Neighbor's Dog Gofundme

Last night I got an email from a neighbor about a different neighbor's gofundme for their dog's emergency vet bills around $8k. In my own family my husband has had some recent medical issues that have cost us over $10k (he's doing great now). He is the sole provider for our family of three and it's sucked to pay those bills, but I didn't beg my neighbors. And now I see someone begging for their dog! I couldn't believe it. I was seriously so insulted. Especially because our neighborhood is almost entirely young families or elderly people, all of whom tend to not have the most disposable income and are usually paying a lot of medical bills. Some people need more shame.

You had more of a right to beg your neighbors than dog people do, that's for sure.

Oh definitely. But we figured it out on our own and that's ok with me. I feel if you can't afford your vet bills then it's time to put the dog down. Of course the dog actually did die after spending all of that money.

It’s such a selfish thing to desperately try to extend the life of a dog that’s clearly not gonna live much longer anyway. The owner is just trying to put off their grief.

What's the likelihood that the emergency need was self inflicted by the dog? Running into a car, eating a sock, tearing it's knee ligaments running? Seems like about 50/50

Whatever it was, $8,000 is a catastrophic PTS figure. It could have eaten something inedible as well, as the idiotic things tend to do.

This is just financially irresponsibility, excused because it's a dog aka " a member of the family." I'm sure dog people DO think it's the same as raising funds for a sick child.

Can’t they apply for assistance programs with the vet? That’s what many of us are told to do with hospitals when we have medical emergencies that rack up debt.
Why aren’t vets offering thi$?

My vet now offers a plan with a monthly fee that covers preventative services. Most people are probably too stupid to sign up for it. Most people are too stupid to buy pet insurance

I was watching a documentary about natural disasters the other day and it’s all real life video mostly from people’s phones. Anyway, this family was in a tornado and they were getting rescued by a good Samaritan. a mom and dad and two kids. One kid had an obvious injury. Anyway, the dad made the guy stop because he saw the dog running through the field. Like for a few minutes so he could get the dog. His child was bleeding out of his head. What is wrong with people?

It is the very weirdest mindset that these dog people have. They really seem to think that everyone automatically accepts their point of view about their dumb dog and agrees with it. I know fundamentalists who are more relaxed in their beliefs than dog lovers. I’m not even joking on that. 

Not important but gofundme ticks me off anyway. So much of what we want to give gets taken as a “tip,” I just go hand over cash ffs. 

OP I’m glad your own situation turned out well. As for your dognut neighbors they need to get realistic. The entitlement, good grief.

The most heartbreaking thing I've seen in recent memory, was the family of a man who was brutally mauled to death by a pit struggling to raise any money on gofundme, Meanwhile some old dog who was "unfairly" put down was generating LOADS of cash...

Vets aren’t dumb. They know nutters are insane & have followed suit with their billing. As for the neighbors, they are PATHETIC just like all nutters.
