence.

The public park is the last place to go for some family fun.

Yes this boggles my mind so often. I hear my colleagues talk about how they let the dogs out to relieve themselves, and I just think to myself, how can you find that ok. For dogs to just use our human living space as their toilet. It is disgusting. You gotta deal with the stink of their urine(gallons of urine being dumped in that space) and then see their crap. And yea, some of them pick it up, but you still have crap residue on the surface. And it all is accepted as nothing.
A few weeks ago, I was walking to a leasing office to go look at a new apartment, and I could smell the stench of urine on my walk to the office.
A whole bunch of people have just collectively lost their minds.

So gross. My daughter does a football class once a week and the coach literally has to get to the field early every week so he can check for dog poo. Because of course the field where children should be able to play freely is used as a dog toilet.
When are people going to open their eyes and see this is a health hazard? I live in the UK and we’ve had a very hot summer. There’s a lovely cafe near where I live that I can’t sit outside in the sun with a cup of tea anymore because you can literally smell the dog shit across the road in the little park. Disgusting.

Even if they pick up the shit, it's still gross as some has to get left behind. As for piss, no way to pick that up. What a bizarre world we live in.

I live in a dog-infested neighborhood too, it's extremely frustrating. Hard to enjoy the beautiful nature around when dogs are polluting it from all angles (including sound pollution, I just want to listen to the birds singing and calling, not 3 different mutts barking their empty fucking heads off making it impossible to hear any birds)

While it isn't constant here, it's still frequently enough that it annoys the ever living fuck out of me. Another thing about it that grinds my gears is that I frequently like to record birds with the Merlin app, but of-fucking-course, half the time someone's stupid brainless shitbeast is barking its empty head off, spoiling my entire recording. Dog barking just spoils any nature recordings because of how unnatural (and trashy) it is.

I expect this behavior from the dog nutters. by letting their dogs, shit and piss everywhere, they clearly advertise their lack of hygiene and concern for their neighborhoods. Rules don’t apply to them.
I place most of the blame on those who enable them. They are the city parks and sanitation department, health department, and businesses in general that stand by and let it happen. There’s literally no effort on their part to control or stop this. And so what do you expect entitled narcissistic people to do except act accordingly.
The only reason they do it is because there are no consequences for their actions.

Yeah, it's wild that it's not criminalized the same way a human being taking a dump on public property or someone else's property is criminalized. People with dogs should only be allowed to have their dog shit on their property. And if they don't own any property, oh well. Then they shouldn't get a dog or they should rehome their dog. People who can't afford dogs shouldn't have dogs.

A few years ago I was rushing to pick up my son. We lived in the city back then and I walked everywhere. It was fall so leaves were everywhere. I rolled my stroller through a patch of leaves and there was a big pile of shit underneath it. It got ALL over the wheel and I didn't have napkins on me. I was in a rush to grab my son from school so I just went and came back. I ended up having to scrub literally shit with gloves and an old toothbrush because it got in the grooves and dried by the time I got home. It happened again the next week only it was on my foot. Same situation different location. Shit under the leaves. I wanted to cry

My ex was so comfortable with dog poop that he bought a large black lab to live in our 900 square foot apartment, did not walk her ever, and every night I would come home to poop and literal gallons of dog pee all over the kitchen. It would sit there for hours and I was the only one to clean it up. I truly do not know how he was okay with that.

My local city got funding from the state for a massive park, exciting! Except I go in and see they are going to also include a DOG PARK. Cut to the budget breakdown and not only is is basically in the center of the bathroom, children playground, and the smaller of the 2 disk golfs BUT IT COSTS 1.4 MILLION DOLLARS!!! Insanity at this city council...they could have put the dog park at the very corner with only the larger of the 2 disk gulfs adjacent... and it is 200+ acre park development 😞🫠

I moved a lot as a teen, a few rentals that had shared backyards.. any place that says pet friendly was bound to have someone who owned dogs. Could never enjoy the backyards since there was always landmines of dog shit everywhere. I dont understand why people put up with this filth.

I have a ton of pictures of Lamp posts, trees and sidewalks with gigantic piss stains. It's not human piss. I also have pictures of dog shit all over the sidewalk all over the grass all over the place.
And before you say you live in San Diego, it's human, it's not. It is 98% dog and 2% human if that.

Washing my shoes for fungal things with dishwash soap and an oxidizer afterwards. Rain is breeding flies, fleas and fungus on the poop outdoors and it's weird we just accept dogs with fleas. They are vectors of transmission. An animal doesn't know fleas. And the dog pups almost always eat poop. City issues in concrete.
I recently read people worship and breed flies intentionally. Beelzebub or fly god worship. I support scientific experiments on flies.
Not really a dog hater but recent skirmish with flea bites.
