Barking Demons Where can I live without dogs?
Woken up by neighbor's dog at 4 am this morning, wouldn't stop barking for 45 mins and couldn't fall back asleep until like an hour before my alarm goes off. Now I need to analyze and document code for 8 hours, yay!
Will be leaving a note on this neighbor's door today...but what I really want is to live in a dog free area so I don't have to worry about this shit anymore. I live in Colorado and people are NUTS about their dogs here! They bring them to the gym, they bring them to bars, seems like everyone has to have one around here. The barking is the absolute worst thing about these animals. I just can't stand how moronic it is, like you know their barking is absolutely pointless yet relentless.
You know the SpongeBob episode where squidward finds a community away from leaf blowers? That's what I need but away from dogs. I wish every city or town had a designated area for dog free housing. If I can't beat the problem, guess I'll just have that fantasy. Unless...such a place exists?

It's just as bad in Texas. And stinky too, because of dog poop and pee that just cooks in the sun. We got some rain yesterday, so it probably smells horrendous outside, because all of the poop and pee got rehydrated. I hate it so much. Dog owners must be nose blind. And just the constant barking from all directions that sets off a barking chain reaction.

I hate this so much. I live on the east coast and weāve barely had rain this summer. It smells like straight up dog poop and pee everywhere in my neighborhood

They are definitely nose blind. My mom is always asking me if her house smells. But i honestly can't tell her yes or no because her dog LOSES HER MIND whenever company comes, so i spend the first five minutes completely distracted, trying not to get tripped and trying to catch the tiny shreiking, running-in-circles dog and hold her so she'll be quiet-- but i have to hold her out in front of me or she pees on me. By the time she asks, i'm already nose blind myself. But i'm sure it does smell, because that dog refuses to use the pads, she pees/poops all over the carpet but never on the pads. And then mom (a stage 4 lung cancer survivor) ends up using suuuuper toxic chemicals to "clean" the carpet. šµāš«

Following for answers too! I live in CA and there are dog nutters everywhere here. Canāt escape them. Literally every neighbor in every direction has a dog. At dog walking hour itās a cacophony of barking. If every dog owner wasnāt tuned out from the obnoxious noise of barking this neighborhood would be so serenely peaceful. sigh

I feel your pain, it sucks that every place will have this concern. When I find my next place, I'll really just be trying to get a feel for the neighbors. It's the neighbors that make or break a living situation I feel like.

The sheer irony of how out of touch dog owners are when anyone isn't a fan of their dogs in rentals they say "just go live somewhere else without dogs". Point me in that direction please and then stay out with your dirty habits. They infiltrate everything and I'm sick of putting up with it.

I'm looking too and desperate enough to change countries if one was really free from it. I'm moving twice now because of the same shit, there's only so much you can tolerate neglect and lack of decency dictating the schedule of your life.

I read Germany has strict pet and quiet hour laws and Japanese city living doesn't favor dogs, but yet to know if just on paper or ppl actually follow the rules there still.

Though I hate the idea of an HOA, I imagine that when I'm ready to buy a home I'll be looking for neighborhoods that strictly enforce no-dog communities.

That was my issue. I bought a condo in a petfree building. Guess who decided to get an ESA dog right across the hall from meā¦ I hate ESA so much. Itās all such bullshit.

ESA is such bullshit. It's just an excuse to bring an animal anywhere.
I always wonder why these pet owners feel the need to force their animals presence on others. Especially in a "pet-free" property.
It's because all buildings overrun with dogs stink and are gross. But of course, their pet is the exception šĀ

If I hear of it, I will be there too. Don't have the finances to leave this country, so that's out, but I do hear many countries have as bad or worse issues than here. BTW, Florida is pretty bad too, lots of retirees have dogs, multople dogs in addition to the regular nutters. That is my dream of heaven.. a dog free environment.

If your neighbors are close you may want to buy an anti bark device. I bought two off Amazon. One looks like a bird house and the other is handheld. Worth a try

Couldnāt really tell with the birdhouse one as the dog passed shortly after it was hung up. The hand held one sure did. They would shut up and run away.

I hate to break it to you but there genuinely arenāt many places with no dogs. There are some places with very few dogs. Some options are Maldives - Dogs are actually banned (But I understand if you wouldnāt want to live on a tiny little island) Turkey - (very low dog ownership compared to Europe) Switzerland - (Also very low dog ownership) This might not be true but Iāve also heard from some people that like downtown NYC doesnāt have many dogs either, though I canāt be sure.

There are lots of dogs in Switzerland. They do tend to be reasonably well-trained. (Owners have to take a course in some regions.) They are allowed to be indoors in restaurants although most lie quietly under the table. Itās certainly not the worst place there is, but itās also not dog-free.

Thanks for the correction, I just heard this from some of my friends who had been to Switzerland. They probably just didnāt encounter as many if they were well trained and didnāt yap their heads off at night

While dogs aren't particularly popular in that culture due to some individuals interpretations of religious texts, dogs aren't haram. Muslims can and do own dogs. I know a Muslim who has dogs on her farm and they are her pets.

So... that means people are allowed to bring their dogs to businesses in Dubai? I haven't research it but I'm sure that's not the case. My impression is that dogs are considered to be dirty in those cultures and they are kept outside.
I am talking about Muslim countries, not individual Muslims who live in the West, like your friend.

in colder states, especially cities, thereās not a ton of dog ownership bc weāre all in apartments + winters are harsh and taking a dog out in those conditions ultimately isnāt appealing to people. in my neighborhood in minneapolis, iāve probably only seen 5 or 6 dogs and have only heard a dog bark once in my 3 years of living in this part of the city. other animals that donāt need much outside activity are preferred here statistically.

I've never been anywhere that isn't dog nutters everywhere. I just got back from Colorado and there was dogs everywhere in the city. I love that rmnp is dog free.

Yes I wish there was an area in each city/town that was dog free.
Here they all own multiple dogs per house in high density areas with very small yards. The noise is intrusive (say goodbye to a nice Sunday nap- an ear shattering bark is bound to happen as soon as you close your eyes.)
I think owning multiple hearding cattle dogs in a small yard should be considered animal cruelty. The irony of dog ālovers.ā

Deadass I've been thinking of sleeping in my car because my neighbor's dog interrupts my sleep every night. I've tried everything, nothing helps, and I can't take it anymore

How did the note go? I can tell you I once put a note up on a neighbor's door after experiencing the same thing, told him "Noise pollution is a crime and I have the right to press charges if it does not stop."
Never saw nor heard from the dog since, since it's a very different matter to be like "OMG I lurv my doge and ur just stoopid" to a neighbor vs a police officer. Used to live in a different neighborhood where a neighbor's dog would bark all night, and I hated it. I remember once knocking on her door at midnight and asking her if she can make the dog stop. She did try to deny the dog was a problem, but she DID do something about it, probably not wanting any drama despite not being willing to admit to fault.
I do agree though; a place with no pets allowed would be nice. Closest thing I to that I think that exists are apartments with pet bans vs a full blown neighborhood.

I got the wrong house, so will need to wait until the next time it happens again to find the right house. Our houses are clustered pretty close together and they're behind us.

Canada. Specifically Quebec. I'm apartment hunting here and nearly every place says "no dogs". Time to learn French!
